The age of every WrestleMania main-eventer ever
So with the guarantee that we'll either see 46 year-old Triple H or possibly (according to recent gossip site chatter) 51 year-old Undertaker in
the main event of this year's WrestleMania, it got me curious about how old the main-eventers were each year at WrestleMania. Without further
ado:
I: Hulk Hogan (31) and Mr. T (32) vs Roddy Piper (30) and Paul Orndorff (35)
II: Hulk Hogan (32) vs King Kong Bundy (28)
III: Hulk Hogan (33) vs Andre the Giant (40)
IV: Randy Savage (35) vs Ted Dibiase (34)
V: Randy Savage (36) vs Hulk Hogan (35)
VI: Hulk Hogan (36) vs The Ultimate Warrior (30)
VII: Sgt. Slaughter (43) vs Hulk Hogan (37)
VIII: Hulk Hogan (38) vs Sid Justice (31)
IX: Bret Hart (35) vs Yokozuna (26)
X: Yokozuna (27) vs Bret Hart (36)
XI: Lawrence Taylor (36) vs Bam Bam Bigelow (33)
XII: Bret Hart (38) vs Shawn Michaels (30)
13: Sycho Sid (36) vs The Undertaker (31)
XIV: Shawn Michaels (32) vs Steve Austin (33)
XV: The Rock (26) vs Steve Austin (34)
2000: Triple H (30) vs The Rock (27) vs Mick Foley (34) vs The Big Show (28)
X-7: The Rock (28) vs Steve Austin (36)
X-8: Chris Jericho (31) vs Triple H (32)
XIX: Kurt Angle (34) vs Brock Lesnar (25)
XX: Triple H (34) vs Shawn Michaels (38) vs Chris Benoit (36)
21: Triple H (35) vs Batista (36)
22: John Cena (28) vs Triple H (36)
23: John Cena (29) vs Shawn Michaels (41)
XXIV: Edge (34) vs The Undertaker (43)
XXV: Triple H (39) vs Randy Orton (29)
XXVI: The Undertaker (45) vs Shawn Michaels (44)
XXVII:The Miz (30) vs John Cena (34)
XXVIII: The Rock (39) vs John Cena (35)
XXIX: The Rock (40) vs John Cena (36)
XXX: Randy Orton (34) vs Batista (45) vs Daniel Bryan (32)
XXXI: Brock Lesnar (37) vs Roman Reigns (29)
XXXII: Triple H (46) vs Roman Reigns (30)
Some random thoughts:
-Seeing some of these guy's ages during the years they were in the WrestleMania main event is kind of eye-opening. For instance, I tend to think
of moments like Randy Savage winning the belt at IV or Bret Hart being the champion at IX as kind of "changing of the guard" moments during the
Hogan era, but both guys were already 35 years old at the time; not exactly young up and comers. And I can't believe Hogan was only 31 at the
first WrestleMania.
-It's also kind of interesting that guys I always think of as being contemporaries are actually kind of far apart in age (such as there being a
nine year difference between Angle and Lesnar and an eight year difference between Bret and Shawn).
-The Undertaker and Batista currently are tied for the record of being the oldest guy to main-event a WrestleMania, at age 45. And speaking of
Batista, it's kind of mind-boggling to think that he main-evented his very first WrestleMania at age 36. That means that if I enroll in
wrestling school, get signed by the WWE, and become hugely popular within the next year, I still have a shot at main-eventing WrestleMania!
-Out of 31 WrestleMania main events, kind of surprising that only 11 of them feature a wrestler in their 20's. That makes the fact that the Rock
had already main-evented WrestleMania three times by the time he was 28 even more impressive (and makes me feel like I haven't done anything
with my life).
-Taker/Shawn from XXVI currently holds the record for oldest combined age in a WrestleMania main event, but Taker/Shane will top that by eight years
if it's the main event on Sunday (and will probably be a record that stands forever, as I doubt we'll ever see a 51 year-old guy against a
46 year-old guy ever again in the main event of WrestleMania).
-WrestleMania 13 took place one day before the Undertaker's 32nd birthday. And since Taker was born on March 24th, every year WrestleMania
occurs within about a week of his birthday.
EDIT: To add Triple H/Reigns from this year.

Never realized Steve Austin was actually a year older than Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 14...always thought of Austin as the young guy at that time.

Since the main event was Triple H (46) vs Roman Reigns (30), that means Triple H is the oldest person to have main evented a WrestleMania.

It is funny how seeing the wrestlers' ages during each WrestleMania kind of changes the perspective of things. I always think of WrestleMania
XIV as being a "passing of the torch" moment between Michaels and Austin, but just never realized that Michaels was passing the torch to a guy who
was a year older than him.

Yeah, Triple H now holds the record and I kind of doubt we'll ever see anyone older than 46 main-event a WrestleMania, unless Taker headlines
whichever WrestleMania he decides to retire at (which is certainly a strong possibility). And I went ahead and edited to my original post to include
Triple H/Reigns from this year.

The whole age thing really set in for me when Ryder won the IC title.... there was that kind of "yay fresh face up and comer finally get's his
chance to shine" moment, immediately followed by actually Ryder is probably up there in age as the whole Embrace the Hate nonsense was what... 4 year
ago?
Dude is only 30, but has been in the WWE for almost a decade.

The main thing I got out of this was...KING KONG BUNDY WAS ONLY 28?!?!?

Yeah, it is pretty surprising how young Bundy was during that era. Per Wikipedia, he was born on November 7th, 1957 and WrestleMania 2 was on April
7th, 1986.
