OOfficial Ratings/Discussion Thread for: RAW (November 30, 2009)
OO Nation: All discussion pertaining to RAW (airing November 30, 2009) should be done in this thread. It will remain pinned at the top of the
Current Events section for the remainder of the week. In discussing the program, we'd love it if you shared your numerical rating for
the show (from a low of 0.0 to a high of 5.0, in any increment of one-tenth of a point). For full details on the ratings scale and how to join in on
this informal "Battle of the Brands," please be sure to check out the OOfficial
Guidelines for TV Ratings/Discussion Threads.
Tonight on RAW: Al Snow's long-standing theorem that "Everything is funnier with midgets" will be put to the test on a very special
Midget Edition of RAW... "Mini Me" Verne Troyer is the guest host, and the night's recurring pre-tape segment will focus on the "Trial of
DX" in a courtroom containing nothing but midgets; it has even been said that WWE exhausted Baltimore's supply of midgets, and had to bus some
in from DC or Philly or NYC or something to meet their needs for the night... I do not expect this to go well, the USUAL truth of Al's statement
aside: Mini Me, a Damned Leprechaun, and So Many Midgets They Had to Be Bussed In just sounds like a recipe for failure to me.... other than that,
nothing is known/announced for sure about tonight's show... the big project should probably be convincing us that Sheamus vs. Cena is a PPV main
event, which will take some doing... DX vs. JeriShow is the #2 story on the depth chart, but DX will be playing with midgets... that'll leave a
big spot for Kofi/Orton to once again step up and steal the headlines by doing something newsworthy and cool... re-inserting Maryse into the top spot
as Melina's challenger and figuring out what to do with Miz and the US Title (ummm, does anybody but me remember that Miz and Maryse
kinda/sort/almost had a thing going, and it was predicated on Miz doing impressive things, which he now has?) would be the other two things I can
think of that oughta happen tonight.....
The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Let your voice be heard and your thoughts on Brand Supremacy be known. Don't wait till after 11pm to post,
either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

Meanwhile, the New England Patriots will be playing the undefeated New Orleans Saints tonight in a game that has all the potential in the world to be
an instant classic. I'm a few weeks behind on Heroes but I'm sure Sylar is up to something infinitely more watchable and interesting than
midgets being pissed off at DX. Hey, we're five seasons in, now: Is Ted Mosby ever going to tell those poor fucking kids how he met their
mother? And will Barney and Robin end up back together?
Whatever. I'll be DVRing Raw and watching the game so I can fast-forward through anything featuring anyone under four feet tall. And I have a
feeling that after the delicious slice of prime rib that was last week's Raw the turd burger they're going to serve up tonight is going to
taste that much worse.

Not enough midgets to go around? Isn't that one of the official signs of the Apocalypse?
Seriously, this sounds like one to avoid at all costs. From the looks of it I doubt that even Attitude Era DX, Stone Cold, or The Rock could salvage
it. Speaking just for myself I'd probably have to conch back about four grams of shrooms just to make it tolerable.
Vern has serious issues that I'd like to stay far away from anyway:

Football game should be good.
Heroes is a fucking train wreck of suck.
2 and a Half Men is the only thing half way watchable on CBS because of the large breasted women they often have on there. Unless you are a fan of
canned laughter than you have 4 hours of orgasms ahead for you.
RAW is going to be pure genius. Two midgets on one show? That is money. Throw in Santino and no matter what matches happen you have the greatest Raw
ever. What if Dink showed up? How can you not watch live?

Call me insane, but I'm kind of looking forward to the "Trial of DX" segments (though not nearly as much as Pats/Saints). If anyone could make
it funny/watchable, it's Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

Saints are probably going to lose because their coach is a pussy. Best offense in the league, knows he's in a shootout and he kicks a field goal
on 4th and 1.
Oh wait, interception. Maybe there's still hope for the Pats to lose.

Wow, Verne is shorter than I remembered. He makes Hornswaggle look like a giant (and made Big Show look like something that cannot be defined). The
interwebs say Verne's 2'8", but I swear he's even smaller. I also saw he was a stunt double for a 9 month old, in 1994, when he
was 25.
I think RAW was OK tonight. I got distracted because I just couldn't get over Verne's height. Or his creepy eyes. Or his poor speaking
ability. I need to stop watching shows with little people. They creep me out.
I think Swagger was absent again this week. Perhaps the rumors about him are true. On the flip side, Carlito made an appearance for the first time
in forever, where he prompty got his ass kicked by Cena. Glad you were able to make it this week Carlito!
Eh, maybe RAW was not so good after all. Microplayed Lucky

I'm really hoping that we find out they had to cut the segment because Troyer was so offended by it that he refused to work if they did it.
Then I hope we find out that the pointless and terrible Carlito and Henry rapping segments were how they compensated for the lack of content. Instead
of... you know... wrestling.

