OOfficial Ratings/Discussion Thread for: SmackDown (September 16, 2011)
OO Nation: All discussion pertaining to SmackDown (airing September 16, 2011) should be done in this thread. It will remain pinned at the top of
the Current Events section for the remainder of the week. In discussing the program, we'd love it if you shared your numerical rating
for the show (from a low of 0.0 to a high of 5.0, in any increment of one-tenth of a point). For full details on the ratings scale and how to join in
on this informal "Battle of the Brands," please be sure to check out the OOfficial
Guidelines for TV Ratings/Discussion Threads.
Tonight on SmackDown: for the second time in 3 weeks, SmackDown will make use of Stunt Casting in an attempt to counteract RAW's
plummeting ratings (Monday did a 2.7, WWE's lowest non-holiday RAW rating since December 1997) and provide something resembling momentum heading
into Sunday's PPV... and lord knows, the Stunt Casting is necessary when the starring members of the regular cast are Randy Orton and Mark
Henry... both men are arguably performing at a higher level than they ever have previously in their careers, and yet, you'll forgive The Rick
for having old habits that die hard; wanting to fast forward or flip channels whenever either of them is around are two of them...
To circumvent my Orton/Henry Avoidance Techniques, tonight's SD (taped in Toronto) will feature Hometown Boy, Edge... specifically, the only
appearances by Orton/Henry will be on a show-closing edition of The Cutting Edge, where they will be proximate to Edge, and thus (hopefully) somewhat
more compelling... Edge will also open the show with a promo, and other bits took place that made this "Edge Appreciation Night" (but that may have
been done more for the benefit of the live audience than for TV purposes); it'll be interesting to see exactly how the Edge segments play out,
as he's reportedly booked for next week's SD tapings (here in Dayton) and for the upcoming HitC PPV...
To further circumvent my Orton/Henry Avoidance Techniques, WWE made use of Hometown Girl, Trish Stratus, in a couple of segments (albeit, only
backstage ones)...
The non-stunt-casting portion of the show is less thrilling once you get past the scheduled Grudge Match between Daniel Bryan and Sin Cara (although,
without spoilering things, one could say that there's a bit of Stunt Casting involved here, too; or perhaps "Superfluous Casting" would be
more accurate?).... Christian/Wade Barrett will take on Sheamus/Justin Gabriel in an International Showcase... R-Truth will be facing Evan Bourne,
apparently to prove that the "Supershow" concept is now working both ways... Beth Phoenix will be tuning up for her PPV title match by facing AJ...
and to use our favorite euphemism from Saturday Morning Wrestling Days, Khali will be "in action"....
The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Let your voice be heard and your thoughts on Brand Supremacy be known. Don't wait till after 10pm to post,
either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

The Trish backstage segments are nothing to get excited about. The Sin Cara stuff is just weird. Guess I'd better hold my tongue until
it's been on over there...
Loved Seamus's Demolition reference!

Yeah, that Sheamus rhyme was pretty amusing. I loved the Sheamus "lobsterhead" and "too many limes" signs in the crowd, as well. The more I watch
of Sheamus, the more I think he's a natural face.

When next to each other, the size difference between Sin Cara and Hunico is pretty obvious. Booker however thinks that the bad version has black soles
to his boots, or something stupid. Still, the idea of which Sin Cara shows up next week is interesting... I guess.
Henry promo was ok. They should give him
The belt for a month, because he can't be worse than Khali.
Enjoying Seamus as a face. Wasn't he the top face in FCW? He'd probably be a better top face than Orton, given time.
Promo package for HHH vs Punk made it look like the only thing worth watching this Sunday. Shame for ADR really.
Oh, and Ted Dibiase needs new music, pronto.

Everyone has those things that annoy them about Wrestling, one of my big issues happened when Daniel "won" his match only to completely disappear
when Sin Car Uno returned.
Would it not have really made for an interesting story with Daniel trying to fight back only to get confused as to which one?
Other than that, it felt like a World Champ promo from Mark Henry.
I'm starting to really feel they need to give him the run & it looks like outside WM & Taker the most likely time Orton could lose clean.
Sheamus as the Genius redux could be fun but it moves him into a goofy role and at this point I'd rather him more serious than trying to sell
Vince McMahon comedy.
I have to give credit were it's due, DiBiase really made it look like he deserved the shot and that punch whilst in the bag was really well done
by both.
Whilst he was in the ring with Edge I was thinking how the Cody gimmick would make a little more sense if it was revealed that his new lady friend had
demanded he wore the mask in case any uncooths tried to damage his pretty pretty face, it then plays more into the Bag gimmick as well.

Watching Michael Cole trying not to crack up at Booker's explanation was pretty hilarious. And I'm kind of digging the Sin Cara storyline,
but if they don't get different outfits the matches are going to be confusing. And at Survivor Series can they do Taker/Kane/Sin Cara/Nash/Hall
against Fake Taker/Fake Kane/Fake Sin Cara/Fake Diesel/Fake Razor?
As for the show, I thought it was a pretty good go-home show for the PPV (definitely better than RAW was). 99% of the time I would know not to bet
against Orton on PPV, but I agree that Henry's promo (which actually was pretty solid) seemed to be setting up a world title win for him. Then
again, he was left standing over Orton as the show ended, so if the old wrestling adage of whoever gets the last laugh before the PPV loses,
Orton's gonna win.
