How To Sabotage Your Career - By The Young Bucks

I've been following this for a few days and it just gets better and better -

First, from Booker T -

quote:
Booker T went on his Twitter and posted a series of tweets, directed towards none other than Generation Me/The Young Bucks.

A friend RVD made comment few week back..now I no why, i say a small tag team called the YBs did hay shake my hand no! Yes I said SMALL!!!

Repost:: To make it clear,I saw two small guys at tv this week, then I past them during the day, they never introduce themselves, and later -

One of them was leaning on my jacket and still never introduce themselves No RESPECTnow do u get it.

You can follow Booker T at @BookerT5x.

Asshole? Bullshit antiquated locker room politics? Maybe. But then some other veterans have chimed in -

quote:
Goldust gave his thoughts about the Young Bucks on his Twitter.

He wrote: "As booker says.....better show some respect when in the locker room, there are good teachers here that know more than you young bucks....Just a reminder....if trying out for wwe....extend your hand,be polite and respectfull and do what your told. You dont have to like the golden one, but you will respect my knowledge of the business....jfyi"

Matt Jackson wrote on his own Twitter: "Somewhere, somehow, there is a "tell me he didn't just say that?" joke that needs to be told. I love you, wrestling. Nothin' but love & respect for all my peers in the business. Hope everyone makes their own decision based on their own experiences."

Nick Jackson adds: "I respect everyone in the business even if they have bad words about me. God bless them all. Thx to all the loyal fans that support us!"

Finally, their brother Malachi said: "Sounds like @BookerT5x is a little 12 year old girl on his young buck rant. These vets such as @therealrvd and @BookerT5x are jealous of the young bucks cause they cant do half what bucks can do in the ring. I can't believe @MattJackson13 and @NickJacksonYB didn't say hi to @BookerT5x ! #whatisthishighschool ? @RRWWE (Ricardo Rodriguez) Booker t is mad cause they supposedly didn't say hi to him so @BookerT5x is trashing the bucks. I love when vets say stuff bout the young bucks. All they're doing is getting them more popular :O @BookerT5x I didn't shake the hand of someone at work today. The person then tweeted bout how disrespectful I was being @BookerT5x #getoveryourego @BookerT5x that's weird you and rvd are the only ones out of hundreds of workers that don't like the bucks. And btw they've already made it. "

I don't know if they read Shawn Michaels' book and feel empowered by his story of how The Rockers got into WWE but this does not seem like a good way to go about breaking into WWE - "Piss off as many veterans as you can and then, for those you didn't get to piss off permanently, talk a lot of shit about how great you are over Twitter."

Great plan.

Or, it may just be, that the bucks remember how much of a giant douchebag Booker was backstage at TNA and figured, it's better not to be associated with someone like that.

Near as I can tell Booker has a super inflated ego. What would he have preferred, that the Bucks showed up and crapped in Rosa's bag , or raped Darren young with a bar of soap (credit to dev via chat for the last line.).

Maybe Booker just needs to get over himself. Personally, if I ran into someone that my coworkers had told me was a raging asshole, I would probably not introduced myself to him/her either. Also, what was stopping Booker from coming up to them and saying hi. Maybe, just maybe, they did not think it was appropriate to try and push their way into a conversation with someone who did not have a reason to be speaking with them.

I don't know the bucks, and they could have been just being asses, but I really don't see where they did anything truly horrible to Booker in this situation.

Did you read the rest of the post, dude?

Apparently Goldust and RVD thought they were assholes as well? And then the Bucks themselves, as well as their buddy, took to Twitter to stroke their own egos while talking shit to anyone who thought they were assholes?

I don't know how it works in WWE but if I'm a low-rung guy starting off at a company and I'm trying to impress some people, fuck yes, I will engage in "Ass Kissing 101." If they don't want to follow that guideline and thumb their nose at the status quo, more power to them, but I hope they enjoy their lives of not making six-figures-a-year.

