Final Fantasy XV

I was just going to through this in the "Games You're Playing" thread, but it's the first Final Fantasy game that isn't an MMO or an off-shoot of that awful 13 game in over five years. It comes out tomorrow, unless you pre-ordered it from a retailer who decided to ship it through the mail and hope it got there on the release date (spoiler: that's me and I got it before). I've put in a little over an hour and I can safely say that, in that hour, I feel more connected to these four ridiculously named guys than I did any character in 13, and, for that matter, more connected than a quite a few games that have come out between this and 12, which I consider the last good Final Fantasy game.

Graphically, it looks above average on the gameplay side and downright amazing with cutscenes, and the combat actually seems like Square is learning: either go all the way old fashion with the combat or go live action with a dodge button. The only seeming drawback that I haven't gotten far enough to confirm or deny but have read from a few reviews is that the story lacks background in some areas and expects you to have done some extra research by either watching the Kingsglaive feature they released on DVD a month or so ago or by watching their anime series.

But so far it is as fleshed out a game as I've played in a while and definitely seems like the step in the right direction they needed after 13.

I haven't played a Final Fantasy since VII but the reviews thus far have me interested in this one. Pretty much what you say - Definitely flawed but the good easily outweighs the bad. I may make this my return to the Final Fantasy series but then again I just started a game on the Witcher III so it may be 2017 before it happens.

I would recommend Kingsglaive as far as something to watch either before or during playing. Not only does it seem to flesh out happenings after your character leaves home, it is also a pleasant surprise as far as a movie (though graphically it seems to fluctuate with some characters between stock CGI and well fleshed out models). Either rent it or get the Deluxe edition (it includes the Bluray and extra DLC stuff).
