Volcano to preempt Raw/Smackdown?
Twitters from the Miz and Jerico indicate they can't get out of Europe due to the spreading Volcanic ash problem that is closing airports across
Europe. ABC Radio just ran a story from Tom Rivers at their foreign desk:
WRITE IN: VOLCANIC ASH...IS PINNING A BAND OF WWE PRO WRESTLERS CURRENTLY GRAPPLING THEIR WAY ACROSS EUROPE. WITH MORE...HERE'S ABC'S TOM
RIVERS AT THE FOREIGN DESK...
VERBATIM: (NATS) (no chance in hell played) DESPITE NO PLANES FLYING...THE SHOW - AS THEY SAY - MUST GO ON. AND WHAT NORMALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN A SHORT
HOP IN THE AIR FROM FRANCE TO BELFAST...TURNED INTO A 17-HOUR BONE-CRUSHING RUMBLE ON BUSES AND FERRIES FOR THE WRESTLERS DETERMINED TO STEP THROUGH
THE ROPES AND INTO THE RING. IT'S UNCLEAR THOUGH IF ANY OF THE GRAPPLERS WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE THE BELL COME MONDAY NIGHT...AT AN EVENT BACK HOME
IN NEW JERSEY. TOM RIVERS, ABC NEWS, LONDON.

RAW versus the Volcano
http://pwinsider.com/article/46815/the-european-volcano-may-blow-up-raw-on-monday-in-new-jersey.html?p=1
quote: With all flights out of the UK currently grounded until at least 7 a.m. tomorrow due to the lingering Icelandic volcanic ash, WWE is in
jeopardy of not getting all of their wrestlers back to the US for Monday's Raw in East Rutherford, NJ. WWE is trying to get the most-needed
talents out of the UK for Monday's show, which is also the go-home broadcast for the Extreme Rules PPV. The company plans on booking a charter
flight in case they can't get everyone out for the show. This has been one rough tour for the company.
http://pwinsider.com/article/46819/more-on-the-status-of-mondays-raw.html?p=1
quote: The Irish Times is reporting that "The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has extended the closure of Irish airspace until 1pm tomorrow due to the
deterioration in conditions caused by ash from an Icelandic volcano." They will reevaluate the situation again tomorrow.
The Raw roster is currently in Belfast, Northern Ireland for tonight's show in the city. As mentioned earlier WWE plans on booking a chartered
plane to get the talent to New Jersey for Monday's Raw. With the volcanic ash getting worse, who knows if they will be able to make it or not.
Scenarios seem to be:
A) WWE gets lucky and just BARELY gets the roster and crew to Jersey Monday afternoon or evening.
B) WWE charters a flight for their best and brightest and we get that Cena/Orton ironman rematch we've wanted! Note, how fucked up is it that
"Cena/Orton ironman" didn't work as a joke because we already had one?
C) Utter chaos as WWE attempts to hold an impromptu event in Ireland without their creative team and with a makeshift production crew.
Guess which one I'm pulling for?
Vote in the 12 Pack!

C!
I live in Liverpool and was working in Ireland last week - my flight on Thursday was cancelled and had to get a 7 hour ferry back yesterday.
It's not looking good for them as all Irish airspace is still closed.
They may be OK as the cloud is not over to the West so a quick escape may be possible but who knows. I will be gutted if the do the impromptu Raw in
Ireland as I'd have just stayed over there!

There's never been a truly "cancelled" RAW has there? Not even one where the re-ran an old show or did a clip show?
This is certainly an interesting situation. I've got friends in England who were suppose to come home yesterday but are grounded until Monday at
the earliest.
I'm a bit unaware of the effects of the ash, but if all commercial flights are grounded for safety reasons, isn't circumventing that by
booking a chartered flight relatively dangerous? Can't they just put Orton on a plane by himself and see what happens?

Option B, hopefully. Without the C-list cast on hand to chew up time and all the production BS cut back they might be forced to do something they
haven't done on RAW for years, and actually put on a wrestling show. Haven't seen it for a long time on Monday nights.
Sounds strangely refreshing when I think about it some more.

I love this idea. But let's also get Ziggler, Vickie and Lawler tickets for that plane.
Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think they did a clip show for Benoit when he died, as opposed to the live tribute shows like they did for Owen and
Eddie. Then when all the facts came out, the WWE resumed business on ECW the next night.

Yes, but that was still a show that was prepared for that occasion, with comments from the wrestlers in between the Benoit matches.
What I meant was has there ever been a time when they had no new content and just had to run something from their library? I don't think
it's ever happened before.
And punker, I like Ziggler. How about we put Orton, Cole and R-Truth on the plane instead?
This is getting kind of morbid now.

If I can drive in the snow, an airline pilot can drive in ash. It's the ice/lava that you need to watch out for.

Interesting -- Smackdown crew made it home, RAW is still stuck in the UK.
NOOB -- Volcanic ash in the jet intakes = crash.
Now the Writer monkeys, sure, fly them right through the ash.....

Yeah, SD crew's landed. Supposedly, if the Raw crew can't get back in time (which is looking more and more like it'll be the case),
they're going to use the Smackdown crew on Raw, and just do via-satellite bits with the Raw talents sprinkled through the show.
So, it's looking like we'll get Monday Night Smackdown tomorrow.

The WWE website posted a few tweets from the wrestlers. Here are a couple of my favorites:
Evan Bourne: "Dear Iceland, Have a little respect and use an ashtray! You re making my travel very difficult. Thx EB"
Maryse: "Yay we made it in ireland, Belfast better be HOT for the Diva of the Divas! Hahaha yeeeahhhhhh!!! Be sexy"
She really handles adversity well.

Potentially bigger problems (via PWInsider):quote: As we reported earlier, UK officials still don't know for sure when the ban will be lifted,
with some experts are saying that it will be at least mid-week before flights resume. Obviously, the volcano eruption in Iceland has thrown all
European air travel into a total mess.
There are European countries south of the UK that are starting to run flights, but obviously many of them are overbooked. WWE is going to have to
pull a lot of strings and need a lot of luck if they are going to get Raw stars back to the U.S. for Raw.
Well, getting back for Raw looks all
but impossible at this point. But if they're saying "at least mid-week," they need to start moving fast, because if "at least mid-week"
becomes "next weekend," they could be looking at the possibility of not even being back in time for the PPV.
Of course, they could try and move everyone to a more southern European city to fly out, but they better get moving, given the congestion.

Well they knew at 6pm UK time last night that all flights were grounded all day Monday, so they SHOULD have put everyone on a ferry or train to Europe
last night, ready for a flight by midday today.
HHH didn't make the tour at all, so at least he'll be about!!

I don't get why they didn't just hold Raw over here again. Tickets would sell out in a day or two anyway, they usually do for TV shows. If
they've already sent the production stuff back, just hire Sky Sport's stuff out, they've partnered with them for 20 years now!
Then get them to south europe by train tuesday morning, and fly home before the ash hits the US - coming your way by tonight, apparently.

They should just broadcast FROM the volcano. And they already have a ready-made guest host - Bjork.

Samoa Joe is at home until he loses at least 25lbs. I'd have said at least 50lbs if I was TNA. He's said not to be too impressed with
such a request.

If I hear the words "Triple H" and "Gauntlet Match" tonight, I will throw up.
On a side note, I am hoping this forces Raw to put on an actual WRESTLING show tonight, and it scores the biggest ratings in years. Maybe then, the
hollywood rejects that are the Raw writers will be fired...
Any chance Vince reaches out to Stone Cold and flies him out to show up unannounced tonight and help?
