I tossed my Ipod on shuffle and went with the first ten songs that I had something to say about. So here we go:
Say Anything - Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too - I first heard this song at warped tour a few years ago and nothing is more terrifying then a bunch of teen
girls singing along to a song where the main lyric is "I called her on the phone and she touched herself." Still the song got stuck in my head and
remains painfully catchy to this day.
Jeffrey Lewis - Amanda is a Scalape - Jeffrey Lewis is this bizarre indie/folk singer who I thought was funny when I saw him in concert so I bought
his album The Last Time I Did Acid I Went Insane. All I can say is I believe him. He clearly did go insane.
Thrice - At The Last - Thrice is such a strange band. They seem to change sounds every album. This song, like most on Beggars, just has a strange
vibe to is. Sometimes it seems like they over think their music, but I still love them and this song it pretty hard hitting.
Thrice - The Melting Point of Wax - In the top two or three best Thrice songs in my opinion. One of two songs they have written about
Icarus/Daedalus, this one being from Icarus's point of view and includes some great lyrics such as "There's no promise of safety with
these secondhand wings, but I'm willing to find out what impossible means" and "how will I know limits from lies if I never try?" A
surprisingly inspiring song.
City and Colour - Body in a Box - Not a bad song but feels a bit like filler for the album.
April Sixth - You Come Around - April Sixth has to be the greatest Christian Emo band in history. Also probably the only one. Good song and not
exactly subtle in the singing about God/Jesus.
Me First and The Gimme Gimmes - Favorite Things - From their album of showtune covers. Just great stuff. though I prefer Somewhere Over the
Rainbow
Funeral For A Friend - Red is the New Black - Probably my favorite band of all time and this was the first song that got me into them. Just dominate
metal influenced guitar work.
Emery - As Your Voice Fades - Written after his grandmother passed away, the last 1:30 or so of this song gives me chills everytime. Really just
classic Emery showing off all three vocalists as well as both their hard and soft sides. Though the girl talking in the middle feels a bit gimmicky.
New Radicals - I Don't Wanna Die Anymore - I'm sad they broke up after "You Get What You Give" became a hit, because songs like this
show how much potential this band had.

I really liked that "Get What You Give" song by The New Radicals. Reminds me of freshman year of college.
Random 10 to start my day -
1. Type O Negative "We Hate Everyone" - Awesome, pure negativity by the guys who do it best. "You say we're racist? Well shit comes in
all hues, and that means you!" No matter what you believe...we don't believe in you, and that's true!"
2. The Cure "Boys Dont Cry" - One of the best break-up songs of all time. There was a time I couldn't relate to it. Unfortunately, now I
can.
3. Los Lonely Boys "Crazy Dream" - Sure they ape a lot of their riffs from Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughn, but I could think of a lot worse
artists to base your songs off of!
4. Black Label Society "Speedball" - Just Zakk shredding on an acoustic for about 1:30. Badass stuff.
5. Wyclef Jean "Sang Fezi" - Oh, for the days back before Lauren Hill lost her mind.
6. U2 "Love Is Blindness" - One of my faves off of "Achtung Baby."
7. Nirvana "Been A Son" - I need to get a new copy of "Incesticide." That was a defining CD of my teens.
8. Nightwish "Moondance"
9. Lacuna Coil "Cold"
10. Garbage "Why Dont You Come Over" - I really liked Garbage's last album and thought that would kinda be a new beginning for them.
Unfortunately, it looks like I was wrong.
Anyone who lets their hair grow below their ears to where I can't see their ears means they don't wash. If they don't wash, they
stink, and if they stink, I don't want the son-of-a-bitch around me.

