Couldn't be

1. Lucky is in prison, presumably being raped hourly
2. After professing his love for Nick Swisher, Lucky is banned from all Yankees games

Off the top of my head, too, the only others I could think of would be Ivan Rodriguez and Ichiro. There's gotta be few more than that, though. Was Pudge ever linked to steroids, besides Canseco's book?

Yeah, Pudge's only link is Canseco's book, which I'm sure, considering some of the self-righteous douche's who vote, is damnable evidence enough. To be honest, I keep forgetting about Ichiro, but yeah, even though he's not a Yankee, he brought Japanese exposure to the MLB, which, with his great play, I would think would justify him being at least a second ballot guy, if not a first ballot guy.

Pudge never failed a test as far as I know, but he did play on those Canseco/Palmerio teams in Texas. Between that and Canseco's book, sure that puts alot of doubt in people's minds. I'd still easily vote him in, but you know there are voters who have suspicions.

Yeah, the only evidence is circumstantial. And that should never hold up, especially since Pudge, more or less, has remained the same size over his career and produced a pretty even career by Hall of Fame standards (declines at the right ages, good numbers in his prime, and that one good-but-not-great season in his twilight that most Hall of Famers usually have). But, to re-emphasize, the voters we're talking about are the most unreasonable, egotistical human beings on the planet. Any group of people who withhold votes because "Oh, so-and-so didn't get THAT many votes and he was pretty good" are not the type of people that respond favorably to circumstantial stuff (well, unless you're A-Rod, at which point as long as you date a bunch of celebrities and are a Yankee, they'll conveniently forget the stuff he did that they crucify others for).

Pudge really does deserve to go in, and I think he's really smart for stretching his career out so he can not only "go for 3,000 hits" (however unlikely that is), but he can get people to forget about Jose Canseco's book completely.

Has Thome ever been linked to steroids? He is another sure fire guy to get in

Is Doc there yet? The guy is on pace for 200+ wins 2000+ strikeouts. Plus a playoff no-no and a perfect game in the same season. Also, I think there's something to be said for being considered the best pitcher alive for a decent stretch.

Also, I think pitchers who are not linked to steroids who pitched in the juiced era will be considered with higher regard then people with comparable stats from other eras.

I'd just like to point out the Pirates will be alone in first place two consecutive days. In July.

And here I thought the world was ending next year.

The one thing annoying me about baseball right now is that the Pirates have been at or around first place multiple times this year and, yet, every time ESPN has a piece about the trade deadline, the first thing the idiot talking always says is "I don't think the Pirates are a serious enough contender to be buyers yet." Are you fucking kidding me?? They're in first right now! They don't even have a healthy team and yet they're winning and, whats more, they're beating the rest of the NL Central teams in the process! Yet, somehow, the Reds are two under .500 and should be preparing as though they're a World Series shoo-in. It maddens me that these guys get paid more than me to be dumber that me in a subject I only occasionally glance at.

Yeah, it's one of those things where the analysts just refuse to believe they'll have even the slightest chance of riding out the season in first place, based on their past almost-20-years of complete futility.

Oh, and on another note-- I thought of another active guy who hasn't been linked to steroids, who will certainly make the Hall of Fame: Chipper Jones.

It's becoming increasingly obvious that if any team in the AL Comedy Central was a real baseball team, they'd have already wrapped the division up. It's hard to watch these games as they really just break down into "which team is gonna fuck things up more" - it's like kids playing the game out there when two of 'em go head-to-head. Ugh.

But hey, Justin Verlander. So he's awesome.

I'm currently watching the BoSox/ChiSox game and I just have to say that I really, really fucking hate Ken Harrelson. It's not even the homerism or the stupid catchphrases that bother me. It's his use of the word "we" when referring to the team. "We put two runs on the board this inning, but we missed a golden opportunity for more." What a fucking choade.

Wow. I think we all knew the Astros sucked this year, but there's over a month left in the season, and they are officially out of the playoffs - eliminated from both the NL Central pennant, as well as the Wild Card. Meanwhile, the Padres have finally started playing decently, but it's almost definitely too little, too late.

So...yeah, maybe it's just that Lucky is a wanted fugitive or maybe its because this season was mostly predictable around April, but man, this season kinda sucked. I guess on one hand it's good to know that the worst a playoff team can finish this year is 88 wins (which is unlikely, with the Wild Card leaders being AT 88 wins with 6 days left in the season) rather than a random team clinching a Wild Card or one of the Central or West divisions at .500, but to be honest, I really didn't care even a little bit about this season other than when Jeter got hit 3,000. Maybe it's because the Cubs, who I had zero expectation in doing well anyways, managed to take those non-existent expectations and somehow do worse than I expected (seriously, they call up all their rookies in September and their hairless manager decides to sit most of them in favor of the underachieving vets that earned that surefire 90 loss season...never mind the fact that there was no reason to keep him around once they fired their jackass GM earlier in the season...yet they kept him around long enough to NOT make any trades at the trade deadline before firing him).

Since I'm sure whatever post-season thread is created won't be too big, I'll make my prediction here: Phillies/Yankees World Series matchup, Phillies in 5.

Yeah, as shit as this season has been for Los Angeles, there's been a big reason to watch every five days. He may or may not win the Cy Young, but it's been amazing to watch Kershaw mature into one of the top pitchers in all of baseball. It was only about two years ago when there was a lot of talk that he had control issues and walked too many people. Even if he doesn't win the award, the dude just turned 23 this year. He'll get it eventually... probably more than once.

For the Yankees or Red Sox after Free Agency...

Well... yeah, probably.

Also, one other enjoyable thing this season happened just last night-- the schadenfreude of the paper champions not even making the playoffs this year is so thick, I can almost taste it.

It was amazing. The sweet, sweet Longoria homer just minutes after Crawford couldn't handle the hit to left was great. Baseball is good.

And the Braves gagging that game in the 9th, and playing with their hands around their throats in extra innings was nearly as sweet.

So this must be what it felt like to be a Sox fan in '78 and '86. And don't mention '03 - this is worse simply because everything had to wrong in two separate games.

It wouldn't break my heart if Carl Crawford had an "accident" during the off-season. Given how much he's getting paid for the next 6 years, I can't see any other way to get his worthless overpaid ass out of the lineup.

I'd have to agree with that.

$20 million to bat in the 7 spot for the majority of the year and have a .255/.289/.405/.694 season with only 18 SB. Unbelievable.
