Because the product was actually good. HBK had made a return that night, Rock was slightly turning face, the Ministry and Corporation where in full

It's too bad this is happening when WWE is actually starting to push new characters like Miz/Kofi/Sheamus and maybe trying some new storylines.
Now if Raw gets slaughtered (or even dinged) in the ratings, that will be blamed and it'll be right back to Orton/Cena/HHH for 2 more years.

Yep, that would do it. Especially since WWF was at the height of its popularity at the time and the story made national news immediately.

It wasnt that episode that got the 8.0. It was the one from Orlando where HBK returned as commish. I remember cause it was the first ever Raw I saw.

TNA has a better chance of getting nice rating going up against RAW with Rock as guest host and the Boise St-TCU Fiesta Bowl on the 4th. Because on
the 7th, the BS...er BCS Championship Game between Alabama and Texas WILL definitely be a ratings killer.
So to me this is a smart move by TNA and Spike. While you'll lose badly to RAW, at least you don't disappear off the radar from your core
demographic who is watching the 2nd biggest football game of the year.

If the advertisement I heard was correct, this RAW will be in Columbus, OH. But I take it from earlier posts that the guest GM has not been decided
yet. Hmm...if it is the Rock, I wonder if it is worth trying to win tickets.... My first wrestling experience (outside of this board) in about 6
years.

I know the product was in top form back then, but what did really triggered it to jump to 8.0 in only one night to then come back down to 6.0?

Sadly, I think it's incorrect. Raw is in town here on 1/25. I was going to go, but can't afford it right before the holidays.

Looking at that graph even at it's lowest point, Nitro was doing better numbers than Impact. I want his to fail, more to knock TNA managements
faith in Hogan.
But if the numbers stay stable on monday and do a huge number on Thursday, they should take it as a win.

While I certainly see where you are coming from... in the modern day, anyone can search for 5 min online and find a youtube or download of the show
within hours of it ending.
From TNA's, WWE's, and the advertiser's point of view... the question is who do you want to watch live? Which show makes you feel
like it is important enough to catch it right away.
Real time streams generally suck, so every wrestling fan must choose what to watch immediately, and what can wait to watch later on DVR, youtube,
etc.
I think this is a very DIFFERENT culture than the WCW vs WWF monday night wars, but nonetheless, it'll be fascinating to see how it all plays
out.

The 8.1 was 5-10-99.
There was a Vince/Rock/Austin vs. Shane/Undertaker/HHH match.
And yes, Sean is correct. Here is a listing of matches from May 1999 WWF shows.

Yeah, that's pretty silly. Hogan may be delusional, but he knows how to promote shit. I'm actually excited to see this show. It's
the first time I've made sure to MAKE time for wrestling in a very long while. I don't watch RAW anyway, so I probably won't be
flipping back and forth unless something really crazy goes down.
Apparently, Bisch is overseeing a complete overhaul of the Impact Zone to make it more modern (read: like WWE). I'm actually probably more
excited to see what they do with the set than with the product itself. How gay is THAT? Hopefully they won't touch the ring or the lasers.

I'm worried about the ring. It took me a long time to get used to the 6-sided ring, and I'm scared Hogan's going to change it.

I was watching some TNA from 2004 yesterday and I was amazed at how different the Impact Zone and production looked. Bischoff always did a good job
reinventing WCW aesthetically so I'm optimistic. TNA's production or look really doesn't bother me in any way but they have clear
places they can improve.
The 6 sided ring is a total non-factor to me. I don't even think I notice it at this stage. TNA action just blends in with all the other
wrestling I watch. That being said while I think there's a few positive strengths to the ring I'm not sure it really adds any significant
gain to it. And its clear that others do have a real problem with it so I won't cry if it disappears on January 4th.
Save the Face/Heel tunnels though. Those are winners!
The 3.0 is probably a pipe dream but its Hogan. Its what he does. I'm just annoyed because I was summoned to jury duty on the 4th and
I'm worried my day's going to be too crazy to really settle in and watch this show like I'm excited to.

I certainly hope they don't change the ring. Love it or hate it, it's a TNA signature and it differentiates the brand from all other
popular wrestling out there. If TNA really wants to go to war with WWE, one of the highlights to winning that war will be forcing WWE to adopt the
6-sided ring. That is if the point truly is to make TNA synonymous with pro wrestling in America. It's a far fetched goal to be sure, but a
possibility if things get really bad for WWE down the line.

I don't know if it's been mentioned anywhere else, but I would like to officially predict Lashley winning the TNA title on the January 4th
episode. While watching Impact tonight, I was thinking about how when TNA first went national (on I believe Fox Sports), Raven had the belt but
dropped it to Jarrett. As much as I love AJ, he's kind of in a similar boat. If TNA is really looking to "take the first shot" at the WWE,
Lashley is a guy who most WWE fans (and probably MMA fans) would be familiar with. Hell, maybe Daniels even captures the title at the PPV and gets his
moment in the sun as a transitional champ before Lashley wins it.
Anyhow, I hope I'm wrong about everything I just typed.

Seeing as how Lashley just signed with StrikeForce, I don't think he'll really be in TNA much longer. At least, not as much as he has
been recently. Thus, I normally wouldn't think they'd put the title on him. But, with Bisch, Hogan, and Russo, who the hell knows?

I don't see the point in them when most of the roster are tweeners. I don't know if you're being sarcastic with your support for the
tunnels, but aren't you always opposed to the idea that all heels are friends and all faces are friends? Surely that should extend to the locker
room allocation as well.
Anyway, I think WWE would be wise to have Rock host on the 11th if they have the choice. I've heard Cena won't be on Raw on the 4th
because he's doing something at a football game (coin toss or something?) to promote WrestleMania. And WWE probably wants to have Rock interact
with Cena.
I suppose it'll come down to how secure WWE are with their chances against TNA. There isn't much stunt booking they can do. Rock and
Austin are the only names on the same level as Hogan, so it wouldn't be worth WWE paying RVD what he thinks he's worth. The jump
they'd get from his return on the 4th would be negligible.
If there's no Cena on the 4th, I'm very curious as to what they'd book for a main event. I'd love it to be a Kofi Kingston
title win but I'd be surprised if it didn't contain at least two of the HHH/HBK/Jericho/Orton squad.

Cena's the grand marshall of the Fiesta Bowl parade that day. I believe the Dudleyz are in the parade too but its not like TNA will really miss
them that night.
As I understand it Rock's probably not happening for the 4th or the 11th because he has better shit to do. If he hosts it will be probably be
down the line.
I'm of two minds about the face/heel tunnels. While they do serve as sort of an easy cheat to answer some alignment questions that pop up they
are more than a little contrived.
On the other hand they make a lot of kayfabe sense if you look at it not as 2 separate tunnels that they just walk through based on how they're
feeling but rather that its 2 separate locker rooms that lead out to the ring arena. That's the interpretation I've long taken and I like
it because while the idea that all faces room together and all heels room together is a little cheap and easy it makes every bit of sense in the world
that AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels have locker rooms on opposite sides of the arena because they hate each other too much to be sharing one. Its
always bugged me when you see faces and heels who hate each other sitting 5 feet from each other in the back. Of course its shouldn't be as
simple as "face" and "heel." Some heels don't like each other and some faces have their problems. But I do sort of like the made up
storytelling I've done of 2 locker rooms and functionally I do think the tunnels give TNA the Imapact Zone a nice little balanced look and prove
useful to the viewer from time to time.
I probably won't really care if they go, though.