I fully agree with you on this. How harder could it have been to have Henry and Miz wrestle 5 minutes longer, or have HHH-Jericho wrestle a 20 minute
match instead of 10? Mark F'ing Henry was involved in 4 separate bits, counting the head scratching rap since there was a commercial break
before his match. Mark Henry killing Jillian by falling on her was awful, and Mark Henry rapping topped that. Also, I would have liked more if Shaemus
went to fight Cena instead of walking away. I think he would have been better served even teaming with Carlito to beat Cena's ass. This was a
pretty uninspired Raw

I agree with every word DrBoz said about Verne Troyer. Is there a creepier human being alive?
I actually was enjoying Raw quite a bit up until the Mark Henry rapping segment. I understand that they want the guy to get over but that was really
bad. That kind of killed the show dead. But everything up to that point was decent. Not great, but not just awful either.
Maryse is gold and I'm happy she's back. And for all the hell a lot of us around here give Melina she really is fairly well-rounded as a
worker. She does a lot of the little things right in a match with facial expressions and things that really add a lot. Its too bad she's sloppy
as hell on the wrestling end of things.
Whatever happened to the Ted DiBiase face turn that was supposed to sell all those Marine 2 DVDs?

Can you believe that once Carlito beat John Cena for a title.
Sheamus should have came down him and carlito should have taken cena down, and then Shemus should have punted Carlito in the head. Just because he
can.
Man did the Miz totally own Mark Henry on the mic tonight. IIf Swagger is really in the dog house, the Miz could hang on to that strap for a little
while. There isn't really anyone else to put it on for the time being.
I have been reading that Swagger is in the dog house. Anyone heard the reason why? He seems good to me.
MVP is due a heel turn soon ....its coming, man did his move to really hurt his character.
Jerichoshow has been for weeks talking about how they are the best tag team in history. If Edge can go I expect to see a 5 second pose at
Wrestlemania.
Did anyone else have a moment of silence for poor Santino when they heard his music to face Sheamus. Poor Santino.

Its funny, I was thinking today that you could probably make a case for Melina being the "best" women's wrestler from an "all around"
perspective. Assuming we give extra bank to WWE because its WWE and way more people know Melina than Awesome Kong, Sara Del Rey, or Mercedes
Martinez. And assuming we're talking the total package of looks, speaking ability, presence, storytelling, and all that. Melina is probably
the best balance of "Diva" and "Wrestler" in WWE who may not have her character as well defined as Maryse but is a stronger wrestler and may not
be as good as Phoenix but is a more inspired performer.
But she's also a terrible face, a mediocre wrestler, and prone to botching the overly complicated moves she tries to work into her arsenal.
I wasn't enjoying RAW until the Henry stuff but I do agree that the show took a turn there. To that point I didn't really have anything I
liked about RAW but it was all basically unoffensive and at worst boring and forgettable. RAW just bottomed out with the Henry stuff and never
recovered.

See, I don't know why they thought Henry needed fixing. He's been doing quite well as a babyface, I don't think people in general
were saying he's boring or lacks personality. He's a big black guy that crushes loudmouths. It's a good spot. Hell, the "I'm
not boring, look at me do this thing that [supposedly] shows I have a personality" gimmick never worked when they did it with guys like Lance Storm
who actually were notoriously boring.
Raw was bad this week again after a few strong weeks. I loved the basic idea of Carlito coming down and trash-talking Cena with this notion of the
locker room being tired of Cena hogging the spotlight. But it could've used a mention of their history, and Sheamus should've annihilated
Cena. A win over Santino Marella in a brawl does not a credible world champion make, even if there's a table involved.
Similarly, Orton vs Kofi felt very flat to me. The Legacy beatdowns didn't look as crippling as they were made out to be. They should've
announced an Orton vs Kofi match for TLC, then did the beatdown deal as part of a Kofi vs Rhodes match or something. Now the first real singles match
of the feud has been blown and I'm supposed to pay money to see it again in 2 weeks?
I'd rather have seen the midget court than an uninspired DX/Jerishow promo and HHH vs Jericho main event. I enjoyed parts of the guest
commentary on that, though.
Verne was awful, the women's match was as expected, and nothing got me excited for the PPV.
I bet it's going to be the 7852465th instalment of Swagger vs Bourne on fucking Superstars as well.

