I could support that, as long as he's confined to the music forum.

I like those videos. A little something fresh in hip hop. It has a suburban feeling to it. Almost like Straight Outta the Cul Du Sac instead of
Straight Outta Compton.

I had never heard of them outside of being in this year's Coachella lineup.
I liked it. It's some different shit.

Tyler (the guy from the first video) just signed to XL.
Earl (the guy from the second video) just turned 17 yesterday. He's incredibly good being that young.
There's a handful of guys in the WG, they all seem to have something special.

I'm all for freshness in hip hop. As a general rule, I pretty much don't like anything in hip hop that came out after 1996 or so. Now
anything from the beginning of hip hop until 1996?? I will listen to that shit 24/7.

Well, for all his (many, many, many, many, many) faults, the guy did seem to know every single solitary facet of the rap game.

You know, I knew there was a joke in there somewhere but I just couldn't quite pull it out. Then SJ just hit it out of the park.

Have to take just a bit of exception with this. I mean, hate to say it but there have been a few decent things after 96'. One of the big glaring
examples is the rise of Eminem.
Hate him if you like but very few rappers can really touch him for lyrical flow or content. A lot of the stuff he has rapped about hasn't been
touched upon by any one else. I am not saying his full body of work has been great but let's be honest, Eminem could be on a list of the top
100, 50, or 10 rappers of all time easily.

Yeah, I'm with you on Eminem. His first few years were insane. And now that you mention it, "The Chronic 2000" would have to be one of my
favorite rap albums ever. So it definitely hasn't been all bad.
I mainly just meant that a lot of the stuff I loved when I was in my biggest hip hop phase (anything by Wu-Tang, or any of its individual members,
Cypress Hill, Mobb Deep, Outkast, etc.) was at it's strongest between, say, 1994 and, really, 1998 or so. Though I know Outkast easily kept it
strong and arguably improved post-1998.
Then you get into the old school stuff (DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, NWA, KRS-One, EPMD)....you really can't go wrong with any of that.

Am I in the minority in thinking that Eminem was perhaps at his lyrical best on his most recent album (Recovery)? His early stuff was more raw, more
"pushing the limits" and whatnot, which is I think why a handful of fans shit all over his current stuff. He's matured in his work over the
years, and a lot of people don't like that, but I think that has allowed him to grow lyrically. IMO, he's taken some of the shock value
out of his music, but has countered that by perfecting his rhymes and metaphors.
On Odd Future: Earl has some insane lyrics if you actually try to listen to what they're saying. Just his flow alone though might make him my
favorite member of the group.
I think that's one of the main problem points in current rap. Cleverness in the lyrics has taken a back seat to all the other selling points.
