Question about WWE house shows
For those of you that don't know, I work in the Admissions Office at UNC Asheville. Yesterday, we received an email that WWE is doing a house
show at our arena on campus on July 31. After looking at WWE's schedule, it looks like it's a split show, as they are also running a show
in Augusta, GA the same night. Having never been to a house show, anyone know how the split shows usually work? Do they have half the big stars on
one show and half on the other, or is it truly an "A" show and a "B" show where we might get just a bunch of mid-carders.
Also, I emailed the director of our arena yesterday and told her that I would like to volunteer to work the show, and I got this back:
quote: Nate--I will put you on the "volunteer list." Know, however, that you may or may not get to actually meet them. Their security and
protocols are the tightest I have ever seen! Anyone caught video taping them even with cell phones will be ejected immediately--and I am not kidding.
LOL
I think we have some OO folks that have worked security at events. Anyone able to tell me if the wrestlers are approachable?
And for those of you who DO know me, how funny would it be for me to try to get a picture standing next to Big Show or Big Cass?

Given the date it'll probably be Raw roster at one show and Smackdown roster at the other.

I have worked security in the past. (some less known rock bands, Eminem, etc.) and I have worked a few WWE shows. Granted this was about 15 years ago.
I can tell you that security was reminded multiple times to remain professional and not approach the wrestlers like a fan or request autographs etc.
This was prior to the proliferation of the cell phone camera so that wasn't really an issue.
If your just a volunteer and it won't affect your real job, I say go for it. Get some video of Lana taking a poop.
When it Reigns, it bores.

In my experience, I live in NY, where they run both A and B shows (A shows are in MSG, B shows in the Westchester County Center in White Plains). B
shows are more affordable and smaller more intimate atmosphere but we generally only get midcard guys (although once in awhile we'll get
surprised).
I just went to one in March and some of the matches were:
1. Ryback beat Eric Rowan.
2. Goldust beat Bo Dallas.
3. Kalisto beat Dolph Ziggler and Rusev in a Triple Threat to retain the U.S. Title. (This was actually really good)
4. Sin Cara beat Diego.
5. Becky Lynch beat Naomi (w/Tamina) by DQ.
6. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch beat Naomi and Tamina.
7. Big Show and Kane beat Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman.
So you can see the level of superstars you're getting.
Although a couple of years ago, we got an awesome show at the same place with almost all the main guys like Jericho, Rollins, Cena, Orton, Sheamus,
Daniel Bryan, etc. But generally it's what you'd expect from a "B" roster. Your "main event" will probably feature either Big Show
or Kane.
Hope that helps!

Pun, some are certainly more approachable than others, at least from my personal experience.
The WWF came to my college back around 1992ish I'd say, when Yokozuna was the champ at the time. I worked sound for the day, connecting their
sound equipment up to the speakers/PA system in our gym. Back then, we were not given the warning to not approach the wrestlers and ask for
autographs. In fact our campus security said it was fine to go in and talk to them because they had done so already. So while I was hanging around
chatting with security after getting everything prepared for the event, we went into the locker room. I saw and approached the Undertaker, said
hello, politely introduced myself and asked if I could have his autograph. His response was "Who the hell is this?", said not to me, but to Rene
Goulet who was the road agent at the time. Goulet quickly ushered us out of the locker room and that was the end of that. Lesson learned.
When the event was over, the ring announcer took the microphone into the locker room with him. I did not want to go back into the locker room, so I
waited almost 30 minutes for him to return to the sound booth with it, but he never did. I needed to clean up and get out so I decided I had to go
into the locker room to get it. When I first entered, an early Diesel, Kevin Nash was by the door. I said hello to him and said I was coming in to
pick up the microphone and he politely smiled and said hello back and asked how I was doing. As I walked further into the locker room, this time
determined to not speak to anyone and just do my job, Yokozuna was sitting there on the bench and started yelling at me to get out or he was going to
"break my punk ass neck". When I said I was just getting the microphone, Goulet immediately showed up and again escorted me from the locker room
and eventually brought out the microphone.
So, Nash - approachable, maybe? Yoko and Taker - maybe not so much?
Blazeofglory, however? - Proven to be a very foolish idiot, and guilty of some pretty mark-ish behavior. I look back on that day and cherish the
memory, but really wish I had behaved better. Needless to say, Nash became my favorite wrestler from that point forward.
Screw you guys, I'm going home.

I guess to give you some idea re: roster makeup on the shows, here are the results from house shows run last Saturday.
In Lubbock, Texas:
R-Truth beat Tyler Breeze.
Cesaro beat Primo.
Dolph Ziggler beat Baron Corbin.
Karl Anderson beat an Uso.
Charlotte beat Natalya to retain the WWE Womens Title.
Rusev beat Sin Cara to retain the US Title.
Roman Reigns beat Seth Rollins, AJ Styles and Sheamus in a Four Way to retain the WWE Title.
Meanwhile, in Tulsa, Oklahoma:
Enzo and Cass beat The Dudleys.
Jack Swagger beat Viktor.
Apollo Crews beat Darren Young.
The Big Show and Kane beat Braun Strowman and Erick Rowan.
Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch beat Dana Brooke and Lana. Summer Rae was the guest ref.
The New Day beat The Vaudevillians to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles.
Dean Ambrose beat Kevin Owens.
Though as OpTard pointed out, this is after SD goes live, so there's a pretty good chance it'll simply be a single-brand Raw or SD show.

