Filtering Xbox Live

Anyone here ever filter out users that connect to their games on Live? I think I can figure it out, but was looking to find anyone that may have first hand experience with this.

I play Gears of War a lot and am trying to block a couple people from joining my room when I'm hosting, as they are not actually playing the game. They join and are away from controller. So the 5 vs 5 match becomes 5 vs 3. It ruins everything for the whole fucking night. I think there is an achievement that requires 1999 matches of a certain game type, so they're probably just trying to get earn that. It's maddening.

I was looking around and I think I can tell my router to filter out their MAC addresses next time it happens, but I wanted to make sure I did it just right and didn't muck up the whole network.

So I was totally wrong. Simply finding out a MAC or IP address isn't easy to accomplish without running a separate program. And I'm not sure how to filter them at all via MAC address, meaning I would have to utilize their IP instead. And in doing so it isn't a simple filter on your router settings. It requires still another program that essentially floods them with data, to the point their router disconnects from Live and possibly the entire net for a few minutes. Which as you guessed is illegal as hell.

So this little venture is moving into shady territory and probably will be nixed.

Can't you just go into their Xbox Live profile and click that you'd prefer not to game with them? I thought that was an available option.

Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.

In my experience this will work only on heavily populated games. If the population pool is too low, the preference is out the window. Some nights on Gears 2 it's a fucking ghost town, so there is no way to get away from these assholes.
