April Sixth
Happy April Sixth Day everyone!
For those of you uninformed fools April Sixth was a legendary Christian Emo Punk band during the mid2000s. Unfortunately, before they could reach the
massive success they were destined for (or even release their first album) they were dropped by Sony Records and broke up though I'm not sure in
what order.
Fortunately, I was able to get a burned copy of every song they were able to record via the lead singer's website. I'm just glad I was
able to see them open for Alien Ant Farm on their final tour before breaking up.
Here is one of their harder songs:
And here is an acoustic version of one of their best songs that also clearly shows their Christian roots
And here is me with my April Sixth shirt
What is the point you ask? I have no idea. April Sixth Rules!

You'll have Goon's attention just from the fact that they opened up for Alien Ant Farm. Also, he has a thing for bands that were around
for a while and never really went anywhere.
Anyone who lets their hair grow below their ears to where I can't see their ears means they don't wash. If they don't wash, they
stink, and if they stink, I don't want the son-of-a-bitch around me.

Thanks for the warning. I'll make sure to actively avoid this band in the future.

Eve 6 is awesome. I could listen to their first two albums at anytime and enjoy it. Inside Out is also a really fun song to karaoke. As the rest of
this post proves I also clearly enjoy bands that never really made it.
2Hot, I'm curious as to if it was the Emo or the Christian part that scares you off. When I was younger I had a fairly active dislike for
anything that couldn't fall under Rock music but as years have gone on I've come to realize there are no bad genres only bad bands. While
rock will always be my favorite genre I've come to appreciate that there is some good Rap and Country and Hip Hop and Pop and all these other
genres I used to hate.
Despite only having been in a church about 4 times in the last decade I have found myself listening to a lot of bands with mostly Christian members.
In that theme and for no particular reason I present my top 5 "Christian" rock bands. For most of these bands you could listen to them and not even
realize they are Christian but I'll throw in a song by them that does demonstrate the band's faith.
1. Emery. They just might be my favorite band of all time. I fell in love with them 3 seconds into the first song of their debut album The
Weak's End. The scream of "Are You Listening?" certainly got my attention and that albums blend of 3 vocalists ranging from guttural
screaming to haunting beauty across complex songs filled with tempo and time signature changes remains awe inspiring to listen to. A change to a more
traditional verse-chorus style in The Question showed a new sign that still captured my attention. The more pop based sound of their third album
I'm Only a Man, showed Emery wasn't going to be satisfied with one type of sound. Finally their fourth album ...In Shallow Seas We Sail
seems like it could be the pinnacle of their work as it combines the pop and verse-chorus of recent albums with the raw energy of their debut to form
what I consider to be the most intense record I have ever heard. Also, the song that most shows their Christian roots would have to be
Listening To Freddy Mercury off of The Question.
Here is my hand, not words said desperately.
It's not our job to make anyone believe
2. Anberlin. Ive seen Anberlin in concert more times then any other band at a total of 6 times. After 3 albums they were signed by Universal and
have become decently successful. For their first major label album they re-recorded Feel Good
Dragfrom their 2nd album. Feel Good Drag)eventually became the Billboards #1
alternative rock song and actually set a record by taking 29 weeks to reach #1 after first entering the chart. I find it rather ironic that the song
eventually reached #1 since it was originally released 4 years prior. Feel Good Dragwas also
just released as DLC for Rock Band. The song that show off their Christian roots would be
Miserabile Visu (Ex Malo Bonum).
We're not questioning God
Just those he chose to carry on His cross
We're no better, you'll see
Just all of us, the lost causes
3. Letter Kills. The second concert I ever went to actually had Letter Kills and Anberlin opening for Story of the Year. It was a great show that
had the lead singer performing the most impressive mic whips I have ever seen. Unfortunately, Letter Kills broke up while recording their 2nd album.
Best thing I can say about them is their guitarist could write some catchy guitar riffs. I challenge anyone to not get the guitar on
Whatever It Takes stuck in their head. The bands name apparently comes from Second Corinthians
so that pretty much covers it but go with Lights Out to hear their Christian influence in a
song.
As long as we can sing well sing for you
4. Dead Poetic. Another great rock band who broke up. In this case the lead singer got married and wanted to start a family instead of nonstop
touring. While I miss the band I respect and admire that. Their song The Corporate Enthusiast became my anthem when I soled out and ended up in
business school. The song New Medicines was actually in the Wrestlemania 21 game for Xbox.
Cannibal vs Cunning is an all-time great rock song. Song that most clearly shows their
Christian roots would have to be Vices.
Oh, but Jesus. Ive got Vices like any other man.
Vices that youre so used to. Vices that wont make you think less of me
5. April Sixth. I think I pretty much covered them already. I would say of these 5 bands this is the only one where you would definitely realize
they are Christians. For the other bands it is one of many influences but for April Sixth it is the influence. Lets go with
You Come Around for clear Christian influence.
Love me, guide me, teach me your way.
To feel the compassion you give every day.
I know if I try it, just for a while,
Well I just might like it and come for more
Wow I think I may have put way to much effort into something only like three people might read. At least I've finally mastered putting links
into text by linking to about 10 you tube videos for the songs I reference.

