Elder Scrolls Online

Since Zenimax just sent out another round of Beta Keys (and somebody I know got one!) I figured I'd let you know that they announced that curse.com would be handing out 500,000 additional keys too. This weekends beta runs from Friday at noon eastern to Monday at noon eastern.

This game will ruin my life once it comes out. Figured I'd bring some of you along with me!

I cannot bother to ruin my life with an Elder Scrolls game for a very long time...not after Skyrim took 133 hours of it

I got up to 224 hours in Skyrim and the last time I sat down to play it I forgot what I was actually supposed to be doing in the game.

Yeah, I think I'm up to something like 175 hours in Skyrim... and that isn't even counting the times I restarted a save after fucking something up. I still haven't even finished it.

That's one of the main reasons I've never played an MMORPG. I was always afraid of getting sucked into it like one of those weirdos, who lets it become their whole life.

And yeah, I know that 175 hours sounds like a lot, but that's spread out over two years. I'd rented Diablo III back in September, and having never played a Diablo game before, I was looking up tips on what character was best for a new player... things like that. I was pretty shocked to see comments from veteran players, saying that they were looking forward to getting the 360 version, after having logged in 1,000+ hours (!!!) into the PC version. After playing it for a little bit, I was even more stunned that anyone could play that game that fucking much.

Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.

I've played DC Universe, Star Wars Old Republic, FFXIV, and WoW over the past few years, and the only one that has kept me coming back is WoW. MMO's can be fun, but the people usually kill it, either by being douchey in general or, the big one, playing a few months before bitching about having to pay for a subscription. And when games do get rid of them, they complain about micro-transactions. The MMO player seems to live in a fantasy world where the $50 they pay for the game initially should be more than enough to pay for a lifetime of server upkeep and content development.

I'll pick this up for whatever new gen system I get, and will likely get suckered into the premium version, but I expect to only be kept in for a month before the population dies off and/or gets too douchey. My only hope is that Bethesda doesn't just focus on this and puts out Fallout 4...soon.

And they just shot themselves in the foot, and hit an artery in the process

quote:

Bethesda has confirmed The Elder Scrolls Online has been delayed on PS4 and Xbox One by about six months.

A blog post has been released confirming the delay we reported earlier, and offered some insight into the issues.

It reads: "We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms. Integrating our systems with each console manufacturers networkswhich are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each otherhas been a challenging process. It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isnt going to be possible. Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that well need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve."

However, it's not all bad news. Bethesda has announced that anyone playing the PC version of ESO before the end of June will be able to transfer their characters to the PS4 or Xbox One version of the title once it's available, and the console version of the title will be available at a reduced price of $20 / 14.99 / 12.99 / AU$20 for anyone who meets the eligibility requirements.

That's nice and all that they're offering the discounted rate to anyone who wants to play before the console version comes out and has a PC capable of playing it, but the big reason people were excited about this was that it was a console MMORPG that also came out at a time nothing else was really out (other than Watch Dogs and Wolfenstein a month earlier, both of which have flop potential), not to mention the fact both consoles lack games right now. But now, it's pushed back to a time when gamers will have their picks of Arkham, all those EA games that will be making their first proper appearance on next-gen consoles (because it always takes EA a game to get it right), UFC, WWE 2K15 (presumably), probably another Assassin's Creed game, another Call of Duty game, and Dragon Age (meaning it won't even be the first RPG to hit the next-gen's, another thing a June release had going for it).

Basically, anyone who picks the console version up first is joining a world that will already be occupied by a lot of good players, which, combined with the average scores this game has been getting, tells me it'll be a purchase most people regret.

Back to MMO obscurity with them, and hopefully Fallout 4 or Elder Scrolls 6 is coming fast.

Did any of you guys ever pick up ESO? I've been playing it almost daily for years now. It's video game crack. Hit me up on XBox if you did. Gamertag is THEDKEXPERIENCE.
