PS4 or XBox 1
Now that both systems have been out for however long, it's time for me to get one to go along with upgrading my living room entertainment
center. Which one is better and why? Sway me OO Nation.

Speaking as a PS4 owner I enjoy the system a whole lot but since I don't have an Xbone or a fancy media center settup I can't really speak
to the pros and cons of it versus the Xbone. Honestly, from what I've heard, especially from friends who are more obsessive about gaming than I
am, if game exclusivity isn't a huge concern for you go with the XBox. It's supposed to work better integrating all of the bells and
whistles of an entertainment system/media center together and provide a more fluid experience. I'm on the go right now, but once I get situated
back at home I'll have to see if I can't track down a few links that were super-informative and non-biased in their comparisons.

I have both, and I wind up using my XBox more. The only thing I've noticed on cross platform games is that there's a few that don't
do 1080p on the One but can on the PS4 (those games also seem to have Japanese publishers...). But the XBox seems to do everything my PS4 does: both
play Blu-Rays, both require the games to be installed and use up the 500GB HDD's quick if you don't maintain them after four or five
games, and both require premium memberships for the online stuff. The big one, though, is XBox One has backwards compatibility, so some games may
carry over if you've got XBox Live purchases or 360 discs. The PS4 has some PS2 games for sale, but if you own the physical copy or bought it
on the PS3, you're buying it again.

I don't really have any 360 or PS3 games so the backwards compatibility isn't that important. Basically, it's going to come down to
a game/ease of use thing. Which system has the better games and which one is easier to use/upgrade to a larger hard drive since I've heard that
is an issue? How does PSN relate to XBox Live?

-As far as ease of use, both are on pretty equal footing. The games are pretty much identical on both systems, with Halo and Uncharted being the
"exclusive" franchises (Halo 5 and Uncharted 4 are both this gen only, while the previous installments of both have HD collections). Your
preference of FPS vs. Adventure would play a big role there, since they're both pretty highly regarded.
The only other exclusives are more downloadable than "disc purchased". The PS4 has a big run on indy games, while X-Box seems to try and go more
"arcadey" with their Live titles (except for one, and if you're a zombie fan, State of Decay is worth a look on X-Box). The only real game
differences involve timed-exclusivity (Tomb Raider apparently will come to X-Box first from here on out) and HD capabilities (there's a few
games that are 1080p on PS4 that only hit 720p on X-Box, but they're all games from companies with Sony ties, like Metal Gear Solid V and Lords
of the Fallen).
As far as the online services, PSN has already had a few DDOS attacks against them that have knocked the services down for weeks (X-Box Live on the
other hand recovers from those attacks within a day tops) and has had an instance or two of going down because a popular game came out that everyone
tried to download at once (I feel like this will happen with Final Fantasy XV in September). When they're both healthy, they're about
equal in terms of lag, but the X-Box Live membership does cost $10 more (though, again, with how little it goes down, you see where your money
goes).
And as far as upgrading the HDD, that can be done using external HDDs. I bought a 4TB Seagate Drive a few months back that was pretty easy to set up
(essentially just plugged it in and let the X-Box do all the work). I haven't bought on for my PS4 since it's got plenty of space, but
I've been told it's just as easy.
Sorry the response took this long but was swamped with work stuff.
-Edited to add: I don't know if you've played any Bethesda games like Skyrim or Fallout 3, but if you plan on trying out their games
next-gen, X-Box is the easy answer, as Playstation for whatever reason has difficulty handling those games.

I am almost bound to buy the One. I have like 90+ friends on it, and my account is tied to a few dozen games, which will port over to One if/when I
get one. Not getting the One is to lose a lot of content and people. Also Gears of War.
However, my friend that got me back into gaming, and has had every major console ever, fucking HATES the One. It's possible he has a defective
unit, so I would like to hear if you guys have experienced his issue - It never auto-updates, as it's supposed to. It's set to download
updates even when powered down (does low power updating as the system is basically asleep in theory.) Since it fails to do so, whenever he turns it
on, he's usually greeted with "Killer Instinct Update - 11GB". And despite having very very fast internet, it takes forever, so his plan to
just jump on and play a few matches is doomed from the start.
The only way he can get around this is to just leave it on and perhaps set it for auto-off after 6 hours of inactivity, something that annoys him due
to the fact that Xboxs are renowned for living short lives.

That's a good reason. Uncharted was why I picked up PS3 over X-Box 360. The Last of Us made me even more glad I went that way, as it's
one of the best games I've ever played.
If you haven't played those games and want to, go ahead and get the PS4.

The board ate my post last night... long story short, the new One S that comes out in a couple weeks might be just enough to win over those on the
fence. It has a 4K BluRay (aka UHD) disc drive in it. Currently a stand alone player is around $349. The S with a 1TB HDD is $349. If you plan on
slowly buying into the 4k hype this is a no brainer. But if you don't want to upgrade your disc library at $30 a pop (for right now) than
it's moot.
Personally I have no immediate need for 4k movies, but if they're just tossing the disc drive in at essentially $0, then it further cements the
One S as my next console this Christmas.

You've already made up your mind, but I'll chime in and just say that I also have both, and even though I end up playing the Xbox One
more, I think the menus/interface for the PS4 are way better. Much cleaner and more organized.
Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.

Uncharted 4 is pretty fantastic, Just Cause 3* is fun if you're into finding fun ways to blow shit up, and Until Dawn* is pretty rad as a choose
your own adventure horror movie type game.
* I wouldn't pay full price for either but if you can get them on the cheap they're worth checking out.

Batman: Arkham Night was stellar and really shows what the PS4 can do (and you can probably get it quite cheap at this point). I'm loving Doom
currently if you want to go the FPS route and fuck up some demons.

Even though the original poster already has made his decision I am going to share my thoughts as well. I started with the PS4, and it's an
awesome, awesome system. MLB the Show is the main exclusive that I care about and that's a PS4 one so that system was necessary for me. I
picked up the One a couple months ago, my first Xbox system ever and wow, I love it. EA Access is a must for me, I now play all my sports games on
the One and the ones I don't pick up come for free after about 6 months, pretty sweet.
The biggest advice (and the main reason for this post) I have though for someone moving into this generation is do not buy games at launch unless you
NEED them. Within two months they will have steep discounts through digital sales, and you can rack up a sweet library of games by watching the sales
for all the great games that have come out in the last couple of years. Every Tuesday at noon my routine is to check the new sales on both systems,
at this point I'm pretty sure I'm up to well over 150 games between the two systems thanks to sick sales and the PS Plus free games, Free
with Gold, and EA Access games. I could easily never buy another game again and be set for life. Of course I'm an idiot and will keep buying
though.
EDIT to add backwards compatibility is a huge deal because you can get games you missed in the previous gen for so so cheap. I picked up Fallout 3
and New Vegas for like $6 each, Stick of Truth for $5 or something, the online store will have sick deals on 360 games.
