Discussion For Smackdown 14th October (better late than pregnant edition)
So, it's Saturday evening I guess I'll be the one to bring up Smackdown.
2nd longest show ever with Smack in the title or something like that.
41 man battle royale with cheese made no sense until it was down to the usual suspects.
Loved Ryder being the stand in Air, even if he doesn't get a mention on Raw I'm really enjoying the continuation of the Ziggler - Ryder
feud on the B Show
an idea for the PPV if Bourne is still injured give us a tag match were if Ryder wins he gets the US but if Ziggler/Swagger win they get the Tag
Titles.
Hate that Henry is being owned by Orton & Show these days, though I don't hate Show being physical I just wish it was more equal.
The worries though for Rhodes at the PPV begin now.

What should happen: Orton jobs to Cody-- cleanly-- giving Cody a huge win, and making him look like a legitimate threat.
What will happen: Hangman DDT followed by the RKO out of nowhere. Both Cody and the IC Championship look worthless. Orton bags Cody's head,
picks him up, RKO again. Orton continues to beat down an already beaten Cody, WWE Universe cheers gleefully.
Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.
Come participate in the Career Deadpool 2012! All suggestions/discussions are
welcome.

^With Orton jobbing cleanly to Henry lately, I don't think there is any chance Rhodes isn't all but squashed.
Cody gets nothing out of feuding with Orton, even if it is just one match to give Orton something to do. It just diminishes the IC title to be
fighting a guy so above it. Cody should be feuding with up and comers who want their shot at the IC - taking on all comers, if he wants to make the
belt meaningful again.
Rhodes against Bryan would be a good feud, but Bryan needs wins on his own after being the job boy in the Sin Cara storyline. I wish Bryan would
stop carrying around the MITB briefcase - it's pointless if he's true to his word that he will not cash it in until WM. Have Bryan say he
put the contract in a safe deposit box and in the time being wants to go after the IC title. Have both Sin Cara's going after it. Have Barrett
go after it. Have Zach Ryder go after it. Bring up Richie Steamboat to go after it. Dean Ambrose. Seth Rollins. Xavier Woods. Bo Rotundo. Husky
Harris. Leo Kruger. Damian Sandow.
I remember Eddie Guerrero.

During the epic meeting of the minds between Ryder & Teddy Long was anyone else getting this vibe

I agree Rhodes really should be in the "hardy" role right now carrying multiple segment matches to legitimize the IC title not being fed to
rehabilitate Orton.
It's a pity they really don't seem to have many in the long serving upper mid card role who could help make Cody.
Hell, the story of him trying to make a name for himself by picking the bones of a weakened Orton is a fantastic one that then plays into the eventual
resurgence of the "apex predator" the problem is if WWE was capable of that type of slow burn long term story telling it wouldn't be in the
mess it's in creatively.

I'm actually on board with Cody vs Orton, regardless of how it turns out. Cody has nothing to lose here, everything to gain. If he loses to
Orton (which he will), what's the big deal? It's Orton, and Cody is coming off of a lot of solid wins over legit opponents (including a
couple against Orton himself). After his loss, he can easily step down a bit and have all those IC title building matches you guys mentioned, while
maybe having a little something to be crazier about in his promos. He put a paper bag on the man's head, for Christ's sake. That was the
best I've seen Orton look in years.
If Cody was getting buried in their interaction, I'd see a problem. He has consistently held his own though, and helped to tell an entertaining
story so far. I don't think he needs to win the blowoff to come out of this one looking shiny.

