Merchandising!

So, I bought a shitload of WWE shirts today as part of my holiday haul - my wife and I pick out some of our own presents, because we're picky adults who would rather get what we actually want than leave our partner guessing. There'll be one or two surprises, but that's more of a gamble and we want to make sure we genuinely like at least some of the stuff.

The kid gets no say. She gets what she gets.

Anyway, it got me wondering what kind of wrestling merch and gear people on the board owned and bought. Before today, all I'd ever had were a Macho Man shirt, some wrestling figures (Goldberg, Sting, HHH and Jeff Hardy) I got back in the early 2000s and a Goldberg shirt my mom bought me in college.

My haul today was all t-shirts, since they're having a 40 percent off sale:

For me: Aleister Black (Fade to Black), Kevin Owens (the classic KO shirt), Asuka (Empress of Tomorrow), Cactus Jack (Wanted poster), Dean Ambrose (DA logo), Bray Wyatt (Era of Wyatt with the big squid), Xavier Woods' Up Up Down Down, Samoa Joe (Right Hand of Destruction) and the centerpiece, a Happy Rusev Day shirt for which I had to pay full price because it was a pre-order.

For the wife: Dolph Ziggler (All the Way), Alexa Bliss (Little Miss Bliss), Becky Lynch (100% Bad Lass), Sanity, Dean Ambrose (No Good Dean Goes Unhinged), Shinsuke Nakamura (The Artist) and Finn Balor (Balor Club). She really wanted a Nia Jax "Not Like Most Girls", but they were out of her size.

I was very amused that a signed picture of Roman Reigns costs THIRTY DOLLARS. I like Roman even but wtf.

I looked at title belts because I'm a fucking nerd but I couldn't swallow paying those prices. Good fucking god.

The last shirt I got was when Triple H was working with Shawn Michael's on his last run. Bought at a house show. Before that was a PPV in Denver... Angle, Big Show and Brock triple threat. Before that I had a Hollywood Hogan, NWO (original), and an NWO half red half white. I'm sure I had a Stone Cold 3:16 shirt at one time but too few brain cells left to remember when... I'm old.... sigh.

Ive bought less than 5 pieces of merchandise in my life. Haha. I had an Austin shirt in high school and I bought a $12 World Title a few years ago to mock my buddies as the champion of my fantasy football league. Last year I did get a Cena PBR shirt cause it was funny and bought my nephew a Dean Ambrose shirt because hes a lunatic in training.

I've gotten a couple of t-shirts over the past few years. Suplex City, Classic KO, Macho Man, and an Adam Rose shirt are what I currently have. I also bought a Wyatt Family Sheep Mask and my wife got me a Rey Mysterio knock off mask in Mexico.

My problem is buying way to many pop figures including a bunch of WWE (Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio, and Macho Man)

It's on my bucket list to one day buy one of those replica title bets, but yeah, holy shit are they expensive. Even something like the Cruiserweight title costs $400 on WWE.com.

The last merch I bought was about a year or two ago - the classic pink Macho Man t-shirt and the New Day Unicorn.

Before that, it had been a long time since I'd bought merch. A lot of it is because I dislike most wrestling t-shirts. But the ones I did have (and I don't have any of them anymore):

Edge and Christian's yellow "Reeks of Awesomeness" shirt, Tazz's orange "13" shirt, 2 Rey Mysterio shirts (a black one with the mask details in red, and a red one with a white silhouette near the bottom), the old Jake The Snake green shirt, and a WrestleMania 2000 hockey-style jersey. I also have a non-WWE Rey Mysterio mask that in white/powder blue/gold (go Chargers!) and a La Parka mask.

I've bought a few $12 toy belts and altered them to become Fantasy Football belts. I still have a "Big Gold" toy belt, that is currently around the waist of a giant stuffed Yoshi doll (the dinosaur, not Yoshi Tatsu) in my office.

The one or two t-shirts I wouldn't mind having but just haven't spent the money on are were the maroon Daniel Bryan "Yes" shirt, the Cactus Jack "Wanted Dead" shirt.

Has anyone ever owned a WCW t-shirt that wasn't an NWO shirt? Most of those were just terrible!

I recently bought my first 2 WWE shirts.. The New Shield & a Pete Dunne Bruiserweight one. I just wish there were more options for most WWE shirts other than black

Before that, I had a red/black NWO shirt way back when & I have 3 or 4 shirts form OSW, the local indy fed.

