How to pick between two jobs?
So I'm having a particular dilemma.
Just to get the backstory out of the way, I live in a third world shithole with limited opportunities. One of the best paying jobs is working for a
Call Center. This particular one is specialized in the trucking business, having us negotiate with truckers to get customers' shit moved at the
cheapest price. I end up really getting along with two guys from a trucking company, Jack and Carl. Carl and Jack stop working together and Carl flat
out offers me Jack's job(for a reduced salary of course). The Call Center is laying off people like crazy so I decide to get off the sinking
ship before it's too late and take Carl's offer.
Working with Carl he tells me all this shit about Jack, a thief, asshole, shitty friend, I just listen and keep working. Through a series of events I
end up fired, partially his fault, partially mine. Out of the kindness of his heart Carl pays me twice the worth of a month's work(severance
package I guess) and tells me he will call me back in two months with a new job offer. I try looking for something else in the mean time.
Out of the blue Jack contacts me, asks me how's it going and offers me a job as his nightime secretary. Trucking business is a 24/7 job as
customers and your own drivers will call you at all hours, so to get peace of mind, Jack offers to pay me to just take his calls at night and the
weekends. Just install the US Phone# in my cellphone and if something pops up, handle it. I'm unemployed and got nothing going on. So fuck
it.
Job turns out to be a breeze as calls come like once every 2 nights(odd hours though) and Jack is a pretty awesome boss. Offering to pay me weekly
despite the Paypal fees and is constantly reminding me that once an opening for a day job pops up in his company, he'll throw it my way. He also
can't stop shittalking Carl. These two DO NOT like each other.
Out of the blue, Carl gets back in contact(a month and half after the time he'd call back) and first offers me the exact same nighttime gig.
Fucking awesome! But two weeks in, he says he needs me back during the day and because my performance last time wasn't up to his standard,
he's offering to pay for a week long trip from my country to the USA and get trained in his office.
I know that working as one of his daytime truck managers will have me interact with all of his employees and customers and someway, somehow it will
get back to Jack. Hell, I already one their shared customers already recognized my voice and said ''you working for Jack
now?cool.'' So right now, I'm undecided on what to do.
Do I try my luck and work both jobs and see how long I can make money from both? Do I take the better money and leave the easy but not so great paying
job with Jack? Carl has fired me before so do I hold on to the boss who hasn't sent me packing?
Here's the raw numbers to put some context into this. $500 for the nightime job(little above our minimum wage) vs atleast$1000 for the day time
job(almost 3x minimum wage). Also, I'll negotiate with Carl and see if I can get $1500-$1250 since it sounds like I'll have a heavier work
load this time around.
As I said, I live in a shithole and what I decide on Monday might be the most important decision of my life. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Yeah that's a tough one... the two of them sound kind of volatile... I started to write a bunch, but the more I read it the more useless it
sounded, so I'll just wish you good luck.

"...he's offering to pay for a week long trip from my country to the USA and get trained in his office."
Well, just stay here then and don't go back. Welcome aboard! Lol, j/k that might not be possible now.
Are we talkin' Venezuela-On-Fire type shithole? Head-chopper type shithole? Walmart product production facility type shithole? Or cerveza con
siesta type shithole? Do you have an ultimate goal of leaving said shithole at some point?
What does your financial status dictate you do? Easy is nice, but making bank while you can (and are young, I'm assuming) is far more important.
Do you have the skills necessary to sustain yourself at another occupation in case you do both, they find out, and the whole operation goes tits up?
What would your plan C be?
My Stellar Advice: Figure out what you'd make in individual scenarios from -
a) Carl
b) Jack
c) Carl and Jack
...then extrapolate minus your living expenses based on how long you could pull off a, b, or c. For example, would doing c) for as long as you could
and in, say, 3 months, they found out and both canned you work out better financially anyway than just doing a) or b) for 7 months? Man, this
is the math problem they warned us about in grade school. This would be a lot easier if you had bushels of coconuts on one train headed towards
another train carrying crates full of cantaloupes and we had to figure out which trespassing homeless meth drifter on what train was going to rapestab
his travelling buddy to death first. But I digress...
Would them potentially shitcanning you have an adverse word-of-mouth effect in this industry if you wanted to work with a third party doing the same
shit?
Bottom line: If it's not a career, I'd suggest making the most you can the fastest you can with your plan for What The Fuck To Do Next
being designed and implemented simultaneously.

Flash, as somebody whose trying to analyze this from all angles. Feel free to share any and all ramblings.
janer, right now my plan is just getting my hands on all the fancy ''start your own business'' books I can and figure out what
I can do on my own while I'm making money from these unique opportunities. I've flirted with the idea of leaving my beloved shithole, but
immigration is ridiculously expensive and I'd rather keep on slumping it here till the kind of money to apply for immigration is something I can
afford to invest in without worrying about bills or being completely cleaned out.
With another day to think about it, I'm thinking on letting Jack in on my double work life but keeping Carl in the dark. Jack is far more calm
and even off-handely asked to keep what I do for his company private so he might have already guessed I'd work for Carl again. If he's
content staying in the loop then I'll guess I'll have my more secure job in the backburner while I'll try to make as much money as
possible from Carl before shit hits the fan.
To give you an idea of my situation. I'm 25 years old, got a Bachelor's Degree in Tourism Business Management and physical demanding work
is off the table till I go through some pricey physical therapy to try and get back my strength in my left wrist(accident two years back).
Oh and it's a mixture of Walmart production shithole mixed in with Cereveza and a Siesta. It's Honduras. Most of it is a hellhole but I do
whole heartdely recommend the Bay Islands if you're looking for a Carribean Vacation but the actual Carribean is too expensive.

I am Jack's Overnight Secretary.
I've heard Honduras is really really rough. My Jamaican buddy married a lady from there and the stories of violence.....beautiful people,
though.
Sounds like you figured it out.

It is a nasty place with colorful deaths happening everyday but you get used to it I guess. Know which neighborhoods to avoid, know when bad company
has arrived at a bar or whatever so you better leave, etc. Even dating is a hassle as seemingly normal people turn out to be the daughters of drug
dealers, moonlight as escorts, or self righteous gold diggers who are trying to survive. College sucked...
On a brief update, I decided to ask Carl for a big increase in salary since I have my other job as a back up. Tomorrow we talk and negotiate, since
I'm not looking forward to the big workload I might just stay firm on my rate. Meanwhile, instead of being honest with Jack, I had a lightbulb
moment and asked him if he would like for him to archive his work and take his Saturday shit for a $250 bump in salary. Still have to hear back from
him aswell.

I'm not sure why I'm so shocked to learn you live in Honduras. I guess I didn't have any reason to think that you *weren't*
from there, but still.

We are a pretty low key country. Colombia and Mexico get all the attention regarding wild drug cartels and beautiful women, and Costa Rica is the
hidden paradise, perfect for people looking to retire somewhere safe and pretty at a pretty price.
Update no.3, both guys haven't given a direct answer regarding my salary request and raise. I guess now it's just the waiting game. Carl
did tell me to get that plane tickets and he'll pay me back as soon as it's done so atleast I got a few days in USA to look forward to.
