RIP John Wetton

Former King Crimson, UK, and Asia bassist/vocalist John Wetton passed away this morning. I knew he was having some issues with cancer - was going to skip part of a tour to rest/recover.

Darn. Used to listen to that first Asia tape over and over and over again back in 1982 when I was delivering papers.

You know, everyone says it's not supposed to make sense, like that's the whole point, dude. And I'm just saying, you know, that's like an excuse for lazy storytelling. Just don't sell me shite and tell me it's gold, all right? I might be stoned, but I'm not high. You know what I mean?

I too was a big fan of that first Asia album. I didn't even get into Yes/Rush/King Crimson until much later, so that album was my first real exposure to prog-style music (I was 6 and my parents weren't hip, so it's not like Pink Floyd was playing in my house).

I haven't listened to it in years. I miss that kind of sound, definitely. RIP to Wetton.
