SmackDown 8-12-11

From The Examiner:

quote:
Below are this weeks WWE Smackdown results, which were taped last night in Sacramento, CA. The show will air this Friday on SyFy.

-Triple H comes to the ring and announces Randy Orton vs. The Great Khali, Daniel Bryan vs. Alberto Del Rio and Cody Rhodes vs. Ezekiel Jackson for later tonight. Christina comes to the ring and wants HHH to change his match at Summer Slam. HHH blows Christian off and says he will be in action right now.

-Sheamus defeats World Heavyweight Champion Christian via count out when Christian simply walks off.

-Natalya and Beth Phoenix defeat AJ and Kaitlyn via pin fall when Beth pinned AJ.

-Sin Cara defeats Tyson Kidd via pin fall.

-Alberto Del Rio defeats Daniel Bryan via submission. After the match, Wade Barrett attached Bryan.

-Cody Rhodes defeats Ezekiel Jackson via pin fall to win the Intercontinental Championship.

-Mark Henry defeats Johnny Curtis via pin fall. After the match, Sheamus came to the ring and had a stare down with Henry.

-Randy Orton defeats The Great Khali via pin fall. After the match, Christian comes to the ring and talks trash to Orton.

Sin Cara's back, already? I thought he had a couple more weeks. About the only worthwhile things I see are potentially Beth & Natalya kicking ass, a little furthering of the Bryan-Barrett match/feud, and Cody has the IC Title. The rest looks like a big steaming pile.

Supposedly, Hunico from FCW is working under the Sin Cara mask until Mystico is able to return.

Man, Zeke really had the most underwhelming, unmemorable IC title run in recent history, and that's really saying something. Good for Cody, though, he should have the belt anyway.

There is some rumors that the fake Sin Cara will be exposed by the returning real Sin Cara as part of a big storyline.

There is history between the two wrestlers as Hunico wrestled as Mystico in Mexico for smaller promotions, but then CMLL created Mistico and then sued Hunico from calling himself Mystico. Or something like that.

Yeah, that sounds like a whole lot of boring. But who knows, last week's show was pretty good.

I'm enjoying Tyson Kidd getting some good Smackdown face time, even if it is as a jobber to the stars. His match against Dan Bryan last week was really good.

And agreed on the goodness of Cody Rhodes winning the IC title, as if there's any question to that. Seriously, what the fuck were they thinking putting it on Zeke?

Since at this point all I really care about is Christian keeping the title off Orton and AJ/Kaitlyn on SD, I have to be a bit puzzled as to what they did with the divas...

Rather than squash the Chick Busters (AJ/Kaitlyn) they should have just has a 1 on 1 match of Kaitlyn vs. Nattie. Why bring Beth in for any reason at this point? She's dealing with Kelly Kelly and has no real reason to be fighting on SD. I know SS is this weekend but I would have rather just seen Beth and AJ in the corner of their friends than make it a squash tag match that you could have set up for down the road, and made it more competitive. Does anyone think that AJ/Kelly Kelly would fare any better against Nattie/Beth? Of course not. It made more sense for Kaitlyn to be the "ace in the hole" for AJ to bring in to help against the powerhouses... Then again, I'm probably thinking about the diva storyline more than the WWE ever would....

They're going to have a hell of a time getting that storyline over if Mistico's command of English is as poor as reported. Which prompts the question: if Hunico can do Sin Cara's moves and speak English a lot better, what do they need Mistico for?

Because Mexico knows that it's The legendary Mistico under the mask. It would have been like calling Hulk Hogan something else when he went to wcw in 93: everyone still would have known it was Hulk, and tuned in because of it. I thought they'd put Averno under the mask...

Mistico wasn't under the mask for very long, and this sort of angle has been run in Mexico before (with these same guys) anyway. Hunico cuts a promo saying that he was the "real" Sin Cara all along, and says that WWE management basically thinks all luchadores are the same - give 'em a mask and they are interchangeable. Now he's here to show that he's the real deal. If they don't future-endeavor Mistico, then have them go head-to-head.

Actually, that's not bad. Mistico would need a mouthpiece for the English-speaking crowd, though. What's Armando Alejandro Estrada doing these days?

I thought Cody was already IC-ready a year back when he was still "dashing", and he was involved in a 4-way feud with, IIRC, Kofi, Dolph and Drew(?).

Are there any midcard face challengers for Cody besides Zeke asking for his rematch? A newly-turned Ted DiBiase, a re-"debuting" Justin Gabriel, Sin Cara? I'd root for Yoshi Tatsu but that ain't happening. Maybe debut a Seth Rollins or Jon Moxley, or someone new.

OR..

wait for it..

Woo Woo Woo You Know It, Bro.. Zack Ryder.

Count me in on the Tyson Kidd bandwagon. I think him having a big man bodyguard would be a nice character hook, ala Shawn-Diesel. Maybe Brodus Clay? Whatever happened to that guy who was Kidd's bodyguard for awhile?

When is Kharma due back? I hope the payoff to the Dominant Divas storyline is a Triple Threat at WM28 with Kharma, Beth, and Natalya.

Also, what was Christian's big announcement?

Hunico replacing Sin Cara will bomb big time. The Mexican fans will call bullshit on it. I mean if you can just put anybody under a mask - why even use legit lucha's, and not just put Tyson Kidd or Evan Bourne under a lucha mask?

Hunico has been in developmental for a year plus and the wwe just didn't call him up and give him the Sin Cara push - they signed Mistico because they wanted Mistico's legitimacy and star power already established in Mexico.

Watching the "Sin Cara" match from this weeks SD! it's obvious that the real Sin Cara will come back because the announcers were commenting on how much bigger he was, how he had so many new moves and how he was having trouble with his mask - all insinuating that there is more to this story.

Hunico looked good in the match - and is a bit bigger and taller than Mistico. I could see him ending up with the bigger push after the Sin Cara vs Sin Cara feud.

Ryder and Cody could have some good matches, but with Ryder technically being a Raw star I don't know if they'd be willing to pull the trigger on that. I think they'll let Cody sit on the belt for a few months but if you're looking ahead to the long term, I think Gabriel is the safest bet for the next eventual champion.
