The Career Deadpool 2009
Here's the rules:
WWE has always been known for getting release happy throughout the year. Some of the firings are pretty predictable, occasionally they are not. This
will work much like the Dead Pool in PU; you pick 15 wrestlers that you think WWE or TNA will release sometime during calender year 2009. For each
wrestler you get right, you'll score points. The person with the most points on 12/31/09 wins.
Scoring will be as follows: fired in January nets you 12 points, February 11, March 10, and so on, with November firings earning you 2 points and a
December future endeavoring earns you one single solitary point.
The deadline to get your picks in will be 5 p.m. EST January 2nd (I'm pretty confident nobody will be getting fired on New Year's Day). So
get your picks sent to be by U2U before then and I'll post everyone's picks that evening.
Good luck!

Awesome idea. I'll be playing for sure.
Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.

Contracts that expire / aren't picked up don't count, right?
Nor does shipping someone off to the minors a la what happened with Spirit Squad?
This is outright release from a contract?

Yeah, I'm thinking that outright releases are what we're going to count. Now if they happen to release somebody like Kevin Thorn
who's been shuffled around in developmental hell for over a year, I see no reason for that not to count.

Neat idea. I plan on going up and down WWE's rosters and picking all the guys I've never heard of.

Do you get double points if both companies release the same wrestler within the year?

Double points, no. But in the unlikely event that both companies release one performer in the same year, I see no reason why you shouldn't earn
the appropriate amount of points for both releases. So if TNA were to release, say, Nathan Jones in February, then WWE signed him and released him in
October, you would theoretically get 11 points for the TNA release and an additional 3 for the WWE release.

So to be clear.
Retirements don't count, right? Do voluntary departures from companies count? Christian from TNA, for example? RVD from WWE?
I know you addressed Tex's question about guys not renewed but is there a way to really manage that? As I understand it a great deal of
TNA's firings aren't firings at all. They're just contracts that aren't renewed or opt out clauses in the contract.
Contracts that roll over and WWE takes a pass. Is there a clear enough way to determine that or are we going to be digging through dirt sheets to
figure out if Lena Yada got fired, released, or simply not re-signed? And honestly I'm not sure if TNA EVER fires someone outright. Almost
every talent departure I can remember from TNA was either a contract running out and TNA not renewing it, the wrestler not renewing it, or a
per-appearance/short term deal that didn't need to be broken to part ways.

I gotta ask this cuz Chris says "wrestlers".
There are certain divas who have never set foot in the ring to my knowledge. But they are on the roster.
And there are refs. I forget the guys name but whatshisface who WWE endeavored last year and announced it at same time and in same way as they did
other wrestlers.
The Diva one I would say yes, simply because they are on roster and show up as such.
Refs not so much, since they do not appear on .com roster pages.
We good on this one? And sorry for lots of questions. Having never done this before (but looking forward to it and 100% in), just wanna make sure my
entries are eligible!
Thanks Chris for doing this.

I think for the sake of the game, retirements or a performer "quitting" his or her company or not signing a contract extension shouldn't
count. I know that there are some situations out there like with Mick Foley or Karen Angle where it becomes very "he said- she said" and nobody is
clear on what really happened, and unfortunately, with this being the first time we've done this, we'll probably have to play it by ear.
Worst case scenario, if there's a situation where everyone feels differently about whether it should count, I feel fairly confident that if we
asked ModSquad nicely, he'd probably be kind enough to give us a final ruling.
But as a general rule, I think 95%+ of releases tend to be confirmed by wwe.com being nice enough to leave big messages on the front page. TNA really
hasn't outright released anyone that I can think of, so its a bit of a gamble, but with the economy being the nightmare that it is and
TNA's roster getting sort of bloated, this is as good a year as any to put some eggs in the release basket.
In conclusion: good questions, and we'll learn as we go.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. I think any on-air talent is fair game, so if you have a strong hunch that Tiffany from ECW or Tony Atlas or
Lillian Garcia are going to be on the shitty end of budget cuts, feel free to pick them. I also think if you keep up with who's in
developmental, under contract, and you think there are certain guys who are ripe for release, your wisdom should be rewarded. WWE often seems to
release from FCW as often as the main roster anyway.
On the other hand, refs, creative team members, and road agents? I'm not really in favor of them being part of this. If someone can make a
really strong argument against that I'll reconsider, but I think we're better off keeping this among wrestlers, divas, and other on-air
talent (don't you wish Mike Adamle would have lasted a few more months?)

Whew, I dunno, man. I mean, do you think that he's going to show some legit shortcomings in the ring that will lead to his termination? Or are
you just assuming he's going to get fired because he's black? Because, you know, I don't want this to turn into a race thing,
man.
