How to Sabotage Your Career 2.0 -- By Sin Cara/Mistico
According to reports on some web sites, Hunico played the Sin Cara character at Tuesday's tapings and didn't exactly impress as they had
to tape his match with Slater twice. And now I am reading that WWE sent Mistico home from those tapings and Hunico is gonna be the permanent Sin
Cara.
How many things went wrong for Sin Cara considering the hype he had coming in? Seems like it was a tough transition probably made worse by sitting
there looking at Del Rio who is the golden child that came over from Mexico before you.

For me, this is the closest thing they've had to bringing a "name" across since Goldberg - there is no WCW / ECW for them to raid now, nobody
is jumping from TNA, they're making MOST people go to FCW first... maybe it was just too much to ask of a guy that doesn't speak
English.
But that begs the question - WHY doesn't he speak English if it's such an important part of the job?
Case in point - I know most of you don't like soccer comparisons BUT - in 2008 Engalnd appointed Fabio Capello, an Italian, as our national
coach. In his FIRST interview, he admitted that he didn't speak English because he'd never needed to, but assured everyone that the NEXT
time we saw him, in two months time, he would speak it.
He did.
Mistico knew well in advance he was coming over - he already knew how to wrestle, so why hasn't he learnt the language?
Maybe he doesn't care. He knows he can go back to Mexico in the worst case. Best case, they keep pushing him to an IC title and keep him around
for a year and pay him a daft amount of money.

Nah, I think the English issue was the least of his problems. A wrestler can get over without talking -- Undertaker and Kane both did. Hell, Sin
Cara did too.
The main problem for me was that he wasn't adapting quickly to the American style, and the WWE wrestlers couldn't adapt to him. The only
one who probably could have meshed well with him was Rey Mysterio, but they're basically the same character and both faces. If WWE could have
brought over some real Luche Libre wrestlers with him to keep him company AND work with him, then things may have worked out better, and the English
may have come later. In time he could have worked with Del Rio, but he's on a different plane right now.
The English issue may have been a problem with him relating to other wrestlers, though. He's gotten a rep for being difficult and arrogant,
when it's possible he's just self-conscious over the language barrier. We also can't discount the steroid positive, and that he
broke protocol by talking about it to a journalist.
In any case, it sucks for all involved. Hunico isn't lighting the world on fire with his performances either, so now they've got a guy
who can sell merc but can't be trusted in the ring. It's a tough spot for WWE to be in.

I think this is a kind of a tale of two misteps going on here;
1) For as much as we slag the WWE for sending proven talents like CM Punk or Daniel Bryan to the likes of OVW or FCW, it is a good place to acclimate
to the WWE's style and expectations. Mystico was coming in with an entirely different style, as I believe Jericho wrote that in Mexico you work
the left side of the body, whereas in North America and many other places you work the right. Mystico could probably have used some time to get a bit
more used to both the non-Mexican style, and the WWE style/expectations.
Maybe no FCW was one of his contract demands, maybe the WWE saw cash and rushed him, either way he never seemed comfortable in one of their rings.
2) I don't know that you can entirely blame the WWE as there has to be a point of personal responsibility where he should be saying to them that
he's having trouble. The WWE's grueling road schedule is probably a lonely enough place, one made worse by the fact that the guy
doesn't speak any English and came in with a huge push and rep that not even big name domestic indy guys got. Throw in the steroid bust and him
going into full on public denial which probably made him all the more less endearing to the front office.
I think the WWE was looking at a probably somewhat expensive problem (I'm betting he came in at a better than average starting salary), but one
that thankfully offered an out because of the whole masked nature of the character, and lets face it... not being a white guy as I still believe the
vast majority of caucasians have a hard time telling other ethnithcities apart. Even his biggest fans aren't really the general public, but
rahter kids who may not notice the slight differences in musculature and size. This isn't fake Undertaker or the Ultimate Warrior coming back
minus the roids where everyone is going to speculate about how different he looks. Mystico as Sin Carra probably only made about 20 appearances on WWE
tv in total, has no distinctive tatoo's, is olive skinned and wears a mask.... sounds easy enough to pull another Doink the Clown to me, and
probably to the WWE as well.
So hopefully the WWE takes the time to rectify things with Sin Carra and encourage him to do a stint in FCW and learn English while he's down
there. Here's also hoping that Mystico swallows his pride and asks for that opportunity with the aim of further bettering himself.
If the WWE wanted to they could have Hunico start acting more heelish and cheating to win and all that kind of stuff... not an enormous push, just
something fairly present and lower midcard for 8 weeks... Mystico getting a chance to practice 5 days a week on both his style and English should be
better equipped after a two month stint down there and could come back as a face Sin Carra and with a ready made feud....
Bonus, the WWE gets two masked Mexican wrestlers for the price of one as Hunico could adopt a new name and costume when this is over.

I wonder where this leaves that guy in Mexico they signed to be a big feud for Sin Cara? Didn't he lose his mask or something just because WWE
was going to bring him up?

I've heard this mentioned a few times but I can't work out how it is causing a lot of his botches - I don't see how it effects for
example springing up on to the top rope for his c4 - he just looks clumsy. I suppose it could be the bigger wwe ring as well?
Thinking about it one of the last times WWE devoted substantial time to junior heavyweight style wrestling they brought in a lot of guys together
(michinoku et al) and let them work together so perhaps there is something to the need to adjust styles.

Other way around. To be honest, I can't think of any reason why it's different in the Lucha style. Working the left seems to be easier for
those who are right-handed.

Wait, I thought that guy was Hunico who is the substitute Sin Cara.

If you get used to doing things a certain way, having to do them the opposite way is really difficult. Especially if youre jumping to your favourite
side and then having to learn to balance powering off the other foot, its really difficult! I did some lucha training while I was in LA and was
fucking horrible because of the switch of sides thing. It's so much more of a mindfuck than you could ever imagine.
