MLB 2016 Regular Season or Back to the Future 2 Was Off a Year Maybe?

A month in, here's the notes:

-Dee Gordon has been suspended for 80 games for PED's. Which only means important things to his fantasy baseball owners, as the Marlins are actually doing admirable considering they're the Marlins. Apparently, Rob Manfred has more suspensions to be announced soon.

-The Chicago Cubs have lost 6 games so far in the season. And that's a bit more insane to think about because Kyle Schwarber, their homerun wunderkind that kinda plays left field, went down two series into the season for the year and they didn't do what they usually do and completely collapse. It's also really hard to watch the games because if I wind up tuning in halfway through a game (or even two innings in), the Cubs are usually already up 7-0. This has both made me hate my job a lot more and also gives me a smidgen of hope that this is, in fact, the year they finally win it all.

So outside of Oriole fans, is there anybody who doesn't want Toronto vs Texas round 2?

Welp, not only did they get their round 2, but after today, they seem pretty set on getting to the ALCS on Sunday. Heck, with how Cleveland is handling Boston right now, we very likely could have Cleveland/Toronto as the ALCS matchup by Sunday.

Also, quite a bit of a gripe, but fuck MLB for making every game in the Giants/Cubs series an 8:00 or later start time. It doesn't even seem like a West Coast bias because LA and Washington seems to have every single one of their games scheduled for the afternoon. But you're dealing with a team that has a huge viewing market, and you're immediately making it so that every single one of the games will test whether the fans want to watch a full game or get in something resembling sleep before they have to go to work the next day (I'm assuming this series goes at least 4).

As of this point in time, me and all the other Rangers fans everywhere.

Damn - Toronto and Cleveland are in beast mode right now. That's going to be a great series.

As for the Rangers....we invested in bats, not pitching. Our bats are not batting and our not-pitching is not pitching. By no means making excuses - I give the majority of "why we are 0-2 with 2 home losses" credit to the Blue Jays than blame to my team.

From @DownGoesBrown on twitter:

But hey, Rangers fans still had a better night than Mike Pence.

Dodgers won today. Off to Washington for a game 5.

Hopefully we go to DC and do what anyone who wants to succeed there does-- grab them by the pussy.

Holy shit the Cubs just came back from a three run deficit in the 9th and ended the Giants' once every two year streak! I'm as happy as I could ever be!

Ouch! Two down in two games already. Not surprising though. End of the regular seasons statistics and standings sometimes matter because a sub-par team can only cover up for so long until they run into a superior one. Cleveland finished first in their division eight games ahead of Detroit. Toronto finished four games behind Boston and sneaked in on a wild card game win. It's just the better team rising to the top right now, and Toronto probably used up all their angry energy against Texas and the detestable OdorSmell.

You know, everyone says it's not supposed to make sense, like that's the whole point, dude. And I'm just saying, you know, that's like an excuse for lazy storytelling. Just don't sell me shite and tell me it's gold, all right? I might be stoned, but I'm not high. You know what I mean?

Yup. Complete domination by Cleveland. They are vastly superior to the Jays. Or, you know, they got a lucky bounce and the Jays hitters have been swing happy.

With Stroman and Sanchez up, the Jays can tie thing up in the batters relax.

What are the chances that any fan at Wrigley in the first row on Saturday even thinks about trying to catch a foul ball?

And if they do try, what are the chances they make it out of the stadium alive?

Screw you guys, I'm going home.

As a Cubs fan with a long time intense dislike of all the hatred Bartman got I hope to god we don't have to go through that again. He (and every other bit of curse talk) was always an easy scapegoat when the real reason we lost was poor play and Dusty not doing his job to keep the team loose and get pitchers out when they weren't doing well.

This team though is easily the most likeable of my lifetime and has been built on a completely different level from all the others. I've never seen another Cubs team as resilient as this one and part of that reason I'm sure is they were built with chemistry in mind just as much as talent. But the talent...even if we lose this series we're gonna be good for a while unlike when we overspent on aging players like Soriano hoping they would bring lightning in a bottle.

I hope if we do win Bartman is allowed to ride in the victory parade as a f you to the old ownership showing that it isn't curses but poor ownership and team building that lost us all the previous seasons.

Go Cubs!

And just imagine if, instead of the Palins, the Obama family had a pregnant, underage daughter on display at their convention, flanked by her black boyfriend who "intends" to marry her. Who among conservatives would have resisted the temptation to speak of "the dysfunction in the black community"?

That'll do it for the Billy Goat. Now just have to get this 108 year thing out of here and we should be good.

Here's the biggest mystery of this year: how in the hell did Joe West get the nod to make the officiating staff of a World Series, let alone one of the biggest?

Sure seeing the Cubs (THE CUBS) win a title is nice because it gives hope to the Leafs...but did you guys see Bill Murray's face!!! When the final out was made, that look on Bill's face...that's why people invest so much in sports.

Also, you have to love how he went on to the field (because who is going to stop Bill Motherfucking Murray from doing what he wants) and honks the car that's to be award to the series MVP.

I'm still coming down from that win. In retrospect, that was a fun game to watch. If you were neutral, you enjoyed everything. If you were a Cubs fan, you enjoyed everything outside of the eighth inning. If you were an Indians fan (or just rooting against the Cubs), you enjoyed bits and pieces where the Indians looked like they could rally, and then the eighth inning where they did rally. It wasn't the greatest managed game, and parts were sloppy, but the drama was there and real, and now America can stop talking about goats and Bartman's.

Besides the birth of my daughter, best night of my life by far. Invested so much time, so much heartache and hope into this team and finally it comes true in the most agonizing and stressful way possible because Cubs. But my god so worth it.

As a longtime Cardinals fan, I say congrats to the Cubs and their fans. They waited a long time for this one. Not all of us in the STL feel contractually obligated to hate on them.
