Favorite NFL video game franchise?
This topic is here for several reasons. One, football season is back. Two, admit or not you've played probably half of these games. And finally,
the NFL/EA exclusive contract that started in 2005 will expire in 2012. Giving other franchises another shot at coming back.
On one hand you have Sega/ESPN NFL 2K series. This is the series that caused initally a lot of this mess. Back in 2004, ESPN 2K5 came out at the
starting price of 20$ while Madden was 50. The other problem was, practically every reviewer on the planet proclaimed 2K5 the superior game. In order
to nip this in the bud, EA purchased an exclusive deal until 2012 killing any momentum competitors may have had.
The other reason I bring into some of the more classic franchises into the mix is becasue of PSN/XBL. Remember NBA JAM? NFL Blitz remake as a download
for PSN XBL game could be huge. It was everythign you loved about arcade games. Fast, over the top, awesome.
So with the potential of all of these franchises possibly coming back in 2-3 years, whats your favorite growing up? Madden? 2K? Blitz? Old school
Techmo? I understand there are other possiblites, but c'mon, these are more than likley the top 4 choices anyway.

I'm saying Madden by default since it's been the end all, be all for me pretty much since that deal in 2005. And, of course, there were
some classic Madden's in the early-to-mid-90's as well.
But Blitz was the fucking shit back in the day.
And Techmo was the fucking shit before then.
What was the football game on Playstation back around 1999-2000? Gameday? I used to have some fun with that one.

Yeah, gotta go Madden. Madden's simply been the definitive franchise for video game football for basically as long as I've played video
games (Madden 94 was the first one I owned, on Sega Genesis).
That said, I do have very vague memories of playing Tecmo Bowl/Tecmo Super Bowl at my cousin's house at a young age, and I still play it on Wii
Virtual Console every once in a while.
I pissed away many quarters at my local arcade on Blitz, even as recently as 2009 on the combo NFL Blitz 2000/NBA Showtime machine until the arcade
closed down. I would love to see that make a comeback.
2K...yeah, 2K5 was good, but in spite of reviews I never thought it was superior to Madden, and frankly have a tough time believing it would've
ever sold decently if it hadn't been $20 from day one. I also remember the couple of 2K installments that I played prior to 2K5 sucking
hard.
For Blitz fans, Madden NFL Arcade (on XBL and I have to assume PSN too) is not bad. Not nearly as fast or over-the-top as Blitz, but a similar style
(5-on-5, QB/RB/2 WR/OL vs DL/LB/2 CB/S wide open arcade-style gameplay). And if you think Michael Vick is broken in real Madden, try him in an Arcade
game where he has as much speed as the fastest WR or DB, and only 5 defensive players spread out on the field.
But getting back to the point, while I absolutely hope that EA's exclusivity doesn't continue and we can get new editions of Blitz and/or
2K or whoever else thinks they can make a good NFL game, Madden's the standard-bearer.

Since Madden has done pretty much done jack shit as far as adding things in the last 3 games, I seriously hope other companies can step in a make them
get off they're asses

Maybe I'd still be playing football games if my experience didn't start and end with Troy Aikman NFL Football for SNES. I seemed to
remember liking it; and there was a certain amount of team management and money spending I enjoyed, too.

I voted for Techmo because it is the best I played of the four listed (no mabey?), but for nostalgia my two favorite football games were the Atari
football arcade with the giant roller ball and "X" and "O" as players. My brother and I would spend out allowance every week playing that at the
pizzeria around the corner from our house. The other is Atari 2600 football, which was 4 on 4 with the little just moving their legs as they ran.
Both game plays sucked, and the graphics were horrible, but I had more fun playing them than any other football game.
The movie "Idiocracy" was really a documentary.

The constant misspelling of 'Tecmo' is irking my Nintendo Power-y, nerdy fandom like a Daniel Bryan / Bryan Danielson thing would a
wrestling fan.

No Joe Montana Football?
What's the deal with the misspelling of "Tecmo" anyways?
I voted Madden. I loved Tecmo Bowl, but Madden on Genesis blew me away. And then on SNES with the multitap, it was awesome.
Remember when Sony's Gameday was the Madden-killer for like a year or two?

I was all set to voice my video game nerd anger at this, only to have been beat to it. My only guess: it's getting confused with mid-90's
developer Technos (who actually did some solid stuff back in the day).
And I gotta say Madden. Tecmo Bowl is indeed awesome, and I still play it on the Wii virtual console to this day, but I've wasted way, way more
hours of my life playing Madden on PS2/Gamecube/PS3/Wii (especially Wii).

What about NFL Street?
I'll be the lone voice for NFL Blitz I guess. It's just much easier to pick up and play, no matter who you are. I know Madden is deeper
and more strategic etc, but I'd rather play Blitz and light people up, than learn entire playbooks.

I was a huge fan of NFL Gameday over Madden back in the day, but once EA crushed the competition my yearly debate simply boiled down to Madden or
NCAA. I still go with Madden, but from what I've heard, the 2K series were infinitely better, so I like the rest of you am hoping that once
EA's deal expires, we'll get some more titles to choose from.
That said, I FUCKING LOVED NFL BLITZ! It was like the 2nd coming of
