I like DKB's set up as regards if Edge is healthy as it achieves the same conclusion (Edge Jericho for the title at mania) as my booking but gives you an extra month or so to assess if Edge will be fit. I take the point this match doesn't "need the belt" but neither does HBK Taker. If you put both those on and then some sort of mysterio/batista/orton/hhh/sheamus crapfest as the mania main event with a side of Mcmahons vs hearts? Disaster.

With that said I think quite a few of us are picking what we'd like to happen and we'll probably end up with dibiase winning the rumble and facing orton at mania or some such rubbish.

I don't see any changes as far as the titles are concerned. But if there is a God, my hope is that we get a surprise winner in the Rumble match. My pick: John Morrison

Which is who it probably could have been if they'd slowly built him up to the main event the past few months.

I still don't like the whole "main eventers winning the Rumble" thing we've gotten the past three years with Orton, Cena and Undertaker winning it. The three years before that-- with Rey, Batista and Benoit-- were done the way I like. That is to say, someone just on the cusp of the big time, and the Rumble win is that final hurdle they take toward the title. Though I guess with the Money in the Bank these days, that's not as necessary.

And Morrison vs Batista could be a legitimate WM match if Cena was put into a threeway with HHH and Sheamus. HHH and Cena can both claim to be #1 contenders, Orton can be feuding with Dibiase.

Well, you can chat with Mickie, Sheamus and the rest of the WWE universe at WWE.com, where you can also read brilliant recaps like these:

quote:
Originally written by a Harvard writermonkey on WWE.com

ATLANTA - In the battle of Snake Eyes versus Irish Eyes, its clear whose peepers were smiling and whose were crimson with anger as WWE Champion Sheamus narrowly survived to retain his coveted title.

Leading up to the match, Randy Orton had taken tremendous pains to slither inside his opponents psyche, coiling himself tightly inside the Irishmans head and waiting for the most opportune moment to strike. That moment, however, would prove to be his undoing.

As The Viper and his prey clashed inside the Phillips Arena, Cody Rhodes attempted to distract The Celtic Warrior, defying his Legacy ringleader, who had demanded that there be no interference. Rhodes plan to help Orton backfired miserably, though, as The Viper was disqualified.

In the aftermath, an irate Orton berated and slapped around Rhodes. When Ted DiBiase rushed to the aid of his fellow Legacy henchman, Orton attacked him, too. The Vipers blind rage then allowed Sheamus to surprise him and drop him with a massive boot.

While The Celtic Warrior may have escaped The Vipers sting this time, theres little doubt that the fangs are now out.

The main page one stopped working years ago, and the one up at the top was never that good, so we all relocated here for chat.

What does Edge do with the title shot? Undertaker loses the title at Elimination Chamber, but to who? Jericho? Edge vs Jericho didn't need a title. Edge vs Batista - meh. Edge vs Sheamus - pfft.

Rest of the card was pretty bland. Actual Rumble was pretty good though, though don't like the Edge win per se.

I'd like to know where the hell WWE's "exclusive web coverage" went. Usually I can count on them to give me a quick run down of who entered when and eliminated who, but their coverage is just another one of their poorly written articles.

Ok, I'm excited about Edge winning the Rumble for 3 reasons:

1) Surprise entrant. Mind you, one most fans actually called, but still a surprise entrant.

2) Edge vs Jericho: World Title Main Event at Wrestlemania! Whether or not it needed a title, it has one. And that is fucking awesome!!! Being Canadian, this is doubly huge for me as I believe this could be the first ever all-Canadian main event in Wrestlemania history!

3) We played the Royal Rumble game tonight. There were 7 of us. I drew #1. That meant my pics were 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Also known as:
1) Dolph Ziggler (boo!)
2) Triple H (3.5 points I believe, which was disappointing)
3) Big Show (2 points)
4) Carlito
5) Edge (11 points)

All in all, I had a blast watching tonights Rumble!

Sounded like a good Rumble. Too bad something screwy/retarded happened at my local Buffalo Wild Wings and the damn show never came on!!! Instead, I was treated to three quarters of the Pro Bowl, which is 2+ hours that I'll never get back. Seriously, under the assumption that only the Rumble match itself actually mattered, I decided to wait it out with my buddies only to finally give up the ghost at around 10:15. How many pointless and redundant PPVs have a sat through over the years only to miss out a PPV that I actually wanted to see?

I didn't think Edge was coming back, and I marked out when he was #29. I thought Cena was going to dump him out on his ass at the end, so it was a surprise.

HBK superkicking HHH out of the Rumble was unexpected. I thought Shawn was going to start throwing people out after he couldn't hang on the ropes after Bats hit him. That was a neat spot.

They really didn't let anyone have a Rumble breakthrough. No young guns had a long run or did anything really. Punk didn't even last 10 people. The Rumble seemed really fast with 4 or so people in the ring at all times.

As for the rest, I really liked the ECW match. Jackson didn't look bad, and end was good.

