OOfficial Ratings/Discussion Thread for: Impact Wrestling (August 18, 2011)
Good god, why even tease Flair vs Hulk, Sting vs Hulk or Sting vs Flair?
And what discerning fans in the Impact zone."yay, I want to see the worst match of the year!"

Gauntlet match was fun and a good showcase, but doesn't seem to make the division look great by having everyone get pinned in 3 minutes or less.
And that Sorensen guy's gimmick is really just holding a football.
And why would Bischoff care whether or not ODB and Jackie fought dirty? But you've got to admire ODB. She gets fired and sees no reason at all
to change her character or moveset.
That was a nice new move by Joe. I guess I'm willing to ignore how dumb this angle is if it means Joe is going to destroy worthless craps like
Dvon and Steiner.
And what was that weirdness with Mickie and Hebner?
Wait, did Tenay just say that the final four will just have 2 singles matches and whoever has the most points wins? What fucking stupidity. Why not
just a KOTR style tourney instead of some math shenanigans? I wouldn't be surprised if they were planning to have someone win the whole thing
when Joe gets Crimson disqualified.

Crismon did a pretty good job on the stick, I thought. I don't know why Gunner had to get taken out like a bitch though. Flair was awesome, but
I really don't want to see him wrestle again. Even if he's got sweet abs.

Overall, I thought this was a pretty watchable show.
Joe is still being wasted, but it was nice to see him kick ass. He should have attacked Pope when he came out, though. Pope is in BFG so it would
have made sense, and Joe looked like a bit of a pussy backing off to Devon's kids and the Pope.
The other BFG match was good, up until the ending. It was obvious Jerry Lynn would interfere, which makes no sense at all. They had him fight RVD a
month ago -- do we need to see this feud anymore? BFG was good in the beginning because you'd get clean wins and losses -- now it seems like
they are trying to protect guys and justify their losses. It's just not necessary.
Great to see Flair again, but don't need to see Stink-Hogan fight.
The Crimson/Angle thing was the best part of the night, IMO. Great promo by Crimson, perhaps the first time he's connected with the audience
and at least somewhat justified this push he's getting.
I understand why they put the tag titles on Los Mexicanos, but it's really a shame. Not only do they suck, but the tag division is really
floundering. I assume they are going to move Storm/Roode into singles ranks (which is a good move), but the tag division is empty right now.
It's funny, considering that the tag division was one of the real strengths of TNA about 6 months ago. There were a lot of dedicated tag teams
six months ago, and now the only ones that come to mind (other than beer money) are the mexicans and the British Invasion. And when you think about
the best of 5 series between Beer Money and the MCMGs, it's sad to see the tag titles change hands in such a predictable match.
Like I said, a watchable show. not great, by any means, but watchable.

Liked seeing Flair back, but aside from the Crimson/Angle promo, I thought everything else was forgettable.
Anyone who gets there hopes up that Joe will do anything of consequence, is wasting their time. In typical TNA fashion they will forget about him
again in a couple of weeks.
It was criminal to see the tag belts put on Los Mexicanos. Why because they have aligned themselves with Jeff and Karen Jarrett? This might be an
all time low for the tag team division in TNA.
Also, is anyone else getting the feeling that RVD wouldn't job out to God himself? And I'm not referring to Ric Flair.

Once again, Sting started off a promo in "insane" mode, only to end up having a nice, normal (or as normal as it gets) conversation with Flair. I
really wish they'd pick a side and stick to it. Mainly so I can get back to marking out for Sting's old-school-style facepaint he was
rocking before he went 50% insane.

Yes, between that and Flair saying "I never liked that rafters gimmick" they seemed to be trying to mimic the worked shoots from WWE.
Not sure why they seem to have suddenly lost faith in Anderson and forced this Angle turn, but it's kind of annoying to see Angle flip flop like
this. Right now, his arc is this:
2009-2010: "I'm the godfather of the mem. I deserve respect. Fuck these kids.
2nd half of 2010: "I was wrong. I love these kids."
Bfg 2010 until last month: "I hate Hogan. I love Dixie. I hate Jarrett."
Now: "I love Hogan. I hate Dixie. I deserve respect. Fuck these kids."
And I agree that I don't see things getting much better for Joe. This is only the umpteenth time that they've given up on whatever they
were doing for him (if they were doing anything) and said "Fuck it. Let's make him an uncontrollable monster for 2 months while we try to think
of something new."

