The Resurrection of Jake the Snake
Not sure whether to put this here, retro or TV/movies. Has anyone caught this on Netflix yet?
Spoiler alert
In the end he gets into WWE HoF

Yeah, I just noticed it was on Netflix yesterday. Haven't gotten a check to watch it yet though. Looking forward to it.

I caught it a couple of nights ago. It's not bad at all. It ends up becoming a bit of an ad for DDPYoga, but it was still nice to see two of my
childhood favorites, Jake and Scott Hall, bring themselves back from the brink of oblivion like they did, with DDP's help. It is definitely
worth a view.

I watched it last night. futurelegend is right, it does feel like a long ad for DDP Yoga at times, but it was worth watching to see Jake story, as
well as Scott's story within this as well. It does take a good look into how addiction affects not just the addict, but the people around
him/her as well. Definitely worth your 95+ minutes.

Jake cried almost through the entire movie. He cried because Razor made fun of his hair. He cried so much that when he tried to rib DDP about not
entering the Rumble, Page didn't even stop eating to listen to him. He cried almost more than Flair during any given HoF ceremony. He woke his
girlfriend and they cried together.
The universe seems neither benign nor hostile, merely indifferent.

I liked that it showed Jake's rehab as a process more than a "we did the Yoga and now he's fixed!" thing - it was very warts and all and
built on the idea that Jake may slip now and then but he's made a commitment to trying to be healthy. The personality shift between sober Jake
and drunk Jake was pretty startling. It definitely had the ad for the yoga thing as part of it, but I didn't feel it was that heavy-handed about
it and it's not like I didn't know he used DDP's system going in.

Here is the thing, it couldn't help but mention the Yoga. Its a documentary film, using DDP as a major point of view character. It woudl be
weird in a documentary to excise the Yoga from the film. I don't remember them, at any point in the film, stopping the documentary narrative for
product placement. It was a part of his recovery, therefore it was a part of the documentary about his recovery.
I thought that it told the story well, honestly and brutally. I thought that even though the footage was even available was in part because of DDP and
the Yoga that they didn't really take advantage of it. There is no sell. I don't honestly even think that by the end of the movie that you
get any kind of feeling that DDPYOGA (TM) was the major fix for Jake the Snake, rather, that there was/is no fix, but that recovery is a lifelong
process, he has his heart in it, and he has friends and family that are in the fight with him.
I think that, in a world of reality shows like Celebrity Rehab, that this was a very sober, respectful, honest telling of the reality that even with
more help than most people can count on, with friends and accountability, that addiction, in this case, alchohol, isn't something that is just
cured, and hitting rock bottom and being ready to change is just the start. It also, I felt, gives hope and tries to show that it is worth the
struggle.
My final hope is that it reaches an audience that may not see or recieve the message otherwise. I'm also glad, to be honest, that it ended on a
positive swing, and that he and others like Scott Hall keep it going. That they can keep themselves and others on that positive path.
My biggest takeaway was how emotional and sensitive such badass wrestlers can be. You tend to think, as a fan, watching guys get booed and putting up
with all kind of ridiculous abuse from fans who "paid for their ticket" that these guys, especially from the good old days, have grown some pretty
thick skins. To see that Jake seemed to still have everything to prove (at least to himself) and felt proud of so very little, and apparently (and
timely for Father's Day being yesterday) so lacking in the love or pride of his father that so much of his life was wrapped up into proving his
father wrong, that it eventually drove him to excess and nearly took his life.
In short, I didn't feel it was an advertisement, I felt it was well done, and I'm glad that this movie is out there, I think the world is
better for it, and I know Netflix certainly is.

I agree with this wholeheartedly, you can't take away DDP Yoga from the movie because it was part of his rehab (and I'm a fan of it -
I'm using it now), and you're right, they never actually sell it. I think it's more because DDP and his crew wear the DDP Yoga
shirts so much during the interviews (probably because that really is all DDP wears these days). And I don't mean it to be something that ruins
the movie, either, it's just very noticeable because of who is being interviewed.
I also agree with the rest of what you say.

I had contributed to the Scott Hall hip replacement surgery a few years ago, so I just recently received the DVD in the mail. It's a
"Collector's Edition" so it's supposed to have more stuff than the wide release. I look forward to watching it soon (it's just
hard to get in watching a movie with two little ones. Plus, I'm sure this is going to be depressing, so there might be certain days where
I'm not feeling in the mood to watch it, lol).

This is exactly what I was trying to say when I said it sometimes seems like a DDPYoga commercial. I hadn't been able to get around to
clarifying that, so thank you, Salmonjunkie.

It's not too depressing. It starts that way, but ends up being very positive and uplifting without being too preachy about the DDPYoga
lifestyle. I don't think Page would have put it out as a documentary if it was depressing. I feel your pain when it comes to watching movies
with little ones around, but when you can sit down and watch it, it will be worth it. Also, color me intrigued about the extra features.
