Quickly before I head to bed, I really enjoyed the kick-off to the season. They pretty much reminded us of everything we love about the show with the
awesome suspense at the beginning with all of them hiding under cars, a nice load of gore, the human aspect with the missing girl and panicking,
finger-pointing mom, and holy fuck, what an ending.
Welcome back Walking Dead.

Great episode, but holy shit, it felt like there was a commercial break every 5-10 minutes during the second half of the show!

I noticed that, too. There wasn't a single commercial during the first half hour or so, but they sure made up for it.
That's why children just hold you down in a situation like that... they're stupid and overly emotional. Andrea was getting on my nerves a
bit, too. For all that talk of her just wanting to die, it sure didn't seem like it when she was trapped in that bathroom.
Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.

I was watching it on a slight delay so the power of DVR eradicated any commercial issues I may have experienced otherwise .
Yeah, Andrea seemed a little "off" to me in that episode as well, Punker. She's been one of my favorite characters through the series but she
sure didn't come off too well in that episode. Hopefully she bounces back.
And do we have a challenger to the "hacking up the corpse and throwing all of its goo on the cast members" scene from last season as "Most
Disgusting Scene In Walking Dead History" in the "slicing open a walker's stomach and digging around for what it most recently ate" scene
from last night?

That ending... wow. It's been a long time since a TV show managed to make my jaw hit the floor like that.
Great ep, I have very high hopes for this season now. The scene where they opened up the church and found the zombies sitting in the pews was
chilling.

Pretty much agree with everything said here. The zombie autopsy made me both disgusted and laugh out loud at how unpleasant Rick was finding it, and
Derrel's "now comes the bad part". Though I have some nitpicks of my own
-the opening with Rick on the radio was confusing. He talks about losing a woman from the group two days earlier and it was her choice, and since
I'm totally blanking on anyone from season 1 it could refer to, I assumed this scene was from the future and the story going on now is a
flashback to all that, but he also then goes on to talk about the CDC and how they're leaving Atlanta, so it implies it's just after
season 1 ended, not to mention he's IN Atlanta it seems when he's talking on the radio, so here's either not left yet, or he's
came back after already leaving. Am I just missing something?
-Given how much maintenance Del's camper van needs and since it's logically the biggest gas guzzler, wouldn't it make more sense for
them to just hotwire a bunch of those deserted, newer cars and spread the group out in them a bit more?
-Andrea stabbed a zombie in the eye, and got its blood spurted all over her face, while screaming. Shouldn't she therefore have swallowed a bit
of it's blood and now be infected?
-This baffling example of logic:
Laurie: Why are you brushing off my son?
Shane: You told me to stay away from both of you.
Laurie: Have you FORGOTTEN what happened at the CDC?
Shane: Uh, no...isn't that a good reason for me to stay away?
Laurie: I know, but I'm going to switch from asking you to spend time with my kid to giving you shit about attempted drunken assault!

If I had a DVR I would just watch shows like this on a 20 minute stagger, and just FF the commercials. I felt the show was fine, but the pacing seemed
off and that was due to the commercial breaks. They went 25 minutes before the first, but then kicked them into overdrive towards the middle of the
show. It really fucked the pacing up.
Also the ad for the Spike awards basically broke the 4th wall, as did their webisodes advert.
The show itself was fine and I doubt I would have read any complaints this morning if it had just run with limited breaks, or if the viewers would
simply run their DVRs like you should.
In all it wasn't boring at all. We got hints at the group splintering in two directions. We got the great opening bit. We got a missing kid, and
another kid shot and looking pretty dead. It had a lot for 70 minutes or so.

Pretty sure he was talking about... I can't remember the lady's name... the black chick who chose to stay behind when the CDC was
detonated.

I thought about that, too, but maybe they want something bigger to haul a bunch of supplies? Plus, it gives them a few mobile beds to sleep in, and a
shower... providing they could find water and soap, I guess.

After the way she was practically slathered in Amy's blood when she was infected, that part didn't concern me much.

Ah. Seems weird though he'd only mention her and not the guy who was randomly digging a grave before the camp got attacked, which he got
infected from, before he just chose to be left on the side of the road on the way to the CDC.

Here's a question - Did anybody else think the black guy was toast once he cut his arm horribly?
Just another way this show is bucking usual horror norms.

After they made it a point to focus on the blood trail he'd left, I thought he might get eaten.
Speaking of blood, was the blood on the crucifix splattered on there from when they killed those zombies? Cool juxtaposition there if that was the
case.