"X-Offender"-Blondie
Everybody's heard "One Way Or Another", but this song is a much better vintage with the Farfisa melody, Clem Burke's punchy drumming
while Debbie Harry lusts after the cop who's arrested her.
"Shit Called Love"-The Pagans
The Pagans were a '77 era punk rock band from Cleveland. This paean of confusion asks the eternal question "What's this shit called
love?" only to answer itself with "I don't know!"
"Train Kept A Rollin"-Johnny Burdette Trio
Fuck Aerosmith, this rockabilly original is straight out insane. Several times you can hear this primitive record just peg the recording levels into
blissful distortion. Jack White, eat your heart out.
"Don't You Just Know It"-Huey Piano Smith And The Clowns
If there were any justice, you should be able to look up the word "rollicking" and find this song as the definition. Used over the end credits of
"Snatch".
"I'm Blue (Gong-Gong Song)"-The Ike-ettes
The back-up singers for The Ike and Tina Turner Review in the 1960's. This song is just amazing. I can't do it justice of a
description.
"I Just Wanna Have Something To Do Tonight"-The Ramones
As someone who's life was changed by the first 3 Ramones LPs, hearing this 1st song off of their "Road To Ruin" album was quite a shock.
Ultimately I thought this album was indeed the beginning of the end for the Ramones, but the staggered riff and Joey's vocals made this probably
my favorite song by the band.
"Kiss Me On The Bus"-The Replacements
Thee. Most. Perfect. Replacements. Song. Ever.
"Powderfinger"-Neil Young and Crazy Horse
An outstandingly enigmatic tale about a young man killed by river pirates. A great example of Young's verse-solo-verse-solo methodology when
rocking with Crazy Horse.
"Uncontrollable Urge"-Devo
If a robot could have an orgasm, it would sound like this.
"Trampled Underfoot"-Led Zeppelin
In my humble opinion, one of the best songs to drive fast to ever made.
Opinions are like assholes,
everybody's got one.

Some songs I've been listening to this morning.
1,2,3 Thousand Problems- Lost Boyz- I remember seeing the Lost Boyz play a show at my sisters college a couple months before Freaky Tah was murdered.
It always makes me sad because Tah was on of the most charismatic performers Ive ever seen.
2. Livin on a Prayer- Bon Jovi- True story; in second grade we had to make St. Patricks Day themed decorations for a local nursing home. I made
Bon Jon Leprechaun. It was awesome.
3. Unspoken Word- RZA as Bobby Digital- Just a great song off a way underrated CD.
4. Ill Fly with You- Gigi DAgostino- In some parallel universe Im probably a gay club kid.
5. One Thing Leads To Another- The Fixx-This song reminds me of road trips with my dad.
6. Light & Day- Polyphonic Spree- In another parallel universe Im a hippy in a cult somewhere climbing trees.
7. I Got 5 On It- Luniz-Ill be damned if you get high off me for free, Hell No you better bring your own spliff chief!
8. Real Muthaphukkin Gs- Eazy E- Eazy does it.
9. Get By- Talib Kweli- This morning I woke up feeling brand new I jumped up feeling my highs and my lows and my soul and my goals.
10. I Made It- Kevin Rudolf Ive been on this weird Kevin Rudolf kick for a couple weeks now I gotta say I really dig his shit.

He made one album that I know of, and it's all the most stereotypical techno club stuff - but that album is awesome, and that song in particular
is fucking magic.
In a parallel universe (my 2002-era life), I was a gay club kid and LOVED that song. I should dig it out again.

I think it all depends on what kind of music you like, Boz. To tell you the truth, I haven't heard of much of what's on everyone
else's lists either. Which does impress me! If I was seeing a lot of Nickleback or Staind popping up, I'd be concerned for these boards.
If you want to go with a good rule of thumb I use, it's this - If I like it...it's good.
Pre-weekend playlist to get me out of work!!
1. HIM - Play Dead - They're coming to Myrtle Beach and Atlanta in March and both shows are on fucking weeknights. I guess my goal of seeing
HIM live one day will be on hold for another couple of years.
2. Bjork - Human Behaviour
3. Aesop Rock - Gun For The Whole Family - I don't listen to barely any current hip-hop but Aesop Rock is straight-up awesome.
4. Lost Boys - Orale
5. Down - The Tides - Saw them live in September and it was one of the best shows I've seen in a while. For everything Phil Anselmo has been
through mentally and physcially, that motherfucker still brings it on stage every night.
6. Radiohead - Nude
7. AFI - The Interview - Seeing them live in March!! I can't wait to be surrounded by a couple thousand gothed-out Emo kids.
8. Foo Fighters - Stranger Things Have Happened
9. Bloc Party - Song For Clay (Disappear Here) - "East London is a vampire, it will suck the blood right out of you." Love, Love, LOVE me some
Bloc Party! Whenever I listen to them I'm transported to London.
10. Katatonia - Journey Through Pressure

