Would it damage the Rumble to book a proper underdog to win?
Considering the match is, what, 30 years old, wouldn't the law of averages suggest it has to be won at some point by a flukey underdog? Even in
the kayfabe world?
I don't keep up with the product to suggest who exactly, but considering the misjudgments/blatant trolling/boringly linear Road To Wrestlemania
scenarios created from the WWE's booking of recent winners, wouldn't this shake things up a bit? We've had #1 win, #30, the obvious
favourite going in etc. Why not a nobody who was in the right place at the right time?
You can easily rob the scrub of his WM title match with shenanigans over the next few weeks of tv/whatever the next PPV is called. Or it can be used
to build someone, seeing as it is probably the only non-title-belt accolade to have (the Streak finally ended and KOTR being meh).
Any thoughts on this and/or who'd you book?
I remember when the Rumble to WM corridor was an exciting ride (a long, long time ago, in booking galaxy far, far away), but I think short of shaking
up the general predictability of the Rumble format itself (i'e': 25 no-hopers, 4 possible winners and the one you know will win but hope
they see the light and eliminate early), these few weeks leading up to WM are just the annual "how do we get all the part-timers back in the mix for
one night with minimal benefit for those who will come back to work the next day?" craptacular. But that's another rant for another day.

They did tease it a few years back with Santino ....personally I think Randy Orton is one of the weaker winners they have had in a long time based on
what his character is doing right now. Sheamus was fairly weak as was Alberto Del Rio.
With that said I think if you booked someone like a ascention member to win the Royal Rumble..... the internet would break.

Done correctly, it could be monumental. Meaning someone who may be an afterthought right now but has legit potential. In 2017, the ideal
outtanowhere winner would have been... Big E. Part of a tag team so not in the forefront of anyone's mind, yet already considered formidable
and a Rumble win by him would have elevated him greatly while still being believable.

That was the purpose of the King of the Ring tournament. Take a guy on the midcard and launch them into the upper midcard/main event scene.
I don't think the WWE would be willing to do that with an event as big as the Rumble. I don't know if they would use it as a vehicle to
get someone over rather than set up an already established star for a title push.
I would say that winning the Rumble would have been an amazing way to debut both Samoa Joe AND AJ Styles.
