The Kennedy thing would be funny for maybe two days just to see Lucky and Punker's reactions, but after that, it would be old.

You could probably come up with soemthing Ron Simmons related. I mean, an obvious one would be for the Music Forum: WHAM!
As stated earlier, I like the Simpson related one the best. But if it meant two days worth of negative reactions from some posters, I'm all for
the Kennedy thing.

If it wasn't for the Mattingly title on Sports I wouldn't have had any clue what these themes are. Seriously, do all of these terms come
from the last 10 years of the show? Usually I pick up on some stuff from the days I watched.
And I hate you, Eric. You'll be the first.

I admit, the news and music ones sound vaguely familiar. But nothing that I can place in any way to any episode or story. But they at least sound
like something I did see unlike the rest of them.

A Brief Simpson's Explanation...
Pro Wrestling: The Shrieking Sheik - This was Mr. Burns' neighbor - we hear him when Burns loses his fortune and Bret "The Hitman"
Hart buy's Burns' house
Fantasy: A Whole Land of Chocolate - This is the one where Burn's sells his nuclear power plant to German's and when the
German's confront Homer on his "safety" record he is told they are from the land of Chocolate. He fantasizes skipping through this land.
Divas: Post Lurleen Lumpkin Pics - Lurleen Lumpkin is the cocktail waitress that Homer discovers when he drives to a Western bar. Homer is
tempted by Lurleen to cheat on Marge.
Comments About OO: WORST. FORUM. EVER. - Comic Book Guy (Jeff Albertson)'s favorite saying when he looks his nose down on something.
Music: Be-Sharps - name of Homer's babershop quartet (when Barbershop had that brief comeback in '97) - he also won a grammy, ate
brownies with George Harrison and sang on the rooftop of Moe's bar.
Entertainment: Battling Seizure Robots - When the Simpson's go to Japan Bart is watching the cartoon called "Battle Seizure Robots" -
which dialates everyone's eye like they're on crack and they seize until the show's over.
Sports: Mattingly, Shave Those Sideburns! - The episode where Burn's softball team goes on a tear because of Homer and his Wonderbat.
Burns then bets the owner of Capital City's plant $1 million dollars that his team could beat his. He then brings in 9 MLB ringers that all
befall horrible fates except Daryl Strawberry... who cries. Mattingly is fired for not having sideburns, which Burn's wants shaved off.
Matingly then shaves most of his hair off.
PCs/Games: The Android's Dungeon - Comic BookGuy's shop. He is also the nerdiest computer guy in Springfield.
Parts Unknown: The Remote Alkali Flats When Sideshow Bob threatens Springfield with nuclear annihilation all TV must be killed forever.
Which makes Krusty the Clown go to the Springfield Badland remote Alkali flats to use the Emergency Broadcasting System to have a show with Ike and a
scorpion.
Jeebus - I have spent too much of my life on this show...
Edit: Homer no speel good

Entertainment is the Japanese video that causes seizures
Music is the name of Homers band that won a Grammy
Divas is named after Lurleen Lumpkin, a country star that Homer managed
Games, see Burns, Montgomery
Fantasy was from when Homer met some executives from Germany The land of chocolate
I dont remember the rest.

I don't know what you're talking about. Most of them are from the first 13 years. I'll break them down by forum:
Wrestling - In the early seasons, the Simpsons watched a lot of wrestling. The Iron Yuppie was a character. Homer hated him.
Retro - The Shrieking Sheik was the guy who lived next door to Bret Hart when Bret Hart bought Mr. Burns' house after he went bankrupt.
Fantasy - The whole land of chocolate is what Homer dreams of when the Germans buy the plant and say that Germans aren't so bad, they come from
the land of chocolate.
Games - When the Simpsons get stuck in Japan, they go on a game show to win money. In America, game shows reward success. In Japan, they punish
failure.
Divas - Lurleen Lumpkin was the country singer Homer managed in "Colonel Homer."
Comments on OO - Duh
News - I might have screwed this one up. There's an episode where Kent Brockman reports really senationally on some bad weather and they cut to
a guy giving the DEATH TOLL and it's 0.
Music - Homer was a member of the Be-Sharps barbershop quartet
Entertainment - The Battling Seizure robots are the pokemon knockoff that gives people seizures. I think they were in more than one episode, but they
were definitely in the Japan one.
PCs/Games - Troy McLure hosted an informercial show called "I Can't Believe They Invented It!" and Dr. Nick was a guest.
Oops. That was the old name. Mike's right. The Android's Dungeon is the comic book shop.
Parts Unknown - When Sideshow Bob kills television, Krusty goes on the air 24/7 from the Emergency Broadcast shack in the remote alkali flats of the
Springfield Badlands.