After a minor setback in my progress of listening to all songs on my iPod in one continuous shuffle, I'm back on track. Here's ten from
this morning -
1. Bloc Party - Hunting For Witches
2. Radiohead - 15 Steps - Anybody see them perform this song at the Grammy's a year or two ago with the USC marching band backing them up?
Great shit.
3. Lacuna Coil - No Need To Explain - One of their first, and best, songs. You could tell they were going to be good.
4. The Mars Volta- CygnusVismund Cygnus - I have to be in a certain mindframe to listen to Mars Volta, at least their more challenging stuff. They
are a couple of astounding musicians though.
5. AFI - Kiss and Control
6. HIM - Dead Lover's Lane - New HIM album out Feb. 9! Not sure if it will be as good as their past releases. I've heard two singles
and one (Heartkiller) I really like but the other (Like St. Valentine) might have to grow on me.
7. Pearl Jam - Animal - I remember my friends and I watching them perform this song at the '93 (or was it '94?) Video Music Awards and
all of us basically having a simultaneous orgasm because Pearl Jam was back!! Then they proceeded to lose me for the next 16 years until I bought
their newest release a few months ago and it yanked me back onto the bandwagon.
8. Down - Hail The Leaf - No explanation needed.
9. Machines Of Loving Grace - Golgotha Tenement Blues - From probably my favorite movie soundtrack of all-time, "The Crow."
10. Bjork - Violently Happy

Try Pandora.
Just create some stations of some of these bands and see if you like them or the stuff that Pandora thinks sounds like them. You give it thumbs and
thumbs down to different songs and it gets better over time.

Thanks! I think I tried Pandora a while back, but not on purpose and not for any extended period of time. This might be a good reason to try it
again.
I've been so far removed from music for a few years that I have no idea what's out there anymore. All I know is that whatever asshole
station is playing at work is usually playing some godawful Pop that makes me want to stab pencils in my ears. And I usually LIKE shitty pop
music.
I think I'll give Pandora a whirl this weekend when I'm avoiding work.

At my current job that I've had for the past year, I was forced to listen to whatever our receptionist had on at the time since my desk is right
near hers (it was usually the adult contemporary/pop music station, which is understandable since we have people coming in the office throughout the
day). Regardless, I don't know how I made it through the year without sticking pencils in my ears. Radio in America is in a dire situation.
Regardless, I now listen to my iPod at my desk and all is right with the world.

I've got a really small MP3 player (it's only got 4 MB storage), but I still like it and am cheap so I just have about 50 albums on there
at any given time and switch a few in and out on the weekends. Usually I'll listen on shuffle for a while, wait for a song to really catch me in
a "Boy, I haven't heard this album in a while!" kind of way, then I'll play the album in full if I have time, and then the next weekend
it goes out of the rotation. Anyway, here's a random 10 shuffle picks from the albums I have on there now, confirming my white indie hipsterdom
in all likelihood. I swear I'm not a dick in real life, though.
1) Missing the War - Ben Folds Five. I really love this album to remind me of 10 years ago when I really used to mope about girls that didn't
want my dick, although I could also recommend Ben's cover of Bitches Ain't Shit
2) Brother Down - Sam Roberts. Sam's a pretty solid indie rocker from Montreal - I used to live there for a couple of years, so I'm always
listening to some band from there.
3) Do the Evolution - Pearl Jam. At the time Yield came out I was more into the awesome video for this than the song, but it is one of the better
songs on one of PJ's weaker albums.
4) Great Lake Swimmers - Great Lake Swimmers. This is such mellow music. I love it, but I've always joked you put on GLS at the end of a party
when you want everyone to get sleepy and leave.
5) Don't Lose the Faith - The Dears. It's another Montreal band. Their lead singer has been nicknamed "The Black Morrissey", a nickname
he apparently hates.
6) All the Young Punks (New Boots and Contracts) - The Clash. I pretty much always have something from the Clash on my playlists. So should you.
7) Here Comes Your Man - The Pixies. Fuck you, Bloodhoud Gang, for making a rare funny reference in a lyric so that I can never make my better
formulated "Barry White is black, but Frank Black is white. Discuss." joke without seeming like I'm stealing from you juvenile assclowns.
8) Hypnotize - The White Stripes. I think Elephant is the best album Jack White's been a part of, but then I haven't really like any of
his non White Stripes bands.
9) The Hazards of Love 2 (Wager All) - The Decemberists. This is from a concept album that is basically a little rock opera. The Decemberists are a
really geeky band to like because they do these obscure little historical stories to make up the lyrics of songs, but listening to them will get you
laid by sensitive, slightly overweight chicks who don't shave anywhere. If that's your thing, spend a year or so getting into their back
catalogue and I can pretty much guarantee you an awkward handjob in a bar bathroom on date two any time you want it.
10) Flowin' Prose - Beastie Boys. I had an hour to kill downtown yesterday (work ended up earlier than expected, but I was carpooling so I had
to stick around) so I went to the library, read magazines and listened to Hello Nasty. It was awesome.

