An Alternate History of the WWF.
Just wanted to put a little plug here for a very entertaining project I've been following for over 2 years now.
It's a Counterfactual WWF, where the author re-books WWF history under the premise that Vince McMahon grew up as a huge fan of workrate rather
than larger-than-life gimmicks. It's called "What if Steamboat beat Hogan?", and you can find his description of it
here.
Definitely worth a read if you've got a couple of hours to kill some day, you'll find yourself hooked by the time you get to Wrestlemania
II!

This was excellent JMD. Thanks for sharing. I spent many hours since you've posted this reading that blog. It was fantastic. I also made

I'm only a couple of entries into that, but its crazy awesome (if not highly unrealistic). I second the thanks for sharing and I'd
strongly encourage everyone with a tolerance for fantasy booking to check that out from the beginning.
I mean, Steamboat and Dynamite Kid both have world championships by 1986! Its wrestling geek nirvana.

This whole thing is highly entertaining, but here's my first question. Even as much of a big fan I am of his, how do you justify Cactus Jack
as one of the most important wrestlers in the history of the company? In this world Bret Hart is the top guy ever (living the gimmick), Owen, Hennig,
Savage, & Shawn are right there behind Bret in WWF, and Benoit has 3 NWA titles to Flair's 5 with Benoit pretty much taking the top NWA spot
with the first world title in 1996. In that super workrate geek universe, how does Cactus get over as THE top guy? I like him, too, but he just
doesn't fit the bill. I'm willing to accept Austin right there at the top since he really could go (I think he could work, but just
brawled the same match since that was his character. If anything, in the counterfactual, Austin would come in as the Ringmaster and the crowd would
love it.)
If you want to argue it's because Mick could talk, then why not have World champ The Rock? And poor, poor HHH.
More than anything, I think this whole exercise proves once again how truly awful the storytelling is in wrestling. Sure, it's easier to tell
stories knowing whose going to be great 5 (or 10 or 15) years in the future and that certainly allows for more foreshadowing and build up, but
can't we just have a little continuity?

I actually posed the same question to him. I don't get why Austin & Foley are treated so well and Triple H & Rock were not. To me Triple H and
Rock are at least on par with Austin & Foley and many times better. I think Chris Jericho also got shortchanged a bit but with Angle and Benoit
getting pushes somebody had to play in the midcard.

M-Kid, I think over the next year Jericho will become more prominent. Remember, the counter-factual universe is a year behind.
I think he was trying to prove a point with HHH and Rock, although to be honest, I only kinda disagree with Rock, because honestly HHH is a couple of
breaks away from being Bob Holly. I don't get the Austin push either; but Foley's character came right in from ECW in this universe and
just did crazy ECW shit, and became a "hardcore legend" which is kind of what he was anyway. The point there is that he thinks Foley would have
done that ANYWAY, with or without help. I can't really disagree.
