Ringling Bros/Barnum Bailey closing

I figured I'd bring some attention to a circus of a different type under the headlines section for a change... (fyi there is an AutoPlay on a video at the top of the story)

https://www.thestar.com/entertainment/2017/01/15/ringling-bros-circus-to-close-after-146-years.html

This is a shame; I have a lot of fond memories of going to the circus as a child and while I haven't been in quite a long time it was something I was looking forward to one day taking my various nieces and nephews to once they got a bit older... even as an adult and aspiring writer there was something exotic, and fascinating about the secret world of traveling spectacle and showmanship which included a whole vocabulary (Carney speak) training, and a host of other secrets.

146 years is an incredible legacy for the Greatest Show on Earth, one that finds part of its roots in part to one of histories greatest showmen PT Barnum (maybe one of histories bigger exploiters too...). The irony is that right as the real deal is closing Hollywood has once again turned it's eye to the circus with a major biographical pic' of Barnum due out this year.

I know the history of the circus is filled with some questionable activity when it comes to the care of use of animals, but a traveling road show of lions, tigers, bears, and elephants was also the only way that many children got to see them and there's no accounting for how many dreams that may have launched.