I don't know that you'd necessarily call Sam Roberts indy. He's actually quite well established in Canada and gets regular rock

It's like you took a slice out of my adolescence with these three songs. Lost Boyz are possibly my favorite rap group of all-time.
That's awesome you got to see them live. I spent many a wasted day cruising around with my buddies, indulging in some "herbal remedies," and
listening to Wu-Tang, Lost Boyz, Mobb Deep, Cypress Hill, A Tribe Called Quest, and one of my buddies even had a mix tape with "I Got 5 On It."
Great shit.

Decided to switch up my playlist for the gym (somehow Evanescence wasn't really inspiring me to go any faster). Opted to look for lots of songs
with really good beats. This ultimately lead to an influx of R&B; and club songs/remixes. Here's a sample of the crap I'm listening to
now:
1) "Shakin' It 4 Daddy" by Robin Thicke. Man this kid looks like his dad. Judging by his genre, I'd guess that, unlike John
Mayer, Thicke's dick ain't a white supremacist. I don't know if Thicke is really any good, but I enjoy most of his stuff.
2) "Beggin'" by Madcon. Backstory on me: My mom is a dance teacher, so I ended up dancing for like 15 years. As a result, I tend to
gravitate towards music that lends itself to choreography. This is one of those songs. Excellent beat. Well structured for the purposes of dance.
Good energy for exercising as well.
3) "She Ain't Got...." by LeToya. I stumbled upon this one listening to a dance station online. I was shooting some hoops yesterday,
and when this song came on I went on a major hot streak. Definitely energized me for the 3-4 minutes it played, so apparently it was a good selection
for the purposes of working out.
4) "Speechless" by Lady GaGa. I never would've known this song existed were it not for the Lady Gaga thread in this same forum. I
still hate about 75% of her shit, but this one shows me that, beyond her insanity is a pretty fucking talented broad. This song latches on to me in a
way I didn't expect.
5) "Crazy Possessive" by Kaci Battaglia. I heart crazy bitches. "Call my man again and imma fuck you up, and then you call me your best
friend." Nice!
6) "Single Ladies" by Beyonce. Yeah really. Keep in mind this is my workout mix. Totally gay I know. But I tell you what, I got $50 that
says at least three people on this very website have done some form of the Single Ladies dance at some point in time. It's that damn catchy.
Homos.
7) "Damaged" by Danity Kane. This has been on my IPod for a year and I still enjoy it. Another one with a great beat for working out.
I've never heard any other songs by them. All I know of them is what I saw on Making the Band.
8) "Imma Be" by Black Eyed Peas. The refrain is what sucks me in on this one. It's also another one where choreography instantly
jumps to me. Basically if I find myself mentally doing isolations and hip hop moves while running on the treadmill, I know I have a good song.
9) "Vermillion Pt. 2" by Slipknot. Just checking to see if anyone's paying attention. I really like many of their songs, so I decided
to go with one that was kind of out of the box for them. I appreciate when an artist does something completely opposite of what you expect. This
song sticks out on the album like a sore thumb, but that's why I enjoy it.
10) "Man That You Fear" by Marilyn Manson. More backstory: Lived with a bunch of satanists one year (or they were pretending to be
satanists, I'm not really sure). Happened to be the year Antichrist Superstar was out. Coincidence? Whatever the case may be, I heard a lot
of Manson that year and honestly really liked the album. This is a holdover from my last playlist. Periodically I like to embrace my despondency.