I signed up at a major arena when I got into college largely because I wanted to meet (or just see) some wrestlers. This was probably like 98? I
worked a RAW and a Nitro.
Nitro was pretty fucking surreal. Remember Adam Bomb aka Wrath? I was getting a drink from the water fountain and as I finish and go to walk away I
notice someone behind me. It's fucking Wrath. I knew some guys had begun showing up to the arena, but I was still totally caught off guard. It
was equal parts "HOLY SHIT THAT'S WRATH", "Jesus this guy is terrifying" and "Don't fucking bother him, you're on the clock."
He knew I was startled and looked at me like "move already you dork."
As the day went on I saw more and more guys. Most insane part was easily when one of the main roll gates (it's made for semis to enter through)
opened halfway up. I memory serves Hall, Nash, Macho, and Hogan, all walked in one by one in a single file line. Place went almost silent with 90% of
the staff quietly marking the fuck out. It was pretty awesome really.
A friend that was working with me apparently tried to say hi to Scott Steiner. Scott looked at him out of the corner of his eye. Friend almost shit
himself. Steiner goes back to what he was doing.
During the show Dean Malenko (literally one of the main reasons I began watching wrestling again after years of not giving a shit) was pacing in front
of the security pass thru where I was stationed. He was talking on a cell and looked a bit preoccupied. I couldn't resist. I had to.... I tossed
up the 4 Horseman sign for a second. He kinda nodded and went back to his call.
At RAW I was hanging out on down time well before they went live... middle of the day. I didn't smoke but I was hanging out back with the
smokers killing a minute. All the talent had to walk past us if they were coming or going. The Rock comes out and asks about "any decent place for
good food that is easy to find from here?" We are all star struck. He's nice. People are rattling off suggestions. Again... I had to do it...
keep in mind this was like either a day or a week after a PPV or something and he had put on a good match with I dunno... Mankind? "That was a great
main event you two put on." He looked over at me for a moment, and went back to inquiring about food options.
Later on that day I shifted from security to maintenance (cleaning shit up). The guy that clocked in for security I believe ended up on RAW with The
Rock. I think it was just a "Hey kid, where are the locker rooms?" "Down that hall and to your right..." But still, I could've been on RAW
with the fucking Rock.
Mark Henry came into the security office and wanted to use the phone book to find a place to eat as well. He was beyond massive in real life. He was
super cool as hell and mentioned that all he wanted was donuts but his lady would murder him if he ate donuts for dinner.
My friend there (our very own illustrious and missing in action, FusionFistCutter,) had the pleasure of meeting The Godfather and Viscera. He was on
cleaning duty with a few other people. Godfather basically saw him and was like "Hey guys... you know where I can find something?" Being fans of him
and wrestling they were like "YES!" They all ended up going to FFC's apartment with those two and smoked a couple blunts. Godfather was super
super nice. Viscera just wanted to get stoned and not deal with discussing business. Must have looked super weird to any onlookers on campus to see a
handful of white college guys walking to their apt with two GIANT black wrestler dudes in the middle of the day.
Overall I would say the vast majority of these guys don't give a shit about you. They're doing their daily grind and really want to be
left alone. There might be someone that looks approachable or something. But in general I would advise to let them be. God forbid you get noticed in a
bad way by someone like Vince or HHH and get ripped a new one by them and or your boss.
And I can't stress enough how big these guys are up close. Monsters.

I thought you were gonna say that Mark Henry asked to borrow a phone book, and then promptly ripped it in half.
Were you there smoking out with Godfather and Viscera as well? That's a bad ass story.
Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.

I swear I remember this story being told back in the day, possibly by FFC? I seem to recall there being a part about getting an autograph from Viscera
and it was basically illegible.

I do believe FFC has discussed the autograph he got from them. I think he still has a pic of them chillin with him and his crew. I was not there :/
And Henry was very cool. He was still very new to the company and just seemed to be a normal, albeit massive, dude. I was cracking up at how stressed
he was about getting or not getting donuts.

I was at the Saturday October 3rd, 2015 show in Bangor ME. Which was going on simultaneously with the MSG show which featured Brock Lesnar, which was
broadcast on WWE Network.
If anything was going to be a "B"-Show it was this. But WWE still put on a very good show.
Yeah there were a few C-list vs C-list fights. When Heath Slater is jobbing to Fandango, you are scraping the bottom of the roster.
But Cesaro vs Miz was good. The three way tag mach with Lucha Dragons, El Matadores, and the Ascension was very good.
I loved the women's match, Natalya vs Sasha Banks. Natalya was a hit with the girls in audience, with Natalya taking selfies with one or two
girls on her way out after her victory. And seeing Sasha live was great, even though she was playing the chicken-shit heel with Tamina as her
bodyguard. That's not the best showcase for her talents but she played it well.
Adam Rose vs R-Truth was a goofy but fun. I concede that if it was on TV, I'd fast forward through it, but I enjoyed it.
The main event felt like one. Reigns vs Wyatt. The from-the-stands entry of Reigns, and the "firefly" entrance for Wyatt helped give it that feel
right from the start. The inevitable run ins of Luke Harper and Dean Ambrose, reprising their earlier match, added to the big match feel.
It may have been a B-level show, but they brought enough A-talent, and much of the lower card players who wouldn't go over in a bigger show had
a better connection with the crowd in this house show.
I found a detailed report on it at PWInsider:

I love that the Ambrose/Jericho match is being billed as an "Asheville Street Fight". That carries about as much credibility as the "Greenwich
Street Fight". But this only further cements my desire to get a picture standing between Big Show, Cass, and Braun Strowman.
