A way to get rid of the (no longer a) spinner belt

So I have been thinking about this idea for a while and wanted to see what people here thought of it.
The way the scenario plays out in my head is a heel who can pull off serious and elitist, so someone like a Jericho or JBL- CM Punk would be excellent also, wins the WWE title on some PPV and comes out the next night on Raw wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase. They talk for a few minutes about the match the night before and eventually have the truck show the footage of them celebrating with the blinged out belt. After the camera is back on the champ he says that we have just witnessed the last time we will ever see him touch that belt because a champion of his calibur should not have to carry around a belt that looks like a child's toy. The champ would then indicate the briefcase and say something to the effect of the WWE championship belt will not be seen again until it can properly reflect the greatness of the man who holds it. Then for a couple months the champion carries around his briefcase and before title matches the ref holds up the whole briefcase instead of just the belt. One night on Raw they spend the whole night talking about the champ making a statement and finally he comes out with some other guy carrying a different briefcase. The champ would talk about it being a great day in WWE history because he is finally going to be presented with a suitable championship belt. Briefcase guy would then be introduced as some kind of official from WWE headquarters and the champ would have him present the new belt, which I would have be either the belt that Cena first won from JBL (which has been gone long enough a good portion of the audience probably hasn't seen it and which must still be around somewhere so they won't have to pay for a new belt) or a brand new belt with a kind of simple classic look.
The timeline could even be sped up and have the whole thing take maybe a month, but to me the length of the angle is less important than having the right guy doing it. For this angle to work the way I picture it you need someone who can not only cut a great promo but also put on amazing matches.
What do you all think?

I think this would work well. I like the idea.

And if they really want to push him to the top with lightning speed, this could work for Alberto Del rio, with his ring announcer always carrying the briefcase for him.

Plus, in about a year from now (when Cena is back as a face--if he ever really turns), you can have a disputed finish to a Del Rio-Cena match where Cena is announced as the champ, but Del Rio doesn't relinquish the new title. then you have Cena carrying around the spinner belt vs. Del Rio carrying around the other belt (I'm guessing you're referring to the Undisputed WWE Championship?).

In general, I think you have a really good idea here.

Yes the Undisputed title belt was the one I was thinking of.

Del Rio could work, and it does kind of seem like something his character would do anyway.

interesting, but with Cena now completely out of the title hunt while playing second fiddle to barrett, it owuld be good for Orton (please no) or HHH to finally give us a classic style belt again

I would welcome the return of the Undisputed Championship belt again, that was one of my favorites. From a merchandise perspective, it would be better for them to create a new belt, as the Spinner one would likely still sell pretty well just because kids would like it.

And Cena could always bring it back when he returns to the title picture...since we all know he will.
