I don't know if Booker and Goldust are the type of people that would stop the WWE from signing them though. Whatever the case, the Bucks come across looking bad. Either they are pricks, or they are totally socially inept and come across as disrespectful. One of my friends in college came across as a dick because he kept to himself a lot. Maybe that's part of the case here.

Or maybe RVD, Booker, and Golddust are out of touch with reality and will do anything to keep their "spots." Should the Bucks have shaken some hands when they got a tryout? Maybe, maybe not...wanna know what shouldn't have happened, Booker and RVD especially shouldn't have taken this shit public to make themselves feel like they're still important. As soon as Booker isn't the worst announcer in wrestling and RVD has a match that's at all different than the matches he had in 2000, I'll think they have a valid opinion and worth in the wrestling business. Fuck, Booker's the guy who quit TNA because they wanted to put a potential future superstar like Matt Morgan over him. FUCK YOU BOOKER. You signed a contract, do the job and don't complain that you're being massively overpaid for a job that Stevie Ray can do.

I agree with you, and the others, about Booker and RVD taking it public. It's very childish. Booker isn't even a wrestler anymore. I doubt the Bucks shook whoever announces Superstars hands.

I heard an interview with one of the Bucks when they left TNA, and he said that they didn't ask advice or anything from other wrestlers, they got it from the agents. If Goldust wasn't on their match, I don't know what his issue would be.

I did a terrible job of getting this across in my initial post, but I think this is whole thing is weird because Booker and Goldust were piling on for something that makes them in the wrong as well. It's not like Booker hasn't had his fair share of backstage bitchyness. There is the issue Dev mentioned, and the Batista fight to name two.

What did RVD say?

And it doesn't sound like the bucks even said anything wrong on twitter, but apparently they can't control their idiot redneck brother.

A friend of mine used to wrestle in the Southern California indie scene, and I remember him telling me about how important handshakes were backstage. He said that even the way that you shook someones hand mattered. A limp shake apparently meant that you didn't work stiff, and a firm handshake indicated that you were the second coming of Big Van Vader.

My friend made the mistake of shaking one of the "veteran" workers (never signed, never drew flies, but lingering in the indies with his head buried 6 ft up his own ass) hands firmly. He didn't know that he had done anything wrong, until his match later that night. Apparently the vet took umbrage to the handshake, and got the booker/promoter/guy working the hot dog stand to write him in for a run-in at the end of my friends match. All completely unbeknownst to my friend. The match ends, angry veteran does his run in and just stiffs the ever loving shit out of my friend. Tied up in the ropes, just getting chopped mercilessly by the vet and his opponent. My friend goes along with it, but ended up with bruises and lacerations on his chest.

Dickhead whispered in his ear after the beat down something along the lines of "Think you're gonna work stiff now? You need to learn a little something about respect, boy."

Keep in mind my friend was 5'11, and looked like he was on the Zach Gowan workout plan, and the angry vet was easily 6'5, 280+ lbs.

Seems like a rational way to go about things, right?

you are correct about the handshake being important- the variation I'm used to is one that looks firm, but has no force. What it comes down to is safety- if someone is properly trained, they will know these things. It is a shorthand to trust. If they don't know it, then their training is incomplete or their trainer didn't trust them.
Keep in mind, this isn't just a matter of office politics, it is safety and security. The understanding is there so that you can at least know you won't end up injured.

That being said, angry anecdotal indie guy was a dick.

Edited for there their issues...

Yes, it's clear from Booker and Dust's tweets that they fear for their safety and nothing else.

Sounds like Booker is still living his Main Event Mafia gimmick.

The 'level of handshake equating to how you work' thing is bullshit. Handshakes aren't though, its more a sign of respect for every single person in the lockerroom. You always go and introduce yourself to everyone, regardless of who you are.

That being said, your friend probably just shook the guys hand too hard and he got butthurt about having a sore hand. Some people are crazy, and wrestling has a lot of em.

RVD maybe, but Booker and Goldust don't even wrestle anymore...what "spots" are they exactly worried they can lose?

Either way, if there's a "code of conduct" or whatever bull they have in lockerrooms, you would think by now the Bucks would just know it and go along with it instead of continuing to create incident (if this is true). It may be a ridiculous thing, and people may want to live their lives righteous and declare they will "suck up to no one", but who the hell cares? Such a little and non-subservant thing like shaking someone's hand the right way should just be done and that's it. When you're trying out, you are trying to impress someone, like any interview or preview or whatever. If the Bucks don't want to even cede to this little thing, perhaps they don't belong.

