Matt "Rosey" Anoa'i Passes Away @ age 47
Cause of death was congestive heart failure. R.I.P.
WWE Statement...
quote: WWE is saddened to learn that Matt Anoai, known to fans as Rosey, has passed away at age 47. The son of WWE Hall of Famer Sika and older
brother of WWE Superstar Roman Reigns, Rosey grew up in the legendary Anoai wrestling dynasty.
He debuted in 2002 alongside his cousin Jamal as part of 3-Minute Warning. The imposing, powerful tandem tore through Raws tag team division before
going their separate ways. Rosey then formed a beloved superhero duo with The Hurricane, which culminated in his first World Tag Team Championship
reign.
The Anoai family shared the following statement:
The Anoai family is mourning the loss of Sikas son, Matt aka Rosey, due to an untimely death. We want to let his fans know that he loved them and
the wrestling world so much. In his passing, he left three beautiful young children and a heartbroken family. Please respect the privacy of his
children and family as they mourn the loss of this kind, loving, gentle man, who was a father, son, brother and a superhero to us all. Our family
appreciates your prayers and continued support during this very difficult time."
WWE extends its condolences to Roseys family, friends and fans.

RIP Rosey Reigns. (in my head that's what his WWE name would be if he ever came back). I liked 3MW and even more, I liked his stint as the
SHIT.

Here's presumably a recent-ish photo of him with Roman:
Hate to say it but it looks like the weight struggle probably finally got to him. He got just way too big, even for a Samoan.

That is way too young to go.
Also, the pessimist in me is worried that people who really hate Roman Reigns are gonna use this as fuel to give him further shit, despite the fact
that he just lost his older brother.

I went to high school with Matt and he was my friend. He was the nicest guy around and loved all his friends and family dearly. He had struggled with
weight and heart problems for the last few years and it got away from him. He used to play football and I remember seeing Sika at a game Friday night
and then fight Hulk Hogan the next night. I remember the Dynasty would show up and watch him at every game, they were these giant islanders in the
stands and I can only assume little Joe was there among them. When I wasmany inches shorter and pounds lighter, I'd see him over all the other
kids many feet ahead of me in the breezeways of Escambia High and start running fast as I could and leap up on his back. And he'd look back like
a squirrel fell on him from a tree and just carry me down the hall.

Yeah. The unfortunate thing about any fandom is that there is always at least a few cunts in any audience that are so shitty and vile on the inside
that they'll have no problem sinking to that level.

Just from looking at that pic of him and Reigns though he clearly was struggling with his weight. Or hell I don't know maybe he didn't
think he was and just throttled up Samoan style and thought he would be okay. Sucks for his kids and family.
And the pessimist in me thinks the WWE will somehow use this to their advantage in a clumsy attempt to re-faceify Reigns once word of mouth gets out.

I'm pretty sure Rosey knew about his weight issues. He was on The Biggest Loser a couple of years back.
Eli, thanks for sharing your memories of him.

Eli, that is an awesome story about an apparently-awesome guy. Hurricane & Rosey were indeed the shit. I mean that in the good way, like "THE
SHIT!" and not "shitty". I always wondered what Rosey's hero-name would be once he graduated from training. Maybe we can posthumously
declare him to be "Mister Nice Guy"? It seems to fit, from what little I know about him.
I feel bad for his family & friends.

He did graduate. That photo up there with the tag belts was him in his superhero costume... his SHIT outfit looked more like plain, shabby clothing.
I don't remember him having an actual hero name though. I think he was just called Rosey.
Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.

Punker is correct. He was just called Rosey the whole time when he was both in training and after graduation. Although, Hurricane called him
"Roosevelt".

Okay, so he did graduate. But you're not a TRUE superhero until you get your nom-de-heroics. He got shortchanged.

I laughed.
I also really appreciated Eli's story.
If there's a silver lining to any of this, it's that we've finally progressed to where a wrestler passing away before age 50 is
something of a surprising novelty again and not just a thing where we go "yeah, not surprised". These younger deaths seem to be getting more and
more infrequent and as this current crop ages I think that will continue to be the trend. Hopefully the days of every third wrestler we like dropping
dead between 40 and 50 are well behind us.

I got another story about him.
He and another fella in my high school, we'll call him Jim, were beefing over a girl. Jim was jealous over Matt and the girl having a legit
relationship from what I understand. The girl was so trashy hot too. 80s metal hair, bleach blond with roots, sky blue eyes, petite and TIG OLE
BITTIES. She was like 5'1 and the titties were like Es. You could hardly even see her behind them. Certainly a lass a Pensacola boy would get
jealous of.
So it was decided that there would be a fight. And I am talking one of those, "meet after school at a certain place at a certain time" type fights.
Essentially, the closest thing to a PPV our school had. It was hyped all day. Jim was big, played football, but Matt was just taller, stronger,
heavier and more popular. Clearly the face. Everybody loved him. His dad was Sika for fuck's sake.
Our cafeteria had round tables that forced us into cliques. I ate lunch with Jim and he was going over his strategy with us. When the clear size
difference was brought up, Jim's response was, "I just gotta STICK and move, STICK and move."
Well, the fight happened in a church parking lot right by the school and it drew quite a crowd. Matt just immediately got a hold of Jim and sat on
him. No way Jim was getting out from under him. He pounded his face several times and only stopped when Jim's head started bouncing off the
pavement. It was a total squash.
Jim didn't stick or move.
The universe seems neither benign nor hostile, merely indifferent.

Fuck Jim.
I miss Super Hero In Training nonsense around ambulance violence. I don't know why I was thinking about 3MW the other day, but I was. Actually
wondering about the "other" member. I forgot how entertaining he was. Sucks it happened. RIP Rosey. I remember when he graduated to the almost
Kane-style mask. I hated it....the "earning" mask was awesome. Great performer as a face and heel. Very athletic. I'm sad.