Agreed. Yeah, it would be nice to see Cody feuding with someone over the IC title, but what's the harm in letting him feud with arguably the top
face in the company? It's kind of like when Cena got to feud with guys like Taker and Lesnar back in the day...no, he didn't win the
matches, but I think he turned out okay.
As for the show, I thought it was a decent rebound from last week's pretty crappy effort.
The battle royal was a big clusterfuck for much of the match, but it was kinda fun to see that many guys in the ring at the same time (at least for a
minute or two...then the novelty wore off). The stuff with Orton and Miz was entertaining at the end and I almost wonder if that RKO spot on the apron
wasn't botched in some way. It was kind of hard to really tell one way or the other on the replays. Oh yeah, and OMG ORTON WON!!!1!! Seriously,
would it have hurt them to let someone else win? Yes. Yes it would have.
Beth/Kelly was your standard two-minute Divas stuff, but at least Beth went over clean here (and pretty convincingly).
Gabriel/Evil Sin Cara was decent for being about two minutes. Kind of surprised to see Gabriel get beat so easily, since it seems like he's been
getting a mild push lately. And I really liked Michael Cole explaining the whole dual Sin Cara thing during the match, as I thought it fleshed things
out a bit with the storyline.
Del Rio/Sheamus was pretty good but could have used more time. To my knowledge, it was the first time those two have wrestled (though I could very
well be wrong about that) and it would have been nice to see them get at least five more minutes. And even though it was far from clean, I like Del
Rio getting a pinfall victory over someone like Sheamus. It seems like he's getting back to his original character a little, after being made
into a chickenshit heel in recent months.
Tag match was good and I'm enjoying the continuing Air Boom/Ziggler and Swagger feud, as well as Ryder and Ziggler. It seems everyone was
proclaiming in the RAW thread that Mason Ryan was stealing Ryder's spot in the US title picture, but that doesn't seem to be the case. If
anything, it would be kind of cool if Ziggler feuded with Ryan on RAW and Ryder on Smackdown.
Main event was about what you would expect from an Orton/Henry match. In a weird way, it is kind of fresh to have Big Show and Mark Henry in the world
title picture. The matches won't be good, and I doubt Show will take the title off of Henry, but it is a nice little break from Orton.

Not unless he wins the feud, or the feud goes on a substantial amount of time to why Cody is either Orton's equal, or very close to being it.
If all that happens, it elevates the IC title as well.
Personally, I think hes a [freaking homosexual].

Is it just me or have we had a couple instances here the last week where the bell guy actually rings the bell before the referee calls for it? Anyone
paying attention to production value up at Titan Towers?
P.S. Any foreshadowing of a return at all with a "From The Vault" match featuring Jericho?

If he wins the feud it just shows Cody is above the IC title really. Good for establishing Rhodes at a ME level, but not for re-establishing the IC
title. Unless you want the IC title to be seen as on par with the World Title, but then it really leaves nothing for the undercard guys to fight for;
to use as a stepping stone.

That definitely has happened at least once recently.
What was up with that part in the tag match when the announcers started saying "Yeah, Ryder went to college. So did Kofi. So did Bourne." And then
there was silence, and Cole says "there's a line in there somewhere, but I can't find it." Did I miss something?
I do like how Booker seems to be playing up his terrible announcing for laughs. It's occasionaly funny and makes it harder to recognize how dumb
he is.
Is Sin Cara injured? Why wasn't he in the Battle Royal? And why can't WWE realise that the quality of a Battle Royal declines as more
people are added?

Now that's going a little too far, in my estimation. Beating one former champion in a feud doesn't make a guy instantly main event
caliber, regardless of what the Fed may want you to believe with how they set up their title matches. Cody winning elevates both him and the IC title,
but that won't come anywhere close to putting the IC title on par with either World championship. It just establishes Cody as a serious threat
in the ring. If another serious threat challenged him for the IC title after this program with Orton is over, that would elevate the title as well.

The bell ringing early in that one match on Smackdown almost seemed like the sound was added in post-production, but I can't think of why
they'd have done that so it must have just been a miscue on the timekeeper or ref's part.

It was the standard WWE commentary thing of talking about which college someone went to (which might be common in all American sports? It's not
common in the UK, because pro soccer players are in training camps from the age of about 15 and don't get an education), and they did that for
Bourne and Kofi, and then when someone brought up Ryder, Cole wanted to make some joke about him but couldn't think of one.
quote: Is Sin Cara injured? Why wasn't he in the Battle Royal?
He might be injured, actually. It doesn't make sense they'd just leave him out when they put the NXT scrubs, including Bicycle Shorts Matt
Striker, in. So there must be a reason. Theory: They shot the Evil Sin Cara backstage attack earlier in the day, and Original Sin Cara got banged up
in that.
quote: And why can't WWE realise that the quality of a Battle Royal declines as more people are added?
WWE doesn't -- and shouldn't -- give a shit about how many snowflakes a battle royal gets. It's guys throwing each other over the
top rope, it's just a big clusterfuck until you get down to the last three or so. Having ten less people in at the start wouldn't have
caused it to end up in the Meltzer awards, and "biggest battle royal ever" (or whatever they said it was) is a selling point. I remember as a kid
they announced a 40 man battle royal on one of the shows for the following week, and I was excited as hell waiting for it. I've got no
recollection of it now though. Just looked it up, it was in 1992 on an episode of Prime Time apparently, and Berzerker (!) won.

^^Meh, it adds ten more minutes of suck.
As for the ring bell, I think it happened live because the ref seemed to be counting and then heard the bell, sighed, and called for it. unless
I'm thinking of a different screw up.
