new name, deserves a proper introduction

I will try not to make this any longer or more confusing than it needs to be. My name is Scotty Szanto, and I previously had been posting under the screen name scottysn. The new screen name is the result of my legal name change. The "n" in my old screen name is for Nicodemus, and that is the part that was dropped from my name...I will detail that story in a moment. Those of you that have been around OO for a long time might recognize all of those names together because I recapped TNA and did some guest columns as Scotty Szanto-Nicodemus. Definitely my crowning achievement was a six-part series counting-down my Top Ten matches, promos, "holy shit" moments, etc. from my ECW video library. You can check that out here: http://www.oowrestling.com/features/20040109.shtml (NOTE: I tried a couple of times to find a convenient way to link this thing here, and the best I got is the link provided to the first column of the series, then the rest can be found in the Guest Column Archive, about halfway down the page http://www.oowrestling.com/features/).

Anyway, I finally joined the forum a couple of years ago. At the time, my dad was in the hospital following a car accident. It took about a year, but he eventually died as a result of that crash. Now, my dad was a blue-collar union worker who's motto was "I was born a poor Democrat, and I will die a poor Democrat." He succeeded. Problem is that because he died as the result of an accident, there was a wrongful-death insurance claim that paid-off, so all of a sudden upon his death my dad was worth a bunch of money. While I was driving from Texas to Ohio for his funeral, I found out that three months prior to his death (and less than six months after a month-long coma and complete amnesia), my dad changed his will and left everything to his girlfriend. I contested the will and lost, partly because my extended family, my aunts and uncles, his brothers and sisters stood with his girlfriend in court against me. So, as a way of symbolically disowning myself from that family, I legally changed my name, taking my wife's name and dropping Nicodemus (my dad was adopted, so I am not a part of that bloodline anyway).

So that's how I went from Scotty Nicodemus, to Scotty Szanto-Nicodemus when I got married, to Scotty Szanto. It's a story that I might not have bothered to tell on these forums at all if it hadn't been for the screen name that I had chosen.

So you are a boy and you have a hyphenated married name? I'm sorry, the story about your dad is terrible, but I just had to ask.

Jesus man, that sucks.

As an old-school ECW fan, I'll look forward to reading that link though.

Thanks for the general condolences. Yes, it sucks. What really sucks is that my dad and I worked really hard to repair our relationship that we both destroyed when I was in my twenties. He was taken advantage of when he was most vulnerable, and I shouldn't let the bullshit with the lawsuit taint my memories of him, but it does. I'm working on it, and getting better slowly but surely.

As for specific questions raised...

Yes, I am a boy. I also have a minor in Women's Studies. In fact, something that played a large role in shaping my thinking about hyphenating my name was the fact that one of my first WS professors had a hyphenated name, but her husband (also a professor) did not. I always considered that to be odd.

Well, I got this mayonnaise jar that is full of change along with assorted nuts and bolts...

Linking to it became an adventure because it was before the change from OnlineOnslaught to OOwrestling, so none of the links within the columns work anymore. I edited the links I provided in the original post, and it should be easy enough to find.

Were you the one with Scott steiner putting some dude in a chinlock for your avatar?

Because if you don't have an avatar, I don't bother to remember you.

Do you get along with your wife's family? It sucks that your side is a mess, I hope some good comes out of it all for you.

Scotty Szanto sounds better anyhow. I'm a fan of alliterated names. It almost sounds like it could be an ECW wrestler name.

Personally, I think hes a [freaking homosexual].

I don't recall this av. I do know that BigStevieCool has the av where Samoa Joe has Scott Steiner in the Rear Naked Choke. I'm not sure if that's what you're pertaining to.

my av is a burger.

I vaguely remember your recaps - then again I only vaguely remember anything after the Reagan administration. Get off my lawn!