Rick has been one-way communicating on the walkie talkie to Morgan (the black guy who helped him in the first episode with his son) every morning
(it's not all on camera, but he told Morgan that's what he'd do), so he's already talked about the guy diffing the grave who
was left on the side of the road.
So no, it doesn't seem weird to me that he only mentioned her.

This episode was excruciating in the best possible way. The wife and I sat transfixed and utterly involved as the zombie "herd" passed them by. At
several points, my wife was quite ready to opt out of the rest of the episode.
I thought for sure that T-Dog was done for, Daryl making the save was great. T-Dog magically recovering from spilling what appeared to be 5 gallons
of blood was less great, though.
And while I can understand Sophia cracking and breaking cover too early, I have trouble accepting Andrea being willing to guarantee
everyone's gruesome death by shooting one fucking zombie. That combined with her absurd behavior afterward has me officially
rooting for her death.
Shane has started acting like an idiot, but an idiot maybe trying to do the right thing. Lori is also acting like an idiot, but only when it comes to
Shane brushing off Carl, which is funny because she should be happy about that.
Speaking of Carl: When the hell did he become a complete moron? I know he's a kid, but when did he lose all of his self preservation instinct?
Is it because Lori is to busy angsting at Shane to even check on him as he wanders off looting dead bodies in a zombie apocalypse?
As for the ending? My reaction was the following:
"Holy shit! Holy shit! Fuck yeah!"
Despite those issues, I'm still excited. All of the stuff I enjoy is still there. Further, as has been said, this show has a tendency to turn
our expectations on their head. And if one has read or is aware of the comics, there may be an extremely good reason that all of this "Shane
rejecting Carl" stuff is happening.
Or, all of this could be a red herring. Unless we eventually get a time skip, these kids are going to age out of their roles. With a zombie
apocalypse going on, it's easy to write them out....
(Edited to remove potential spoilers if someone hasn't seen it yet.)

The television treatment is giving Robert Kirkman an opportunity to basically rewrite the comic from the beginning. After the first season I believe
that he said he wished he hadn't killed Shane off in issue #6 because the TV version showed him how much more he could have done with the
character if he'd kept him around for longer. As opposed to the more recent Romero movies, which really aren't worth following anymore,
it's beyond awesome to see how well a zombie apocalypse can work in film when it's given proper budgetting, SFX, stories, and good
acting.
I find the whole thing fascinating and it's about the first time I can remember looking positively at a "re-imagining" of a comic from printed
version to TV/movie. Ground woodchuck for dinner, anyone?

One thing that also stood out for me about this episode was how much of a hero to the group Daryl is slowly becoming. After the first season I thought
they would go the typical angry guy causes problems for the group, instead he seems to bail them out of trouble over and over again. I thought when he
took the gun from the suicide victim, that he would use it later in a power take over (especially with Shane saying they did not need a bunch of
people in the group running around with guns) so when he just handed it over to Lori, I was pleasantly shocked. Of all the new characters introduced
for the tv show, he is easily my favorite.
I remember Lucky Lopez.

I read that in an interview as well. I've also read how Kirkman realy likes the Daryl character, wished that he created him wish he could go
back in time and write him in the comic.
I also really dig Daryl's character. And Shane's character in the TV show is way better than the comic version. A lot of that is Shane
in the comic became jealous, unreasonable, and went a bit crazy. The TV version seems less jealous, more melancholy but practical about his
situation. A lot more reasonable and still pretty sane. You actually feel a little bad for Shane in the TV version.

Shane and Darryl are awesome and really make the TV show a 2nd place to enjoy a completely different world with the same basic outline as the comic. I
love Game of Thrones as much as anyone, but it's basically the books done in TV format with very small differences. So, I already know
what's gonna happen for the most part. With Walking Dead it's kinda like the TV show is a "What If" version of the comic. What if Darryl
was introduced? What if Shane didn't die?

In the comic book he did, but I think the show has already progressed past the point in the comics where that happened, which is why Dev was making
that analogy.

Is it going to become a running theme where Andrea gets attacked by a walker in every episode? And it always goes back to the inconsistency of her
wanting to kill herself yet she sure fights off those attacks when they come. Though that may be more reflex than anything else. No matter how
suicidal I was, I don't think I could bring myself to stand there and let a zombie rip me apart.
I also thought that was some VERY convenient timing when the vet's daughter come riding from out of nowhere and takes out the walker. How did
she find the group?
Very intense ending with Shane and Otis locked behind the cage gate with zombies trying desperately to get at them. I guess they'll find a way
out of it but I was thinking how horrible that would suck to just be trapped, basically in a cage, with no way out and hundreds of zombies ripping and
clawing at you.