Either way, I think both ends are stupid. I feel like we hear wayyy too many of these ridiculous events happening every so often. [EDIT] This had nothing to do with the Indy story...which was just crap by that stupid "vet".

I have been following Claudio Castagnoli, Chris Hero, and Joey Ryan on twitter for a few months now, and they had posted pics of them shaking hands with both Bucks from this past weekend's PWG Battle of Los Angeles show. Very tongue in cheek pics with "SEGs" (as my father calls Shit Eating Grins). I almost don't want to believe something like not shaking hands needs to be reported to the twitter-universe. Maybe it's the beginning of a Booker/Golddust tag reunion to face the Young Bucks. I don't know. I found Book's tweet a little childish and petty, and moreso it's not that he just tweeted it once and then moved on, he kept on tweeting variations of "why you gotta lean on my jacket?!?" Get over it, Gob Bluth and your $10,000 suit. COME ON!

No, it's not bullshit. It might be a regional difference, though.

They've mentioned that Booker has a brother on Smackdown a few times recently, and spoke about his accomplishments as a tag team guy... maybe they're thinking of bringing Stevie Ray in for a short run, ending with a HOF induction next year.

Most guys going into the HoF don't get a "run" before going in...not like Road Warrior Animal got one last year and his brother is Johnny Ace...so I wouldn't feel the need to add that to people's worry list.

Yeah, I remember he already wasn't aging well when he was on the nWo's B-Team.

The impression I got was that it is not that big a deal if you do shake hands, but if you don't it's a sign of disrespect. Since when did shaking hands equate to kissing ass?

This.

Stevie was always the Charlie to Booker's Eddie Murphy...Until Chappelle's Show came along and Eddie started making shitty movies, which would make Stevie the Eddie to Booker's Charlie...But Eddie and Charlie never really performed together in a marquee setting. So now we're getting into a whole Piscopo-lian dynamic that I don't think is deserving of Harlem Heat, because clearly, Goldust was Joe Piscopo.

Interesting take by Greg De Marco, who writes the "Ask 411 Wrestling" column:

Nick and Matt Jackson are some of the most talented young workers in the business. Great in-ring skills, very limited promo skills. (That's a trend that we'll see here, by the way.) They recently requested their release from TNA due to being underutilized. Their comments on their release have ranged from not being booked enough to make any money (very understandable) to not liking how they were written/booked (very subjective). After their release, we start hearing criticism of their backstage attitude. They didn't shake hands...they didn't take criticism from veterans. They publically discounted it, placing the accountability on the company and the veterans. Then you have a WWE tryout. This is their chance at wrestling's grandest stage, a stage that over 95% of all wrestlers aspire to reach. To date, we've heard nothing about their abilities or their tryout match itself. What have we heard about? They didn't shake hands with veterans. Now, these guys are well trained and well-traveled. They've been to Japan.

I want to take you back to 2006/2007, when I worked with Arizona independent promotion Rising Phoenix Wrestling. RPW owner/booker Johnny Kennedy looked at The Young Bucks as punks with an attitude problem that will never make it in the business. Co-owner Brett Heilman looked at them as the future, promising that we'd see them in ROH and TNA sooner than later. Who was right? Well, I thought Brett would be right, and he was. But so was Johnny.

There's more to this story. We had an event in January of 2007 that the Young Bucks were booked on. They had agreed to a fee, and made the drive from Southern California to Phoenix. I don't know if they shook any hands when they arrived. But I do know one thingthey asked for more money. Not for future bookings, but for that night's booking. They worked for the originally agreed upon amount and were never booked again.

Bad attitude. Sense of entitlement. Poor business skills. Poor interpersonal skills. Four to five years later, what are we hearing? The same thing. Their TNA bridge is burned, and their WWE bridge is burned. I really hope ROH becomes a big promotion, because that's their new ceiling.

And when other wrestlers refer to "The Young Bucks Pose," they're not paying homage, trust me.

And P.S. - PWG's battle of Los Angeles show was amazing. Simply fucking amazing. Kevin Steen and El Generico are incredible.

I'm surprised Generico and Steen were able to have such a great match, what with Camstun swinging from their nuts like a rabid schoolgirl.