Yeah, I guess I just don't really take Goldust, or RVD's opinions all that serious either. And I'm a different breed I guess. I don't kiss ass, period. If that means I don't get ahead, so be it. And I saw their posts, neither of them said anything too make it look like they were intentionally being asses. Yeah, their brother went to far, but sometimes when you stick up for family you do that. I know I have said some pretty mean things to people in defense of my sisters. That being said neither of the Bucks tweets that you posted seemed that bad.

This all started with Booker going aww man, these new guys did not kiss my ass. Then two of his friends chimed in with yeah, they need to kiss more ass. If the only things the bucks did was not introduce themselves to Booker, I'm not seeing the big deal. It's not like they told him to fuck off while giving them advice or tried to push him out of the way or anything. They came to work and did their job. I'm not seeing where Booker tried to spark a conversation with them either.

I like Booker, RVD and Goldust, but if all three of them vanished from the wrestling world tomorrow, it would survive just fine, and not miss a beat. Sometimes I think the veterans may get to big of a head about just how important they are to the grand scheme of things.

So yeah, the bucks brother was kind of stupid in his responses, but hey it's family, and you can do dumb things for family. Still, he should have kept his mouth shut, and hopefully the bucks told him that. However, not introducing yourself and shaking hands with someone...not that big a freakin deal, and Booker may just be over exaggerating.

I don't know all the details (140 characters will never give you that) but really, nothing about this situation really seems that major, just some grown men acting like little kids.

Gooker, did you see how much of an ass RVD was in what he said a few weeks ago about the Bucks. Fuck him and fuck booker and fuck golddust. The business has passed all 3 of you by and none of you bring anything worthwhile to the table. The Bucks seriously should have pulled a Mallrats handshake on them.

I think there are two different thing here. 1st if the bucks were right and 2nd if the bucks were smart. The first one is purely opinion and I don't expect anyone to change there mind on that. Maybe Booker, RVD and Golddust are assholes, maybe the Bucks are asshole. Wouldn't surprise me if all of the above where shitty human beings. That part isn't as interesting to me.

The second one though, yes the bucks were really stupid. The Bucks have been in wrestling long enough to know how it works, so assuming they want to be successful then what they did was stupid. If you want to be successful then sometimes you have to do things you don't enjoy or deal with people that are assholes.

I don't mean to sound accusational or that I'm judging you, but I'm curious Doug, what do you do for a living and how successful are you? I'm willing to admit that I've sucked up to people all the time. At my last job I had a boss that was a douche bag so I sucked up until he liked me and then my job got magically easier and more enjoyable. To me it was worth it. Obviously you don't agree, and I think this is a potentially interesting discussion.

This is exactly my point. If they want to walk around the WWE locker room during their "try out" (yes, that's right "try out") with their chin out and their head held high like they've done something, more power to them. I hope they enjoy wrestling in high school gyms for their career.

True, but 3/4 of wrestling fans will have a fond memory or two of each of them, if the Young Bucks vanished 3/4 of wrestling fans wouldn't even notice or care since they don't know them.

Booker RVD and Golddust have been around a long time, that means they have paid their dues. You don't have to show them respect, but you should show respect to the time, energy and blood they have spent to get where they are.

That being said they should know better than to air this shit in public.

I don't think Booker, Goldust and RVD are the be-all-and-end-all of locker room politics when it comes to WWE. I mean, these are all guys who jumped ship - 2 of whom came back on their knees.

Especially if it's HHH who brought them in.

This is just another lesson in how fucked up the pro-wrestling world is.

Every - and I mean EVERY - professional workplace I've been in (not McDonald's or the diner I worked at), it was the people that were already there that introduced themselves to the new hires. It helps take any nerves out of being in a new environment and helps overall workplace morale.

But, I guess this shouldn't be a surprise. We've seen over the years how into "protecting my spot" the veterans are - why go out of your way to make the new guys' lives any easier, when you're afraid that they're going to take your job? I mean - it's easier to break down the new guy, than it is to continuously improve your own standing, right?

I work as a shipping clerk for a company called Kidde Aerospace and Defense (yup it's a normal business job). They make fire suppression systems for Aircrafts and military vehicles. I primarily handle all the custom documentation and export requirements for our oversees customers.