First off, kudos to Spike's website for having the episode up Friday afternoon. I hope that becomes the norm.
I really enjoyed the show. Maybe it wasn't always what I wanted it to be, but mostly I liked what it was.
My fantasy booking has a combination of Joe and Kurt taking out guys in the BFG, and different guys losing points via DQ... then maybe on the final
show before the ppv Joe wins a match to put his point total at zero, which qualifies him as the fourth competitor at the ppv. He would then win his
match at the ppv via submission, and cause a DQ in the other match so that he wins the series with his 10 points. I like this idea despite the OMG!
~SWERVE!! of a three-month long series promoted under the banner "Wrestling Matters" ends in a way that wins/losses and points didn't matter.

Yeah, they dropped that last week, I commented on it too, and I was surprised nobody else seemed to chime in. I'm HOPING that nothing stupid
will happen, but I'm expecting that something will.
Good to see Joe on the mic kicking some promo ass. Tentatively hopeful....
Angle/Crimson was solid, curious how next week plays. Do they give up the undefeated streak?
Great to see Flair, HORRIBLE to hear him talk about a match. Pissed that they're wasting time teasing a hogan-sting match.
X division gauntlet should have gone longer, but did a nice job with what it had. Told some stories, established Kid Kash as a dickhead heel along
with Aeries in the division.
I'm not thrilled at the tag title change... but again, tentatively hopeful. Jarrets & Mexican America can pull in as many boos as they want in
the US, so thats not a horrible thing. I wish they'd give Hernandez a mic more and have his Chavo-wannabe sidekick shut up. His voice annoys
the shit out of me.
As for tag challengers, there's still Beer Money, British Invasion, The MCMG when Sabin is back (early fall?). I may be MAJORLY stretching....
but if the expected AJ/Daniels match happens at BFG, maybe they tag up again after a respectful hard fought match? Or maybe Kaz/AJ or Kaz/Daniels?
Could be interesting...
We'll see how next week plays out.

Damn.... good call FF.
And to think, I just spent 2 hours the other day in the Fantasy Board on a TNA split.... citing the as a tag team.
If they play up Jesse Neal's military background, it could be an interesting feud with Mexican America.

Anybody shocked that Alex Shelley was the first elimination? Or was that just me? I mean, I guess it helps get the other guys over, but it still
seemed odd. It would have been nice had Tenay and Taz done a better job of putting over the guy (can't even remember his name) that beat
Shelley.
Agreed on letting Hernandez (or Sarita or Rosita, for that matter) have more mic time and cutting off Anarquia. He just sounds like the stereotypical
Mexican - like he's doing a voice-over for Cheech & Chong.
I love(d) Jerry Lynn - especially when he was feuding with RVD back in ECW - but this shit is fucking stupid.
No Velvet this week...
And, what - Winter is now supposed to be a vampire, or something? :sigh: Whatever, I guess.
Oh yeah - I thought Cookie and Robbie E were done after last week. And she accompanied him this week? No - it's not like I really care,
but did I miss something?

I think they just wanted to draw it out a little longer. Personally, I'm hoping this leads to Cookie going back to her real name (which escapes
me at the moment) because she seems like she could really be hot if she dropped the Jersey Shore stupidity.

Two of the big matches they are pushing are Sting/Flair and Lynn/RVD. Apparently it's 1998.
I thought Crimson held his own in the segment with Angle. I don't care for him, but that showed me something. If, or when, he has a bad match
with Angle, then I'll probably go back to wanting him to disappear.
To someone's point, it's kind of shocking how badly the tag division has fallen by the wayside. It's like TNA just stops caring
about one thing, and completely neglects it in the process. Ink Inc hasn't been around since May. The last two ppv title matches were a
completely random one against the British Invasion, and a thrown together one against Mexican America. Before that, it was Matt Hardy and Chris
Harris. It's not as dire as the WWE division, but it's pretty bleak. I have no idea who fights for the belts next.
I watched the last two shows back to back, and I don't remember a time when there were two terrible main events in a row like that. The tag
title match wasn't bad, it was just criminally short.
And fuck Anderson, I hope he vanishes for a year.
Visit my site: www.BearcatsBlog.com. Pretend to care.