The World title match had no flow and was really only interesting until post match. The end was beyond lame with Cody attacking Sheamus outside the ring.

MVP v. Miz was good enough for a thrown together match.

Taker v. Mysterio was fun. The end was good, as the Undertaker powerbombed him to hell. I enjoyed the card.

Nice.

I ordered my first PPV from WWE in a couple years and they have Edge win the whole fucking thing...sweet.

Goon/Chris and I watched the show tonight and I'm sure he'll post his thoughts but for now, here are mine -

Christian vs. Ahmed Johnson v. 2.0 - Waaaay better than I expected. Just a great big man-little man match. Not sure what the deal was but apparently Christian really can have a great match with anyone. Made all the more entertaining by Goon's continued insistence that Johnson v. 2.0 would win. Then, as I suspected, Christian won. And apparently Goon is now 0-4 in his predictions involving Christian.

Cryme Tyme, Khali, Miz backstage skit - Awesome. Seriously, I loved it. Funny, quick, inoffensive.

The Miz vs. MVP - Good match but nothing we couldn't have seen on Raw. It was quite interesting how much the crowd was behind Miz.

RKO vs. Sheamus - It was about what I expected. Crowd was waaaaay behind Orton. Did we see the implosion of Legacy? Or didn't we? Apparently, going by the Rumble, we didn't. And given the continued lack of crowd response we get for either of those two douchebags, they may as well just remove them from television. That would be just fine by me.

Taker vs. Mysterio - Fuckin' A, I can't believe I forgot about this match. Taker-Mysterio tore the house down. Awesome match made all the more awesome by the blood gushing out of Taker's nose. I don't know how I feel about Taker no-selling two 619's in a row and segueing into a Last Ride but whatever - I like Taker more than Mysterio so I'm fine with it.

Mickie James vs. McCool - Just what I was hoping for. The skits leading up to it were so stupid/degrading (at least for the current PG-13 WWE), it was pretty awesome seeing Mickie James win in about 15 seconds. The only question it left me with was "What will become of Beth Phoenix?" Luckily, that question would be answered shortly.

The Royal Rumble - Man...where to begin? I guess you have to start with CM Punk. His domination of the early part of the match was nothing short of awesome. Especially when he kept getting the mic back after every couple of eliminations or so. And he had to keep talking in order to turn the crowd back against him once the "C.M. Punk!" chants started up.

"Sigh" Then you had Beth Phoenix come in. That was fucking awesome. I don't know where she'll go from here. I don't know if they should go a Chyna-style route and have her challenge for the men's titles but she sure seemed to hold her own tonight. I was loving every minute of her in the ring and wish she had stayed in their longer. Still, seeing "Beth Phoenix eliminated The Great Khali" for Royal Rumble 2010 will be pretty awesome.

I guess the other big surprise of the early part of the match was HHH getting eliminated relatively early by HBK. Not sure where HHH will go from there but, given the events that transpired after his elimination, it doesn't seem like he's going to be too much in the middle of the things leading into Wrestlemania.

I'll probably forget a lot but I was pretty much entertained by the rest of the match and then it happened....#29 - EDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goon and I almost headbutted each other with joy. Spears all around. Jericho elimination. I figured he'd be going out not long after. Then HBK got eliminated and we saw the possible foreshadowing of an HBK turn. But enough of that, we've got Edge. We had Edge, Batista, and Cena left. I seriously had no clue who would survive and Edge was my last choice.

But Edge won the fucking Rumble. It was the best possible finish for someone like me who hadn't ordered it in a year.

Great, great show.

I'm not too sure how I feel about Edge winning. I'm a huge Edge fan, and I love the thought of his character getting a desperately-needed reset after all the Vickie Guerrero bullshit we had to put up with for a while... but how does Wrestlemania shape up?

I was hoping for JeriShow vs. Edge/Christian, though that looks unlikely now--unless they have Edge put his title shot on the line and lose it in between now and Mania. He'll probably not go to Raw and face Sheamus, and he's obviously not facing Undertaker since that'll he Shawn's opponent. I guess Shawn can cost Taker the title to Jericho at Elimination Chamber to free him up for their match... but how can he interfere in a match held inside a giant cage? At least they have me eager now to see how things shape up, so they did something right tonight, for sure.

Aren't you glad you didn't trade away that last wrestler for the measley two points?

The undercard was pretty much as-expected, though I would be remiss if I didn't give credit to Taker and Rey for exceeding my expectations by quite a bit. Borderline awesome, and I don't think that's just my low expectations talking. Definitely the only remotely "youtube-worthy" thing from the undercard. Unless you're a hyper fan who needs to see Christian squeeze a mediocre showing out of Zeke. Or you're a glutton for punishment and want to watch the other title match and ponder whether or not the break-up of Legacy is actually going to be a HEEL turn by DiBiase and/or Rhodes (on a babyface Orton). My brain aches just thinking about it....