My interview was me telling the supervisor that what he saw was what he was getting. I would change for no one, and that if hired, he would get one of the best workers he could find, but I would not hide who I was to impress anyone. He was impressed with my straightforwardness and gave me a shot. Later he told me that he expected me to either quit/get fired within a month, but three years later I'm the second highest paid employee in my department, and handle the majority of the workload.

I get that some jobs require you to make certain sacrifices, or perhaps kiss ass to elevate yourself (politicians, lawyers, doctors come to mind, or anything where you have to deal with "the public") but for most I would like to think you can let your work speak for you. That is kind of where I stand with the young bucks. If they do well in the ring, then they should have a good career, after all Booker, Goldust and RVD are not the guys in charge of talent relations/booking. They are all guys who are nearing the end of their careers and should probably be calling it quits truth be told.

If they had been walking up to the McMahons and doing this, then I might wonder about there mental state, as even I understand it's pretty dumb to tell your companies CEO to fuck off. On the other hand, you aren't always going to get along with all your coworkers. At the end of the day Booker really has seemed to just turn into a whiny old man, so the fact that he decided to start a twitter war of words over not getting a handshake/introduction just seems silly to me.

This isn't a regular job, though. There is a certain etiquette that should be followed.

Every show I've been a part of, all the boys (and girls), shake hands with each other when they arrive no matter how long they've known each other. Maybe it seems a bit silly to those on the outside, but I appreciate the fact that, for the most part, everyone shows respect to one another, no matter what their position is. Remember, this is a business where we put our safety into the hands of others - showing proper respect and gratitude reinforces that trust.

If the Bucks came in for a try out and acted as if they were above other people then fuck them. They've buried themselves.

Clearly, they should've introduced themselves profusely. Then, after four years of stagnation they can get a "title run" that means nothing. It's the Dolph Ziggler career path.

I don't see this as an ass kissing thing, but more them pissing on a well known bit of tradition. Hell, I'm not even a wrestler and I know that even if you just shook a guys hand the day before and its a new city and new show you still shake that same guys hand each and every time.

I don't know the Young Bucks other than I take it they are a bigger indy or TNA tag team, so I don't know what the general concensus is about them and their respect/attitude towards the business. End fo the day this hand shaking tradition is something they would have a hard time credibly saying they weren't aware of, so it was either a collective lapse of judgement or something intetional. They were there to make an impression both in terms of ring work and how they'll fit into the lockeroom, and it looks like they at least partially failed at this.

Booker never should have taken this to twitter though, as it does make him look juvenile and like he's having a temper tantrum.

From Helms...

"For those of you that don't know, there is a tradition among locker rooms, not all, but I'd say a lot, and I'd definitely say in the WWE locker room of shaking hands when you get to the building. You go up to the vets, the other boys, the refs, the girls, just whomever you work with, and politely shake their hand for no other reason than as a sign of respect. That's ALL IT IS. It's not a submissive motion, it doesn't make you less of a man, it's not a judgment (although you will be judged if you don't do it) it's just a way of saying hello in a polite and respectful manner. And in a locker room (such as WWE) that is inhabited by more than a few veterans and guys who have paved the way for us all, respect is kind of a big deal."

Weirdly, Shane has kind of come out against some WWE wrestlers. But, he seems to back this tradition. I don't really know why he's even getting involved, really.

I know that twitter has changed this dynamic across sports, but isn't there an equally important tradition of keeping locker room issues in the locker room? I get that the Bucks might not have followed protocol, but airing dirty laundry about locker room issues in public used to be just as big a deal.

I find this issue to be rather odd. I saw Velvet Sky sticking up for the Bucks on twitter yesterday. I remember when RVD trashed them after they left TNA, and it seemed a lot of people had their back, and spoke highly of them. Now, a second incident pops up. I don't know if Booker and Goldust are the type of people that would stop the WWE from signing them though. Whatever the case, the Bucks come across looking bad. Either they are pricks, or they are totally socially inept and come across as disrespectful. One of my friends in college came across as a dick because he kept to himself a lot. Maybe that's part of the case here.
