Powers and Under the Dome tv series
Just read an article on Grantland saying that Stephen King and Spielberg are turning Under the Dome (the Simpsons movie as a thousand page
psychological horror thriller) into a tv series for Showtime.
At the bottom of the article was a quick mention that Powers (graphic novel about cops investigating superhero crime) is also being turned into a
series.
Personally, much as I love Stephen King and enjoyed that book, I'm way more excited for Powers. It has way more source material and probably
more potential for brand new stories. Under the Dome can obviously be expanded more than the book, but I'm not sure how much longer. And,
knowing Hollywood, I wouldn't be surprised if they spent way too much time introducing and focusing on some shadowy government agency
Still, these are 2 really exciting developments. I'm looking forward to seeing how they turn out.

Hopefully they can improve on the shitty ending of Dome....
The movie "Idiocracy" was really a documentary.

Wait...something by Stephen King had a shitty ending? That's not possible. His endings are always so brilliant. I mean...the Langoliers? It? The
Stand? Brilliant...I tells ya.

Come on, the Langoliers is just a short story. And Under the Dome was based on the Simpsons movie so what could he do about the end?*
Now, if you were to criticize the end of Needful Things, I couldn't argue. Problem is he puts his characters into these impossible situations
against godlike creatures, so then there has to be some crazy deux es machina (literal translation-crazy bullshit) to save the day.
At least Dark Tower had a decent ending.
*Yeah, that ending was not good. Everything having to do with the townsfolk was good, but not hat.

I'm not sure what to make of the casting so far for Powers. For something that was very noirish in tone, it all seems a bit...light. Jason
Patric as Walker could work, but I haven't seen that much with him in it. He was a good funny villain in The Losers though. A primarily comedic
actress as Deena(Lucy Punch), and a model as Retro Girl(yeah, she shows up dead, so doesn't have much to do, but there'd presumably be
flashbacks). Titus Welliver (Jacob's brother in Lost) as Triphammer is the only one I have any definite faith in for their part. Then again,
it's a pilot, so they might recast if it gets picked up?

Under the Dome was a pretty good novel and for it being so long the pages flew by. I think the ending was more Superfriends or Star Trek the original
series than Simpsons, but everything leading up to that downer was pretty great.

Powers could be interesting, and this would be one time where I would be okay with them veering from the source material as Powers seemed to
continually get more and more out there in terms of its scope... I could see something more akin to the first few trades worth of Powers working as
they embrace a little more of the police side instead of the hero or monkeys f*cking side of the book... not saying don't ultimately have it
there, but reign it in a bit and kind of tease it out... like have Walkers past kind of be the big cliff hanger at the end of the first season after
being hinted at for a while... no space cops!
