Odd graphics-related problem...

There isn't really a "tech support" forum specific to problems viewing these forums, so.. Here I am.

I'm using uBlock Origin as a web-condom (aka pop-up/ad blocker), and I've also installed GreaseMonkey so I can use scripts to take care of the things that uBlock doesn't. The problem I find myself with is that half-or-more of the images people use in posts don't show up, and there's no indication that there's even an image there. Furthermore, I'm not even seeing most of the forum avatars. I get a very select few of those, but mostly the space where they are normally seen is blank. If somebody posts -only- a picture, I see a blank post. If I quote the post, I can see the [img] tags and the url in the editing interface, and after visiting the url in a separate tab it will show up in the original post as it should. If I refresh the page, it goes away again. It seems to be =especially= bad with imgur.com hosted pictures.

I've got uBlock turned off for all of the OO.com, and I even tried adding an exception to my GreaseMonkey script for the imgur.com domain, with no change to the situation. I've tried turning BOTH of them off, and reloading pages, and still no luck. I don't know what else to do, because I'm not exactly good at the behind-the-scenes parts of weblife. I mean, I can google and stuff, but I'm not even sure in this case what I should be googling for. I'm certainly not a "scripter/coder/web-designer" type, so adding exceptions to a pre-existing list is about as complicated a task as I can manage. Anybody have a clue what I'm doing wrong/not doing/should be doing?

If screenshots would help, I can at least do that. If anybody needs more better describering of my problem, I can attempt to do that too. It's not exactly a crippling problem, but it's a bit of a nuisance to have to quote/copy/paste/go to url/return to original post just so I can get my gif-related giggles.

Eta: And my signature keeps vanishing. When it does, the only way I can "fix" it is by editing my profile, deleting the signature, and putting it back in. (I cut/paste it, I do know how to do that, at least.) I'm terribad at this Forum Thing.

It could be an issue with uBlock Origin itself vs. regular uBlock. You might have to dumb it down to regular uBlock or dump it and get AdBlock or really get nuts and fuck around with settings and extensions or whatever wizardry goes into making contooters work. Whatever it is, get it fixed 'cause I don't gifshitpost just for my health goddamnit.

For what it's worth, I'm running AdBlockPlus and Ghostery and the only problems I ever have is when I need to toggle them on and off so I can get Supernatural to load on the CW site. Outside of that, I'm pretty sure no one can see what I'm doing other than the N.S.A. TAC team that's either watching what I'm Internutting in alternating waves of disgust and bemusement or are nervously awaiting the Go/No Go code from HQ to launch the takedown assault of the Janerdome.

I have nothing helpful to add, but I'm typing this because I figured you should know that janerd and I both are capable of...y'know...typing.

1) If you're using Chrome you can reset it to the original defaults through the Settings tab in the top right corner of your screen underneath the red "x" exit. I did this once with a similar problem of not being able to see pictures and it fixed the issue right away. You can probably do the same with Firefox or IE as well.
2) If you've got OO Forums bookmarked in a favourites folder just delete it. Then go through the OO main page again to get to the Forums. Reset Forums as a bookmark again. I once had a problem with OO not liking the computer I was using at the time with a bookmark that I had imported from yet another computer. Once I deleted the old imported bookmark and set up a new one it worked completely fine afterwards.

No matter how hard I try I can't win the lottery. Or get a woman with big boobs and a hot ass to love me.

If that's Your two limitations , then I'd suggest licking your eyebrows when large chested, great ass chicks are around. If she works for the lottery, you make kill both short comings.

Bollocks to the lot of you. Clearly the Count needs our help and you're all making light of his situation. Dude, just start smashing buttons and toggling switches like this and I'm absolutely certain you'll still be able to see all the gifs I post.

This usually works good when things start beeping too much.

Okies. I'm using Pale Moon (a firefox spinoff) because it looks like Ye Olde Firefoxe (before they started looking like Chrome), and that's what I like. I may have to clear cache or reset stuff, those are both ideas I hadn't contemplated until Mr. Foot suggested resetting. (See? I'm not terribly thinkful about the Whirl Why Wubs.) The bookmark-related suggestion is worth a shot, but I have OO-mainsite bookmarked, and then just click my way to the forums.

The strange thing is this started happening not when I switched from FF to PM (which was a few weeks ago), but randomly at some point after. More Stranger Still is that it happens when I turn off the blocker-things (but not "disable add-on", I'll have to try that too). In my Firefox install, I have the same combo of uBlockOrigin (because it's open-source and free! uBlock is all kinds of shady from various reports) and GreaseMonkey, and it all works fine there. I think. It did the last time I visited here with them. I'd test, but I apparently uninstalled the FF at some point & don't really remember doing so.

The irony is that I can see the images in this thread (or at least, I -think- I see them all; there are two of the Good Doctor, and Homer w/water), but not a single avatar other than mine & Merc's. what is this I don't even how does... *headsplode*

Long story short, it -does- seem like something janktacular is going on with my specific setup, instead of being a particular forum-related bug. I appreciate all y'all trying to help, and I'll no doubt resort to the smashing-things method before long.

Sam & John & I all thank you very much.

I felt like I should post a picture, just because peer-pressure.

Final Update!

It was, it seems, my version of the HTTPS Everywhere add-on that was causing the issue. According to the website where I got my browser, the 'official' version doesn't work properly with Pale Moon, so I hadda get a 'forked' version called Encrypted Web. Anywho, when I disable it, the gif shenanigans return! Yayyyy!

So I figured I'd document the solution in case anybody else walks the same twisted path I did, or one located in a similar forest of confusion. Once more, thanks to everybody who tried to help, and if you read this week's Raw Thread you'll see a shiny blue ribbon given to the person who randomly helped me figure it out by accident.
