A WM writeup from a first-time watcher
An interesting juxtaposition between the minds of smarks like us versus a newbie's regarding wrestling. I found the wrestling fatigue the
author felt with the Rollins/HHH match interesting - she found it hard to watch, while most of us may have wanted more violence.

I read this a few days ago and thought it was pretty delightful. My girlfriend (who doesn't watch wrestling but knows the characters) read it
and thought it was great as well. She loved that Bayley was described as "the Lisa Frank of wrestling".

Sounds like she skipped the pre-show and still was fatigued before the show was over. WWE should really work on tirmming that.

I found this highly entertaining. It's how I imagine my wife would react if I ever convinced her to watch a WWE show all the way through, which
I never, ever will.

But we need 8
hr manias because pissbreaks and... Sorry, I'm being a twat. I'll stop.
In other words, for a show aimed at "the casuals" to be up around 7hrs or so of runtime is pretty fucking contradictory.

The average run time for a PPV used to be somewhere in the area of 2hr45min. I haven't watched too much wrestling recently, but I think
it's about the same nowadays. Interestingly this is also the average time for a UFC PPV. I think making Mania more like 3hr45min is ample time
to settle feuds and round out the card for a bigger feel... more than this is a bit of overkill.
I watched this year's Mania with our old beloved FFC, and we skipped forward a bit (I arrived at his place after 8pm.) Even for old wrestling
nerds it was a bit much. We skipped forward a bit here and there. By the end I was like "Make it stop!" due to having to wake up sober the next day,
and I really didn't want to watch Reigns vs Taker.
Six hours is pretty nuts.

There is nothing wrong with having an 8-hour Wrestlemania as long as you pace yourself. However, if you want to avoid spoilers and you're
addicted to internet wrestling news or online forums, or social media, that may present a problem. It took me about 9 days to work my way through
Wrestlemania, from the beginning of the pre-show to the end. I watched one match the Wednesday after Wrestlemania, and then a few matches at a time
over the weekend and once or twice last week before finally finishing the show on Friday, nearly two weeks after it aired.
To avoid spoilers, I actively avoided social media for the first few days after the event and I did not log onto wrestling news websites or the OO
Forums until after I finished watching the event. It worked. Nothing was ruined for me, and I think I may have enjoyed the show much more than most
people as I didn't suffer fatigue from trying to consume an 8-hour program in one sitting, nor did I suffer from wrestling overload.
I have nothing but good things to say about the show, for the most part. I think that is due in part to way I chose to view the event and also due in
part to my tastes/preferences differing from others. On the negative side, I thought the battle royal sucked, the RAW women's title match was
too short, Wyatt vs. Orton was boring and very disappointing, and the the Smackdown women's match felt like a waste of time. The only one of
those negatives that really stand out to me as a serious blow to the quality of the show was the terrible match between Wyatt and Orton. On the
positive side, AJ vs. Shane was excellent, as was KO vs. Jericho and the ladder match. The Hardy Boys surprise was awesome. The mixed tag team match
was thoroughly entertaining, and no small part because of The Miz playing to the crowd. While I thought the RAW Women's match was too short, I
still thought it was pretty good. Triple H vs. Seth Rollins was good. I enjoy The Undertaker's send off, and I think I liked the match far more
than most. And, dare I say it, Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar was the best match of the night. I read opinions in the other thread and it seems like
everyone is shitting on it, but I thought it was fantastic. I had extremely low expectations and it easily surpassed them. I had hoped that Goldberg
would have kicked out of the F5 and that they traded finishers once more, but that's a very minor complaint.
I may have lost my patience with the show had I tried to watch it all at once. I could have very easily seen Triple H vs. Seth Rollins becoming a
turning point that would have lost it for me had I already been watching it for 4-5 hours, as the pace of that match was slow at time. And with how
bad Wyatt vs. Orton was, that may have permanently turned me against the show, as the only truly great that came after it was Goldberg vs. Lesnar, but
as it was only 5-minutes long, it would have been like a short sugar rush that would have burned off with the Smackdown Women's match that tried
to do way too much with too little time. Fortunately, by spacing out the matches, I was able to enjoy the show much more and the matches that did not
stand out as being anything special didn't turn me off of the entire event.

I'm sorry, but... Did you not see the ludicrous irony in what you said? It took you NINE DAYS to watch a wrestling PPV. This is not
Scandal/NCIS/Designated Survivor/etc. It's something that's supposed to be watched "live" and with the live crowd (in attendance AND in
living-rooms) in mind. Not "a season's worth of television episodes to be binge-watched, or strung out over a week of mini-binges."

No, I didn't see the irony in it. As it stands, it usually takes me 2-3 days to watch a 3-hour wrestling PPV. When you bump it up to 8-9 hours,
it stands to reason that it would take me three times as long to view the entire thing. Some days, I don't have to time to watch wrestling. I
have other interests and commitments that take up my time. The wonderful thing about modern technology is that you can consume the product whenever it
is convenient for you. I've taken advantage of that, especially since the WWE Network launched. I never watch the events as they are happening.
As you are from Canada East, you can appreciate that staying up until midnight or 1:00 am to watch a PPV on Sunday night, and then have to get up
early the next day to go to work - and in my case to have to go deal with pre-teens and teenagers all day - is no fun. So, I don't even bother.
And unless I'm there watching it live - like I was last year in Dallas - I don't have the patience to watch the entire thing in one
sitting. I didn't mind spending 8-hours at Cowboy Stadium. I would have lost my mind if I tried to watch the same event in one sitting at home.
Although might be meant to be watched live, if you aren't watching it with a giant group of people, then it makes no difference whether you
watch it live or later. As long as you don't know the results or anything else that happened, there's really no difference at all. The
matches happen, the live crowd makes noise, it's a typical sports entertainment event, not unlike all the others.

Okay, stop talking about "you" specifically, because most people don't want to (or can't) spend 3 days watching 3 hours. Especially not
the people in LIVE attendance. They're tethered to the product in front of them, not watching it on DVR.
You're awfully close to playing the "I don't have a problem, so I can't see how it's a problem" card. Like, "avoid
spoilers, social media, your friends, your cousin who watches all the shows when they happen, etc, and you can easily do what I do!" Except that for
a lot of people who actually use social media on a daily basis (for whatever myriad reasons), it might be impractical to avoid their whole facebook
timeline-thing just because they don't want the undercard spoilered for a week. I understand your particular situation, because you're
explaining it well. But I think you're misapprehending the WWEUniverse/Average People.

I finally got around to reading the article and it was such a fun read! I'm still not sure if she was really THAT unfamiliar with the product
but it was amusing either way.
It's also interesting to hear the perspective of a new or more casual fan. My 5 year old son watched about half of the show with me and it was
fun to see his reactions and answer his questions because it freshens things up for me too.
