Thank God, I hated the submission system last year. If they want to keep that "catch me if you can" bit in, so be it, but it was damned near
impossible to get a submission against the AI because they always knew which way you were going and adjusted immediately.
I just started playing WWE 2k16 the other day and holy fuck, so much yes. I'm not going to lie. The submission system has me thinking about
quitting the game before i've barely played it.

I say this every year, but now's the time to say it again. I won't be picking this one up unless it gets absolutely stellar reviews. I
have barely played 2K16--I played through the showcase and a little bit of career--and this was the first year that I avoided all DLC. It just
didn't seem worth it. XBone had the game for free w/gold, but I don't see that as a yearly tradition...unless, it pays off for 2K in
increased sales for this year's model that is. BTW Xbox360 games with gold become yours forever, but the XBone ones are only yours as long as
you keep the subscription up to date, so buying the game outright is about the best way to go.
As for this game: the submission system WAS terrible. The gameplay and commentary still seem rehashed, and 2K needs to do a complete overhaul. In the
old days the wrestling games had different styles. Each brand felt differently and played differently. Of course now 'WWE' is pretty much
the only brand popular enough to warrant a videogame, and it feels the same on all current generation platforms.

The final round of roster reveals were released this morning on IGN. Asuka and Bayley appear to be the only brand new additions off the top of my
head. Although I feel like I should include Road Dogg, because I seem to remember Billy Gunn flying solo as "The One" instead of "Mr. Ass" in last
years Showcase mode... Speaking of Asuka, though, they also released her entrance video:
Interesting to note that Cole still makes use of the term "Divas Division." I'm sure though that that'll be updated once the game comes
out, though.

Keep the roster essentially the same from last year while adding necessary new guys? Check. Change stupid submission system? Check. This pretty
much covered both the criteria I wanted them to hit for 2K17. And with DLC to add more (I expect Godfather, Stan Hansen, Jackie, and at least three
Freebirds added), this might be the pinnacle WWE game.

Gameplay trailer dropped today
ETA: Last year it was Bawitdaba, this year it's Bad Boy 4 Life. Come on WWE/2K! I know you signed up Puff Drizzle for whatever reason, but
surely you could spring for something a little more contemporary couldn't you? Or at least something that didn't suck 15 years ago and
still sucks. At this rate I'm willing to bet that 2K18's trailer is going to use Saliva's Click Click Boom or something by P.O.D.
Bottom line, if you're insisting on being stuck in the past, then why not bring back the AKI engine from that same era?

DLC has been announced and there are some interesting (and a few not so interesting) picks.
From a since deleted post on WWE.com, which lives on in the godless cesspool that is the 2K forums because unlike Harambe, the Internet is forever:
Future Stars pack
- Austin Aries
- Karl Anderson
- Luke Gallows
- Mojo Rawley
- Tye Dillinger
Hall of Fame Showcase
- Cactus Jack & Diamond Dallas Page vs. The Fabulous Freebirds (Jimmy Garvin & Michael P.S. Hayes) (WCW Saturday Night, 1992)
- The Fabulous Freebirds (Buddy Roberts & Michael P.S. Hayes) vs. Kerry & Kevin Von Erich (WCCW 1986)
- Ivory vs. Jacqueline (Smackdown 2000)
- Sting (gold and black tights) vs. Ric Flair (Clash of Champions 1988)
- Sting (nWo Wolfpac) vs. Bret Hart (WCW Halloween Havoc 1998)
- Papa Shango vs. The Godfather
- Big Bossman (with Albert) vs. Big Show (Armageddon 1999)
Legends Pack
- Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake
- Eddie Guerrero
- Greg "The Hammer" Valentine
- Sycho Sid
- Tatanka
So yeah, old school fans are PISSED about Terry Gordy getting snubbed, and I don't know how or why Roddy Piper, Honky Tonk Man, and X-Pac got
dropped in favor of Brutus fucking Beefcake, Tatanka, and Greg Valentine, but Ivory is a really nice surprise (I was expecting
Jacqueline's showcase to have Sable but I'd way rather have Ivory), I'm stoked that Aries and Eddie made it in, and while I'm
a little disappointed that Gargano and Ciampa aren't in and Bobby Roode didn't show up in time to make the cut, it gives us something to
look forward to next year.
And tbh I'd pay the full price of the season pass for Papa Shango alone so.

I'm guessing Albert gets added to the list of "very odd choices for managers" since he's included with the Bossman showcase. I was
hoping Bossman's Showcase would include the Twin Towers so we could finally get Akeem in a game (he's my last holdout ever now that Papa
Shango is back in a game), but I suppose reliving Bossman's feud with Big Show isn't bad so long as they remake the funeral incident.
And they forgot Stan Hansen to add onto the Terry Gordy miss. BUT, they got Gallows and Anderson and Aries all in, plus the inclusion of Sid makes
for a fun addition, so I'm perfectly fine with this season pass (and, yeah, like CiG said: Papa Shango makes it worth the $20).

He was actually still "Prince Albert" at the time, but I guess this is the new PG era so...
Tye f'n Dillinger! Really stoked for that one. Dude is so good and has been floundering in the WWE system forever. Good for him getting a video
game check.
Agreed with old school fans...wtf on Gordy? Unless there were issues with his family not wanting him involved (which I kinda doubt...wasn't
Jesse there for the Freebirds HOF induction?), would it have killed them to throw in Gordy and one more Von Erich for a six-man in the showcase?
Finally, if they're going to go to "dream matches" for the showcase and not necessarily all historical matches that actually happened, seems
like Stan Hansen vs Late 90s-era Bradshaw would've been a natural.