It didn't live up to its potential.
And I'm just wondering about Verne Troyer's health at this point. He seemed very pale and gaunt, even for someone of his tiny stature.
Not to be grim but, anyone got him in the deathpool?

No surprise that RAW took a few steps back, compared to last weeks episode.
It doesn't help when the opening promo between Jerishow and DX puts me to sleep 10 minutes in. Fortunately, Maryse shows up early enough to
shake me out of my slumber. Man I love that woman! I don't know what it is, but she has that "it" factor working for her.
Santino really brought out the funny with Sheamus. The beatdown was pretty much what I expected. Credit needs to be given to Sheamus, I can't
remember the last time a table blew up like that in a WWE ring.
God bless Miz, he tried to save the segment with Verne Troyer and Mark Henry, but that would have required a devine intervention.
It didn't surprise me that Kofi got his this week, he has been one step ahead of Orton for a while now. I agree with what others have said,
that the beatdown by Legacy was really oversold.
Mark Henry goes over on Miz......because?
The ME was solid, but nothing special. It will be interesting to see how Jericho handles the handicap match next week.
Final Score: 2.8

That promo Carlito did on Cena was interesting, especially after Jesse saying something similar at the end of last week. Do you think they could
actually be going in the direction of a heel turn for him?

No.
Edit - Let me clarify - As long as DX is selling craploads of glowsticks, t-shirts, and (as debuted last night) winter hats and as long as Cena is
selling merch by the truckload, none of those guys are going to be seeing any changes to their characters.

I didn't want Jerishow to lose and I didn't want DX to win the tag titles, but the idea of getting Jericho off Raw made me think of a
fantasy booking thing that'd ammuse me.
So Jerishow loses, but Jericho still wants to be on Raw. A couple weeks after TLC, a new masked Tag Team debuts on Raw: "The Machines", Big
Machine(Big Show) and Elite Machine(Jericho, maybe some other descriptor than Elite?, King?). Meanwhile Big Show is "off" Smackdown while another
new masked tag team debuts there: "The Conquistadors", "Conquistador #1"(Jericho) and "Conquistador #2-and-a-half"(Big Show)

Jericho (and Show) doing a Conquistadors knock-off -- hell, given the events of 1986, it'd be more appropos to call it a "Machines" knock-off,
right? -- would be just about the only cool out if they have DX win the titles.
That said, I'd just much prefer if they don't have DX win the titles, and avoid that whole headache altogether. Not only is DX the kind of
act that needs to be kept fresh by not being over-exposed (and we are coming up on them being back for 5 months, now; I know them glowsticks are the
biggest moneymakers for WWE since "Austin 3:16," but for those of us over the age of 11, the welcome is now official in danger of being
over-stayed), but RAW would genuinely benefit from one of HHH/Michaels turning heel, rather than having them stick together for no reason other than
to banish Jericho back to SD.
And honestly: do you HAVE to make this storyline be about HHH wanting to rid RAW of Jericho? That's like trying to personally antogonize me...
the one guy who is almost golden in anything he does and is so versatile that he's the perfect fit for the whole "Guest Host" gimmick as the
Antogonist du Jour, and you declare that you WANT him gone from the show? Boo.
Trips accomplishes his goal, and he only accomplishes a reduction in RAW's overall potential entertainment value in a given week. Once again
setting the age cut-off at about 11, that means HHH should be the HEEL in this to most fans.
JeriShow will retain at TLC, and Jericho will keep showing up on RAW. It's the only outcome that makes a lick of sense. Unless they really do
try a "Yellow Dog" type gimmick with Jericho, I guess...
Other random thought from last night....
Cena really should have been there to save Santino before the table spot last night. [Seriously: what's with him all of a sudden, for the first
time EVER that I remember, being the kind of corporate douchenozzle who shows up an hour and 15 minutes into a show he's supposed the star of,
stepping out of a limo?]
Then Santino should have "saved" Cena later when he was beating on Carlito, while Sheamus came out and stared towards the ring menacingly.
Total missed opportunity for some mutli-layered/interwoven storytelling (which also would have combined the efforts to ease the unproven Sheamus into
a bigger role with the proven crowd-pleasing stylings of one Mr. Marella).
Still, even without WWE doing that simple thing THIS week, I got serious money that next week goes like this:
Cena/Santino vs. Sheamus/Carlito. Carlito takes the fall. An annoyed Sheamus responds by putting Carlito through a table while Cena
doesn't-give-a-shit and while Santino celebrates like HE did anything to win the match while tooting his trombone. On Tuesday, WWE wishes
Carlito the best in all his future endeavors. BANK ON IT~!
I miss Shane McMahon's voice of sanity already....
