Just saw this myself as well...shocked and saddened. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. In my mind, you've had the best wrestling site on
the net going all the way to Wrestleline. As a matter of fact, I remember stumbling onto the NFD way back and was hooked since. You've got an
army behind you, man. Stay strong.

FYI, OO Nation: I'm back in the hospital.
Tube failure and dehydration are why. It sounds like I'll be staying till at least Tuesday this time; new spigots and plenty of fluids have
already been installed, but apparently, my body cannot yet be trusted to not suck.

Sorry to hear that man, thanks for keeping us updated. I had my mother in law put you on her church prayer list and then I had to explain to all her
old friends who you were. The legend of The Rick grows!

As I firmly believe that wrestling holds the answers to just about everything in life, I would hope that on Teh Rick's behalf someone recommends
the Simon System to his doctors. He's be dancing, or even possibly Segwaying, out of the hospital like a fat Samoan man wearing a thong within a
few days of treatment.
Just kidding and hopefully bringing a bit of a smile to our humble webmaster's face. Listen to the doc's and keep up the positive
attitude, Rick!
You know, everyone says it's not supposed to make sense, like that's the whole point, dude. And I'm just saying, you know,
that's like an excuse for lazy storytelling. Just don't sell me shite and tell me it's gold, all right? I might be stoned, but
I'm not high. You know what I mean?

Just to be clear, paddlefoot was not suggesting that The Rick take pictures of himself in a thong and post them here. If he was, consider this a vote
against , thereby pushing this to stalemate.

Dealing with my own non-lethal cancer at the moment. Had stitches taken out today. Next 4-6 months big for me. Here's hoping we bounce good
healing vibes off each other, Rick.

I'll second that. No fair one of us getting better, and not the other. Deal?
I don't know what flavor you got, but it sounds like you're already ahead of me in terms of excising and dealing with it. I wish you
continued progress. For me, I can't even begin to fathom the next 4-6 months, since the next 2 days are big. I've got the GI Doc who
(finally) conducted a successful biopsy tomorrow, and then a surgical oncologist who specializes in the pancreas on Friday afternoon.
The uncertainty is killing me, so at this point, whatever the news is, I think I'll be grateful to find out what's exactly wrong with me
tomorrow, and what we're going to do about it on Friday.

Dom and Rick you guys are both in my prayers. I wish you good luck dealing with a lousy situation. Stay positive.

So, here's the deal:
The doctors still aren't 100% sure what is growing on my pancreas; their best guess, according to the pathology report I got today, is
"vascularized fibroinflammatory lesion, consistent with benign pseudotumor."
The words "benign" and "pseudo" were music to my ears, but I have been cautioned that "consistent with" is NOT the same as "is definitely,"
and they won't be positive what's going on till they actually get the whole mass (not just 8 tiny samples) and can test it more
thoroughly.
So, to that end:
I have my big ol' surgery scheduled for Monday, February 24. It'll be The Whipple Procedure, or a variant of it.
They will flay me open, take off the head of the pancreas, and re-biopsy the whole mass right then and there. Best case scenario: nothing else is
wrong, and they only have to do a partial "pylorus-preserving" Whipple (which still takes 6 hours, which should tell you this is NOT gonna be a walk
in the park). If they find any signs of malignancy or other inflammation, we move towards the Full Whipple, where they take out even more of my guts
(mostly lymph nodes, but potentially as much as half my stomach), which takes about 10 hours.
Needless to say, "benign" or no, this is still gonna be a pretty big deal. I'll be in the hospital for another 10-14 days afterwards, and back
on tube feeding for at least 3 weeks, too. So, unfortunately, we're looking at another month or two of "Less Rick" around here. If all goes
well -- that is to say, it really is benign and there's no chemo or anything after the surgery -- we're basically looking at May 1 as my
"back to normal" target date.
That's not exactly the most heartening thought... but given the sometimes-frightening roller coaster ride they've had me on the past 6
weeks, the mere prospect of "normal" -- no matter how far off -- is a light at the end of the tunnel that has me breathing a nominal sigh of relief
on this day.

Sounds thoroughly unpleasant but at least you finally have an answer and a path to follow. You've run a damn great site here, Rick, the best
wrestling-related one on the whole internet as far as I'm concerned, and with it have given me a great place to visit on a regular basis. For
that I thank you. For whatever it's worth I'm saying every atheist "prayer" I can for you and your family to pull through this thing.
May The Force Be With You. And, just to help speed up the healing process, mebbe you'll get lucky enough that at least a couple of the nurses in
your ward walk in a motion exactly like this:
Hey, boobies and ripe, firm-apple tushies always seem to cheer me up!

Godspeed Rick! Thoughts and prayers being sent your way.
I've been the victim of not one but two hernia surgeries and I'm not sure how this will compare but I do know that recovering from
abdomen/intestine-related surgery SUCKS (mainly due to the fact that basically ANY motion you make with your body ties back to your stomach/abdomen).
Hope you bounce back quick and with a minimum of pain due to ample (and damn strong) painkillers!

If you get the full Whipple, try renaming your midsection "Charmin," as this guy's tag line will be very useful:

Please also try to avoid the Full Monty as well. Or even any partial Monties, considering the well known pitfalls of hospital gowns.
Screw you guys, I'm going home.

Probably also best to avoid full or half-full Monty Sopps as well. But a full Mountie wouldn't be too bad, since they always get their man.

Get well
Hi Rick. First post ever. I have been reading your columns since the News From Dayton days. That's probably a good 18- 19 years. Just wanted to
say thank you and that I wish you a fast recovery and many more years of doing what you love to do.
