OOfficial Discussion Thread for: RAW (May 2, 2016)
Tonight on RAW: it's just a short 3-week turnaround to Extreme Rules, but on the heels of last night's Payback, we do seem to have
a good idea of where WWE is headed, and there isn't a whole lot of need for a wacky post-PPV Reset Button Show...
AJ Styles can claim two "wins" over Roman Reigns, but Reigns won the important one to retain the WWE Title... per the edict of Shane McMahon, it
appears those two will have a rematch, and it will be under the titular Extreme Rules rules. Ahem. Obviously, this keeps the door wide open for all
manner of extracurriculars and shenanigans, which are sure to continue featuring the Usos and Gallows/Anderson...
Thanks to Kevin Owens pulling double duty last night, we've now got a 4-way battle over the IC Title, with champion Miz dealing with challengers
Cesaro, Owens, and Sami Zayn.... there is so much potential for awesomeness with those four (Cesaro/Zayn are just gold, dating back to 10 years ago in
ROH, and as witnessed as recently as 2 years ago in NXT; and Cesaro/Owens have only crossed paths once or twice, making that kind of a Dream
Slobberknocker; and in fairness to Miz, he's quietly having his best year in a long time, with recent very good matches against Styles, Reigns,
and last night, Cesaro)...
Charlotte and Nattie fighting over the Women's Title can't be over, following last night's Chicago Screwjob... whatever the original
plans were for the tag division, I think the obvious play for the quick turnaround is to let the Vaudevillains scoop up some cheap heat by taking
credit for Enzo's injury and then demanding a title match against the New Day at Extreme Rules (a more serious build-up can come after ER, once
Gallows/Anderson or the rebooted Colons or heel-turned Usos or remnants of the LoN or whoever are ready to challenge for the straps)... and despite
Dolph's victory last night, the Ziggler/Baron Corbin issue ain't over until Corbin wins the feud...
So that's 5 things that logically follow from Payback... but there are a few fresh issues the do need to be addressed....
(1) First and foremost, the implosion of the League of Nations needs to be sorted out... who's staying heel, who's going face, will a
fourth person (Barrett, even? He's still got a month or two left on his contract) be involved, to make sure sides are even? Sheamus, by far, has
the most experience playing a babyface, and the story last Thursday was clearly that Rusev and ADR just flat out abandoned him... but I don't
think it would take much for Rusev (with Lana) to gain traction as fan favorites... (2) Chris Jericho is once again on hiatus, having done a lovely
job over the past month building himself up in order to put Dean Ambrose over; and now, Ambrose needs something new to do... luckily, with the Ambrose
Asylum talk show segment, it's super easy to spontaneously generate friction with just about anyone... and (3) Kalisto once again defeated
Ryback, and is still the US Champion, despite being primarily a tag wrestlers; he needs something to really sink his teeth into if the US Title
isn't to become a complete and total afterthought...
And of course, tonight begins the Shane vs. Stephanie Co-Controllership of RAW, which could be fun, but could just as easily lead to WWE punting one
whole 20 minute segment every week so that they can serve up an over-long and patience-trying McMahonapalooza... if Shane wants to keep innovating and
freshening things up, he's got both the returning Titus O'Neil and the recently-defrocked Finn Balor to use as ammunition... if Steph
wants to assert her vision, well, Triple H *is* advertised locally as appearing at tonight's tapings, so we might see the Authority
reunited...
It should also be noted that WWE's about to get an infusion of injured stars returning... John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, and
Neville should all be cleared to return over the course of the next month and a half or so (Cena already set his return date as Memorial Day)... none
may be available for Extreme Rules, but some or all of them will come in VERY handy for helping to populate the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, which
takes place in late June... also, with regards to Rollins specifically, if the roster starts choosing up sides between Shane and Steph, it could be
interesting if Shane or Steph is in contact/cahoots with any of these guys or will "take credit" with the fans when they return...
I believe that is all. End communication....
The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome.
So discuss, debate, and rate!

Steph open the show with some sibling blather which gives way to Cesaro and Owens kicking off the I.C. title scrum.

I'm interested in seeing what direction they go with the main event tonight. Surely at some point we have to have a 6-man tag match, right?

I think a drop kick to the face followed by a top rope gut wrench suplex is an impressive finisher. To have Owens back up seconds later weakens the
story. How can spears and F5's do jack after what this match has burned.
They are called "letters" when put together they make "words". Words make moving photos unnecessary.

Good to see they're letting the bottom of the roster get some screen time.

On one hand, Breeze picked up a win. On the other hand, it feels like this Goldust/R-Truth story is never going to end.
Edit: Considering that fact, maybe the payoff on the Primo/Epico stuff is that Goldust and R-Truth finally reconcile and head to Puerto Rico to fight
them with Puerto Rico's financial stability in the balance. Tyler Breeze and Fandango will also be there, but mostly just to hang around in
clubs.

So tonight, the new GM's have booked a 6-man tag match for the main event and now this 8-man tag. I wasn't aware Teddy Long was in charge
again?

What I've taken from the show so far....Owens should hold the WWE from now until his KOMania match against Sami Zayn.
Owens is another level on everyone, and Sami is Daniel Bryan with height. I can't remember the last time the WWE had a face and heal peeking at
that level at the same time. They have a great story to build around, and the match would be the best on the card.
So instead it'll be Roman vs Cena.

They should do a angle with the Dudleys and someone like a Bo Dallas....where they "teach" him how to wrestle, and there just over bearing on him
and he slowly gets tougher and picks up their traits.

... And now Emma gets a win. Is half the roster on their way to Japan or something? What's next, Sandow vs. Heath Slater?

I'm so happy that Mitch has finally found an on-screen role. Mitch has a lot to add to the product, and is getting a chance to contribute in a
meaningful way.
eta: Goddammit. Mitch is being held down.
just when my man Mitch gets a chance... Dammit, Jericho. You're supposed to be putting the Mitches of this world over.