What has two thumbs and originally reported that Edge's injury was a 6 month affair and compared WWE's later "career-ending" talk to what they did with John Cena two years ago to mask his surprise entry into the Royal Rumble, and did all this back in July? DIS GUY~!

Good for me! And good for Edge! Crowd was waaaaaayyy into him, too, which was heartening.

Undercard was nothing to write home about, but the Rumble was a ton of fun, I thought. They missed a few opportunities (which I had put on my wish-list when I wrote the preview), but made up for it by doing some other, unexpected things.

Beth made for a pretty cool twist.

Punk freaking OWNED IT for the first 10 or so minutes of the match. Just awesome work.

HHH going out so early pretty much put me into "WTF?" mode, which I enjoy when I'm watching me the rasslin'.

HBK's entire arc was neat, too. From his red-hot Diesel-style run of elims, to showing no remorse when he got the chance to take out HHH, to freaking out after he was eliminated because he viewed it as his only shot at getting to Taker, it was just a nicely told story, executed well by the most talented guy of his generation.

And the big finish? The best I can recall. A total reversal from last year's "underbooked" Rumble where there were 20 guys in there at the end, and it was little more than a standard Battle Royale. Instead, when Batista entered #30, he became the last member of the Final Four. The herd had already been thinned down that much.

Best of all: the Final Four were all former world champs, and Cole even stumbled onto the fact that all four had already headlined WrestleMania in their careers. So talk about ambiguity. Loved it. I still pretty much expected Cena to somehow win, but was hoping against hope for either Edge or Jericho, and let the moment get to me and even contemplated a few scenarios where Batista could win.

Good times. That's why I dig the Rumble....

Just to be a nitpicky (is that a word?) dick, Jericho technically is American. But given that he pretty much is considered Canadian, I'd say it's close enough.

As for tonight's show, it was the first PPV (WWE or otherwise) that I've watched since WreslteMania XXIV and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I actually thought Taker/Mysterio was pretty damn good and all of the other matches I'd rank as decent to good (well, minus the women's match, but that doesn't really count). Hell, I even thought Christian dragged a surprisingly good match out of Ezekiel, but then again, this is Christian, who can usually drag a watchable match out of anybody.

As for the Rumble itself, I really enjoyed it. I absolutely LOVED the shit with Punk. Seriously, that was some great stuff. I was disappointed to see him get tossed out by Triple H fairly early, but he certainly made the most of his time and was given a fair amount of spotlight.

Triple H getting eliminated by Michaels midway through the match was totally unexpected as well, and to me kind of made up for Triple H eliminating Punk. Great stuff there.

Loved the Edge surprise. As someone mentioned, it had obviously been rumored around the net, but I wasn't totally convinced. Seeing him eliminate Cena pretty easily was a nice surprise as well.

Going back to what nilesanderson mentioned, I'm really hoping this has to mean Jericho captures the title at Elimination Chamber and carries it to WrestleMania to face Edge. Cause we're definitely not going to get Edge/Taker or Edge/Sheamus (well, I guess we could get Edge/Sheamus, but I don't see it).

My one complaint about tonight would be that most of the midcard guys were dominated by the uppercard guys during the Rumble. But I really enjoyed the match itself and have no qualms about Edge winning, so I'd give tonight's PPV an easy thumbs up.

Oh yeah, and I'm glad that my prediction of Michaels not winning held true, because for a little while there I wasn't totally sure.

I think we found our answer for who can be a Rumble winner and have a set side feud for the PPV in the way.

I think Edge comes out and decides along with his title shot, he has business to finish, and that with Jericho. Jericho shies away until Edge puts his title shot on the line in order to get Jericho from joining the Elimination Chamber...Edge wins at EC...then we go from there...

Modified WM predictions now...

The big difference is what to do with Edge...what if the night after E.C., Edge is ready to announce his decision when Christian comes out and says, why don't we find out who is the better of the two of us, once and for all? Goes with Christians character of going for the best competitors for his title, and really makes it the biggest ECW title match since...I dunno...RVD/Cena? Was that even an ECW title match?

So...of course, I do this so most of my original prediction can still happen...only issue is where Jericho goes...but it makes for an even better MitB...

Taker v. HBK
Edge v. Christian ECW Title
Cena v. Batista World Heavyweight Title
HHH v. Sheamus WWE Title
Orton v. Legacy Handicap Match
Rey v. Punk Mask v. Hair
Mickie and Gail v. Beth and Maryse
MitB: Jericho/Morrison/Kofi/McIntyre/Hardy/Kane/MVP/Shelton
Miz v. Big Show U.S. Title

9 Matches...done and done.

Crazy idea for E.C.

Have Taker vs HBK vs Tista vs Jericho vs Christian vs Rey.. Tista/Rey go out early. Then HBK takes out Taker costing him the title and giving Taker a reason to wanna face him at WM, then HBK takes a dive (cause he doesnt care about the title, just Taker). Then the final 2 Jericho and Christian. Obviously Jericho wins, but you tease the fans in giving them Christian vs Edge as well. Then Christian can go win MITB.