You know, I happened to hear one of his songs on the local urban/hip hop station the other day and it once again pounded the point home that, if you
had told me during the glory days of "Growing Pains" that one day Alan Thicke's son would be a legitimate R&B; singer, I would've asked
what kind of drugs you were on and can I have some. I guess "street cred" isn't a worry for him.

Orton vs. DiBiase is on.
I can prob get through 4 songs before Orton gets to the ring
1) The Cult - Coming Down (Put the Boot In). Off the Rare Cult box set. One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands off one of the best
box sets I've bought to date. The extended into alone gives me a smile. Favorite listens to of this song were pre-coming down.......
2) The Clash - Career Opportunities. Not on my list of their best, but The Clash and London Calling take alternating spots on my "must have desert
island discs". London Calling is it right now.
3) Cinderella - Bad Seamstress Blues. Got the "C" thing going apparently. Long Cold Winter rocked for hairband music and this song kicked it off
well.
4) Andrew W.K. - I Get Wet. I love my CD collection. I think this was on a Christmas list and my mom bought it for me one year. And I had
to explain this to her Christmas morning (the CD cover with him with blood coming out of his mouth).
5) Alice in Chains - Whale & Wasp. I love their mellower stuff and this instrumental fits the bill. Still convinced that Private Hell off their
new disc (and best song on it) is a combo of this + Down in a Hole.
6) Butthole Surfers - The Lord is a Monkey. I'll celebrate Texas Independence Day tmo by listening to this Austin-based gem of a group.
7) Bruce Springsteen - The Wrestler. I hate Bruce. Don't need any blue collar working man crap and don't own any of his stuff. Until I
heard this song at the end of The Wrestler. Great song. Great context. I own something Bruce now.
8) Sigue Sigue Sputnik - 21st Century Boy.
9) Skid Row - I Remember You.
10) Old Crow Medicine Show - Wagon Wheel. Great Dylan cover. Didn't know it was Dylan when I first heard it. If you like bluegrass give
these guys a listen.

They played "Let's Get A Party Started" video on Headbanger's Ball the other week and
I forgot how awesome that song was.

If you had cut it off here, win.

Let's bump this bitch back up with a random 10 from the Gooker's iPod (note - I've gotten a ton of new music in the last few months)
-
1. Your Bedtime Story Is Scaring Everyone - In Flames (Awesome song title; strange song)
2. The Angels Hung Around - Rilo Kiley (I've been meaning to check out Jenny Lewis's new project with her boyfriend. Though I
don't think I could handle the jealousy I would feel in hearing Jenny Lewis working with her significant other)
3. The Zephyr Song - Red Hot Chili Peppers (Of their songs that got overplayed, this is one that I'll still listen to)
4. Chapter Four - Avenged Sevenfold (Killer)
5. Peace Sign/Index Down - Gym Class Heroes (They've done better)
6. Daylight Dancer - Lacuna Coil
7. Chico Me Tipo - Sublime (Their music just isn't as effective in the fall. Much better to listen to while lounging by a pool or beach in the
sun)
8. Death Of A Dream - The Embrace That Smothers Part 7 - Epica (The latest recruit in my "symphonic metal" catalog. They are really pretty good.
And the lead singer is hot as fuck)
9. Last Of The Wilds - Nightwish (a damn fine take on rural, rustic Finnish music by the masters of symphonic metal)
10. Prayers For Rain - The Cure (The anti-thesis of Sublime on a fall day. This song is PERFECT for gray, rainy weather)

This is blasphemy. Bruce is more than just blue collar. The River, Born To Run, Nebraska and The Rising are all masterpieces, IMO.

Not to turn this into a "Bruce" debate but I just never got Bruce. I don't think I've heard a single song of his that I've really
liked and don't think I ever will. Just personal taste.

Try "Prove It All Night", especially one of the awesome live versions (circa '78) on youtube. I kind of made fun of Bruce when I was younger,
but that song brought me in and now I'm a fan.

My only favorite. Sounds vaguely Hip Hoppish to me (at least the actual recorded version).