Hey, I just asked if there were recent. It appears I just missed all these episodes. I do recall the country singer one but I just had no idea of
the name. And now that you (all) mention it I recall the Barbershop Quartet one. And is the one where the German's buy the plant the one
with the Downsizing video meant to convince the employees that unemployment would give them lots of free time to be happy? If so I saw that for the
first time just a couple of weeks ago but don't recall the scene in question.
Obviously I know of the comic book guy but I wouldn't have had a clue what his shop name is. Otherwise I don't think I've seen any
of those episodes. If I did they were apparently very forgettable.
What can I say? I'm not a fan. I just usually get some of the more obvious, old school references so I was a bit surprised I got so few.

I think the downsizing video was in the episode where Burns outsourced the plant to India and sent Homer over to teach the Indian employees how to run
the plant.

The episode where Germans buy the plant is from, I think, the third season? Homer ends up being the only worker downsized, as is related in the
following hilarious public announcement to the plant.
"Ve regret to announce ze following layoffs, which I will read in alphabetical order.
Simpson, Homer.
Zat is all."

I'm pretty proud that I felt like I "got" all the references on first sight. I'm equally proud that even if I remembered the
line/context, I am not nearly obsessed enough that I could have told you which episodes they all came from.
Some of the discussion here also reminds me of a rant I've wanted to do for years, but haven't had an excuse: because if you think
Wrestling Fandom gets retarded sometimes, you would not believe the levels of retardation and self-rinvolved wankery displayed by the truest of
Simpsons Afficianados.
I know it's the generally accepted axiom that The Simpsons aren't nearly as funny now as they used to be. But you go to the Simpsons
archive (snpp.com) and check the "reviews" included in the episode capsules, and my guess (or my HOPE) is that you'd howl with laughter.
Myself? I don't think the Simpsons even got really funny till the third season or so (or at least, that's when the shows I'll watch
on reruns started being made), and feel like the show stayed damned solid all the way through the time I was in school (you're telling me that
episodes like the Talking Space Coyote one, the Beer Baron one, the X-Files one, the Krusty-Sells-Out to the Canyonaro one, the Simpsons-in-Tokyo one,
and the Mark Hamill one aren't all still top-shelf classics?). I thought they kept up with a few decent iepisodes per season for a couple years
after that. It's only very recently -- the last 2-3 years -- where the timple fact is that the show is forgettable on an almost weekly basis.
Contrast this with the Wanker Fans of the Simpsons, who feel like the show started sucking in 1993, and hasn't been funny since Season Two.
Why do they feel this way? Because, that's when Homer started behaving "unrealistically," and the show became "cartoony." This, despite the
fact that the show is a FREAKING CARTOON. These wankers also argue that the beauty of the original Simpsons shorts and early episodes was that nothing
ever happened that couldn't happen in real life, with real actors simulating a real family.
I guess things like the family eloctoshocking each other for 3 minutes and Homer failing to jump Spingfield Gorge and bouncing comically all the way
to the bottom don't count? Those were only things that happened within the first half-dozen episodes or so, for chrissakes.
Anyway, any time I feel like I may be taking wrestling too seriously, or that all this talk of "workrate" and "star ratings" has warped my
perception, I just remember those people. Grown adults who take umbrage when a cartoon is "cartoony" and who debate the quality of animation on a
purposely-relatively-crudely-drawn show, and who think that a program started to suck at pretty much the exact time it started hitting its stride and
reaching its largest audiences.
They make me feel normal.
Rick
PS: If I'd done the forum namings, I'm sure I'd have picked a lot of different ones, based on my own persooal choices of favorite
episodes, which may not agree with your fondest memories. Such is life when you have 400 episodes to choose from. But if I may: How in the blue hell
is the "Fantasy" forum not subtitled "Mmmmmm.... Forbidden Donut...."? Also, "Springfield Mystery Spot" would be too perfect for "Parts
Unknown," but that would then make two references to the baseball episode, which might be overkilll.....