I'm not into the whole Christian rock scene- not because I oppose Christian rock but because 99% of it is terrible- but I'll vouch for
Anberlin. That's a good band, there.

HAPPY APRIL SiXTH DAY!
Yup. I brought back a year old thread, but what can I say I love this band and celebrating like a dork is a silly fun thing to do. In re-reading my
posts from last year I'm actually kind of proud of what I wrote.
I still recommend anyone who likes rock music check out a couple of the songs I linked to last year.
Over the past year two of the bands I mentioned have released new albums. Last week Emery released their fifth album We Do What We Want and it is
awesome. Plus they have already announced an accoustic album for later this year. Still one of the top two bands of all time for me. Anberlin also
released a new album. Unfortunately, it is by far the worst album they have ever recorded. There are a couple of good songs, but I was quite
disapointed.

Not to speak for Goon again but have you tried reaching out to any of the former members of April Sixth, DaleM? I ask because there was a band (I
think they were called The Urgency) that Goon liked who broke up in the early-to-mid 2000's before hitting any real huge success as well and he
somehow tracked down their guitarist or something on Facebook, started conversing with him on there, and actually ended up getting a drink with the
guy when the Justin Bieber tour came through town because, no joke, the guy was currently playing with Bieber's opening act's band.

Good call gooker! It was crazy easy finding this guy on facebook. Now I just have to decide if it's too creepy or not.

That didn't stop my brother! Actually, when they met for drinks, it was at the hotel bar where the guy was staying for the night and I joked
that Goon was going to Roofie the poor dude and drag him back to his room to have his way with him.

Fuck you! The sex was consensual.
And the whole thing of me becoming friends with musicians I was a fan of on Facebook basically came about from meeting and hanging out with Alien Ant
Farm in late 2009. I became friends with those guys on Facebook, who in turn were friends with some other musicians I was a fan of. So it was
basically a matter of sending a "Hey, I'm a fan of your work and we have a few mutual friends in common...wanna add me as a friend?" message
to these guys, of which everyone was very cool with. Long story short, I've been fortunate enough to converse with and occasionally meet up with
these guys (and also allegedly rape them), which is pretty cool. Oh, and not that anybody will give a shit, but The Urgency was a newer band that
broke up in 2009, not the early-to-mid 2000's like my brother said.
And I'll say this from my experience with musicians that are or were in lesser known bands that are on Facebook (like Ant Farm and The Urgency,
though Ant Farm was pretty big for a little while): they seem to LOVE hearing from people who are genuine fans of their stuff, so I say it can't
hurt to send them a message/friend request.

Just to hijack DaleM's thread a little more, there's a summer concert series here in uptown Charlotte that's, like, $5.00-a-head to
go to and usually features some sort of has-been band. Well, I just saw the lineup for this year and holy crap, it's a who's who of
bland, mid-90's, WASP-y, post-grunge rock. Here's the lineup -
4/29 - Eve 6 (come on down, CiG!)
5/13 - Fuel (do they even still have any of their original members? And does it matter?)
6/3 - Tonic (just know them because they did that God-awful "If You Could Only See" song that still gets WAAAAAY too much airplay on the "new
rock" station here)
6/10 - Vertical Horizon (see my sentence above and insert whatever crappy song they were popular for)
Good to see these guys can still get work. At least for one night-per-year.

Sad but true: I've owned at least 1 album by three of those four bands (never liked Vertical Horizon).
If Eve 6 wasn't tomorrow but in like July or something, I'd actually consider going up to see them since my parents live in NC and
it'd be a chance to mingle with some of my fellow OOsters

And I would in turn make the sacrifice of going to see Eve 6 if it meant I could meet you in person, CiG.