I have a black AJ Styles shirt with his P1 logo on the front and nothing on the back. That's the best kind of wrestling shirt, just a simple logo and nothing else. I also have this Shinsuke Nakamura shirt, which is another simple and good looking design. And I have the 8-bit style Kenny The Cleaner shirt from Hot Topic. I used to have this CM Punk shirt, but it got dingy after years of wearing it so I retired it.

One of the things I hate most about wrestling shirts (particularly from WWF/E) is the need to have something on the back, usually a catchphrase, which almost always sounds really stupid out of the context of a wrestling show.

That's pretty much the reason why I've always avoided getting a wrestling shirt... I don't mind the WWE logo badge they sometimes stick down low at the waist line, but yeah... so many great shirts ruined by something dumb, messy, or just god awful on the back.

I did have a Goldberg shirt, as I said. It was just a close-up of his head with his mouth wide open, screaming. It was both pretty cheesy but kind of cool at the same time. The best WCW t-shirt was "Eddie Guerrero Is My Favorite Wrestler".

I had a Stone Cold Steve Austin T-shirt and a Monday Night RAW baseball cap in high school, but I never really wore either of them and I'm not sure I even paid for the latter (I knew a guy who was somehow connected to the events team at the venue where RAW took place locally). I have a Monday Night Jericho shirt that I bought at a thrift store in 2002 or so and still wear on rare occasions as I don't want to wear it out anymore than I already have. And I've got a cheap title belt that I bought a couple years ago when I went as the Iron Sheik for Halloween.

I've also got Hulk Hogan and Kane action figures on my desk at work, but those were both bought from toy shows.

Oh man, I've had a TON of wrestling shirts over the years.

My first one was an Undertaker one from when I was about 13 years old.

Through HS I had a DX (the original S*ck It! shirt), an NWO Wolfpac, an ECW (the main one that said "Politically Incorrect and Damn Proud of it!"), a Brood shirt (which was pretty awesome) and a Class of 3:16 (front) "School of Hard Knocks" (back) shirt. I still wear some of these as workout shirts, lol.

I've had a Christian- Captain Charisma ("That's How I Roll") shirt for over 10 years that I still wear regularly.

Let's see... what else. An Eddie Guerrero shirt (it just had a drawn pic of him on the front. The graphic looked cool); a Radicalz shirt (b/c I was a huge mark for all those guys back in the day); an Edge shirt (the one from right after he retired with all his accomplishments on it); two HBK shirts "Source of Strength" and "Armed for Battle"; a DragonGate USA shirt, an ROH shirt and hoodie; a TNA shirt; Brock Lesnar "Suplex City" with New York on it; a Daniel Bryan "Yes! Yes! Yes!" shirt; two CM Punk shirts (his main one and another cool looking one) and the most recent was a Bullet Club shirt.

Then not officially licensed but Joelthecat made my bachelor party shirt which was basically an NWO shirt but it says "New Wedding Order" and has the match listing for "WeddingMania" on it, that I still wear regularly to this day. I always get "Too Sweet" comments and hand signs everytime I wear that one out.

But as many shirts as I have/had, I would have so many more if some of the designs on the back weren't so bad (a complaint many of you have already made). I'm sure WWE would make SOOOOO much more money if they made some of their t-shirts more subtle. I don't need the wrestler's name or an extra catchphrase emblazened on the back. For example, I love the "Yes" shirt but I wish it didn't have the huge ring with Daniel Bryan's name on the back. Less is so much more sometimes.

Oh, I almost forgot - I have a Mankind action figure that I had in storage for a while, until my girlfriend bought a Mick Foley-made Socko right around the same time we got autographed 8x10s when he came out to Seattle to do his stand up show. In our apartment, we have those Ikea bookshelves that are those box-grid things, and one of the spots is our tribute to Mick.

I still have a Jeff Jarrett "listen up slap nuts" shirt. I bought it live at fall brawl in Buffalo NY. At the time I found it hilarious, now I just crack a smile when I see it in my drawer.

Oh geez, just realized I only listed t-shirts.

I also have the WWF Winged Eagle Heavyweight championship belt and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship (the WWE Big Gold belt) replicas.

And I currently have three action figures (still in package) displayed at my computer desk- Daniel Bryan, CM Punk and Austin Aries. I just bought an AJ Styles, but don't have the room to display yet.

Besides VHS' of events I never owned much. I had a Rockers headband when I was little and a pair of Warrior sweat bands. I got one Tommy Dreamer shirt at a live event in the mid 2000s but that was it.

A buddy put me onto this site though with a ton of old school merchandise.

Most of the WCW shirts did suck pretty bad, but I convinced myself to buy a DDP shirt and a Monday Night Jericho shirt.
