OOfficial Ratings/Discussion Thread for: RAW (August 15, 2011)
OO Nation: All discussion pertaining to RAW (airing August 15, 2011) should be done in this thread. It will remain pinned at the top of the
Current Events section for the remainder of the week. In discussing the program, we'd love it if you shared your numerical rating for
the show (from a low of 0.0 to a high of 5.0, in any increment of one-tenth of a point). For full details on the ratings scale and how to join in on
this informal "Battle of the Brands," please be sure to check out the OOfficial
Guidelines for TV Ratings/Discussion Threads.
Tonight on RAW: we ought to be treated to some of the answers raised by last night's PPV... what was Stephanie up to?... what of
HHH's shitty refereeing, that cost John Cena the title?... why did Kevin Nash show up, costing CM Punk the title?... did Alberto del Rio follow
the proper procedure when he cashed in MitB to become the new champ (re: he never allowed Punk to get back up to his feet, as has been required in all
past MitB cash-ins)?...
And then, because of tonight's announced main event, there's a whole other question of if you sort this all out before or after Rey
Mysterio's title shot against del Rio.... if you sort it out before, then you open up a can of worms (TWO cans of worms) because there are
likely to be 3 #1 contenders once Punk and Cena make their cases... it wouldn't surprise me to see this happen, so that the main event turns
into a Fatal Fourway; as at the PPV, it's a big-ass match that serves the double purpose of (1) being a very entertaining combination of guys
and (2) mostly, it allows Mysterio to "hide" and do less to protect his injured knee... the alternative would be to do an angle to write Mysterio
out if his injury is bad enough to require surgery...
In short, there are a ton of moving parts and possibilities for an exciting evening of rasslin'... you could conceivably have any one of 4 guys
come out of tonight with the title, and have it be as a result of any one of 3 non-wrestler characters... my personal preference (short of nullifying
last night's results due to the various unfair antics) would be for del Rio to look strong against Rey, to give his reign a solid launch; then
you keep the Cena/Punk stuff compartmentalized as they both want del Rio and the title, but have to go through each other to get it, since
this'll obviously be a 3-way match at the next PPV (also, this is where you can continue to cool subplots with HHH and Stephanie and Nash)...
Other stuff is off in the far distance in terms of interest level: Ziggler/Riley was demoted to dark match status at SummerSlam (rightfully so), but
is clearly still a going concern unless they shift gears tonight to make it Ziggler/Kofi for the US Title... pending Rey's injury status, such
gear shifting may become necessary to make sure all the promising underneath guys (Miz, Truth, Kofi, Morrison, Swagger, Bourne, et al) are featured
properly, instead of going in circles... Kelly Kelly retained the women's title in flukey fashion last night, but was dominated by Beth Phoenix
in the match, so a rematch could be in order, or Beth's partner in badassery, Natalya, could get next dibs; either way, the story is that
Kelly's a lucky little Barbie doll, and it's only a matter of when (not if) her luck runs out... if it's true that HHH is
prioritizing tag team wrestling again, he can feel free to start any time; reminding us that Otunga/McGuillicutty are the champs would be a good first
move... if there's ever to be closure on the Virtual GM, something needs to happen there, pronto; still having the podium there every week, and
having ZERO chime-ins in the past 6 weeks is just kinda awkward...
I guess last night's commentary team means any hopes of ever having a Cole-less TV Viewing Experience have been dashed... [oddly, JR even
tweeted that he was calling SummerSlam; but I guess a last second decision was made to the contrary]... all we can hope is that somebody wises up and
tells him to keep the dial at 3 or below, because he's still a major distraction (in a bad way) from the core product... oh well....
The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Let your voice be heard and your thoughts on Brand Supremacy be known. Don't wait till after 11pm to post,
either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

Be sure to get the recap up as soon as possible. From the sounds of things, no one will be watching tonight.

Hopefully they switch over to the Spanish announce team for the match. I'd much rather have guys I can't understand than guys I
can't understand why they have jobs.

I don't know if they switched the way they broadcast the audio, but years ago I could play with the audio settings on my computer and zero out
the announcers but still get the crowd and in-ring noise. Can't seem to do that anymore though.

Pwned.
Also, why is Rey Mysterio anywhere near any main event right now? I mean, he isn't just a charismaless, steroid-filled 170 lbs package of
nothing, he's an injured, charismaless, steroid-filled 170 lbs package of nothing

So...Kevin Nash wins the title at some point and loses it to Triple H via fingerpoke at some point in time during this angle, right?

ADR's promo attempt was sad. The crowd wasn't feeling him at all, he rambled... What a boring guy ADR is. Just plain boring. And him
facing Rey in the main event? Sounds boring.
The Miz/Subway segment was pointless in every definition of the word. Are live crowds expected to get behind stuff like this? Miz is a heel, and
he's talking about Subway, so the fans are supposed to treat Subway and Jared as the faces and cheer them? That's not exactly how it
works...

Exactly this.
HHH and ADR cut their promos, making no new advancements at all. Nash will be here tonight? Yea, we kind of expected that already. ADR is facing
Mysterio? Yea, we've known about that for about a week.
Truth vs. Morrison was your average Raw match. Nothing great, but nothing horrible. Again, no advancements on their feud.
Miz wants to promote Subway, apparently more than he wants to promote himself, or the fact that he wasn't set to wrestle at "the biggest event
of the summer" until minutes before the event started.
Kelly/Eve vs. Bellas was another meaningless affair, although that's usually the case whenever it's a divas match. Beth and Nattie
could've at least took out Eve after the match to get under Kelly's skin, but no. They walk onto the stage after the match and applaud.
That'll sure irritate Kelly to no end.
I hope the show picks up during the second hour.
EDIT: omg kevin nash wtf i thought he was dead lol

I think it just picked up. As a result of (drumroll) CM Punk.
Also, is it THAT hard to think that Stephanie was the one who sent the text?

Nash was high or something. His promo made no sense - and then Punk vs Nash on the mic was just reciting lines badly.
WWE writers are WAY too infatuated with twitter. It's like Stephanie just discovered it and thinks getting something trending is the bees
knees.
I was hoping #subwaysucks would have trended.

It makes more sense for Stephanie to have been the one to send the text, but Lauranitis has more of a motivation to have done it. I fully expect the
big "cliffhanger" to be the reveal of which one of them actually did it (or both in cahoots)

You're right. I wouldn't be surprised if Miz called out Jared for a match next week. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
Like moose said, Punk did great as usual, while Nash floundered. He didn't seem to know what to say or how to respond to the points Punk was
making. He was just lost.
Alex Riley vs. Jack Swagger was disappointing, but what can you expect from an Alex Riley match? Dolph was entertaining on commentary, though. It was
fun to listen to him and Vickie rather than Cole for an entire match. The hat gag was harmless, but Riley ruined the ending of the match by sucking.

Well, it picked up during Punk's verbal dissection of Nash, didn't it?
And that horrible, horrible botch that Swagger and Riley pulled off during Swagger's finisher was quite hilarious and possibly the second most
entertaining part of the show so far.