I just assumed Vader was in the game because Hansen was going to be DLC. Yeah, it's weird that he wasn't included.

Picked this up this afternoon and have been toying around with it for a bit. There's a lot I like about this that may turn others off. For
starters, we already knew no Showcase. That seems to be the biggest review gripe, but it means nothing to me. I did think they might force me into
MyCareer mode, which I'm typically not a fan of because the difficulty and AI modifiers are typically set in stone, but instead, to unlock
characters, arenas, and belts, you earn currency during Universe and MyCareer and just buy the ones you want (they're mostly legend DLC from the
last game like Arn, Zybysko, and the Disasters, but also alternate year Stings, Luger, the "Faces of Foley", and the requisite Hall and Nash
versions of Razor and Diesel...plus Razor and Diesel). They also give you 200k points which let me get the Enforcers, Luger, and the Outsiders right
away, which is nice.
The soundtrack is what you'd expect from Diddy: his stuff, some weird dubsteppy reggae song, and a generic rock title or two.
The one thing I don't really think is going to fit in is the promo system. I had no idea what the hell I was supposed to do, and it seems like
WWE and 2K had a bare minimum understanding as to how crowds actually react to their shows, as each audience falls into a classification and none of
them seem to like anything. Plus the camera chops quite a bit during them.
But nothing really changed for better or worse. Commentary still sucks (and there's more of it), the action is still the same except for the
submission system change (I love the two option system), and the graphics...ehhh, it's probably for the best that they didn't hype that
they scanned people this time, because it's a bit on the hit or miss side.
But it's still a good way to kill some time.
-Edited to add: Okay, so there is one that may be a deal-breaker if it holds up, but Universe mode seems to be taking more of a "We know best"
attitude, because I haven't found a way yet to make the matches I want. And tag matches only seem to let you control one guy and not their
partner so far, which makes for a dragged out experience since 2K AI is pretty dumb across their gaming board. It might not be that way and
it's just difficult to find, but that did annoy me a bit.

Since I'm currently being garroted by the poverty line, I used a free rental that I banked a while back with Redbox to pick up the game. Par for
the course I've been playing it for about 5 hours on and off and I've yet to touch anything remotely involving gameplay. Why? Because
I've been knee deep in the creation suite which has received a BIG overhaul this year. I'm honestly surprised that wasn't made a
selling point for the game. I'll check back in after I return the game tomorrow with a more thought out review of that side of things since it
seems nOOb has the gameplay side covered.

This is a funny article about the glitches that the game is rife with:

Those glitches are everywhere, and I will say that this is the most a WWE game has ever frozen on me (which is to say three times now). But, the
gameplay is definitely making up for it. I figured out how to edit the Universe cards, and it sort of makes since that you have to edit the show
rather than just per match since each card is much larger than the four match setup they had before (anywhere from 6-8 matches a card).
I did also find out that I can't control my tag partner in Universe because 2K just didn't put it in. They might, and it's probably
an easier add-fix than revamping the submission system which they didn't do last year (but did this year), but chances are they won't as
an "incentive but not an incentive" to buy 2K18 next year (since, let's face it, this roster is going to be pretty complete after all the
DLC).
This really hasn't been a major, unplayable issue, but it is hit or miss. My first tag match had Chad Gable setting my Jason Jordan up for the
tag finisher, but after it was complete he proceeded to not prevent Enzo from breaking up the pin, but my last tag match had my Kevin Nash taking a
mid-air Trouble in Paradise, only for AI Scott Hall to immediately run in, hit his signature on Kofi, take out Xavier, and pin him. So when the AI is
good, it's makes the matches a hell of a lot of fun to watch fold out, but when it's bad, it's usually making the match three times
longer than it needs to be and costing you the match at the same time.
Sidenote: the AI loves to utilize small packages. Like, a lot. It's almost a once per match thing, and it gets a bit annoying because the pin
escapes seem a bit touchy to the point where I have to restart the match. Also, turn off Fatigue before starting a Universe. It seems to drain
really fast, which makes the matches a huge hassle (not to mention that's where I see most of the "bad" glitches come from).

This is a weird question, but I picked up the game last year and played through the Austin thing and a bit on My Career, and tried the Universe mode
and didn't really understand the point of it. Is it like a thing where you book the cards and direct how it plays out, or is it a universe
generated for you and you see how it plays out with your influence in certain matches, or what? I'm so out of the loop on WWE stuff, I really
just got sucked in on the Austin story and thought My Career would be fun but looking to see if I would enjoy the Universe mode if I stuck with it
more.
That's racism man! I love to racism bro!

It can be either, depending on what you want, really. Especially this year where they've retooled it a bit and you have a lot more control over
feuds and whatnot.

So as black Friday is quickly becoming a thing up here in Canada I've learned my lesson from last year in that all yearly sports games seem to
be the usual suspects for a massive black Friday price drop... I talked myself out of waiting for NHL 17 and bought it for $79, but held out for WWE
2K17 and was rewarded for it nabbing it on Amazon for $39... not bad for a game that has only been out about a month and half.
Should be here in the next couple of days and looking forward to it... I figure saving $40 is worth more to me than having to pay $3-5 for Goldberg
down the line.
