Goldberg as a preorder for 2K17 was the surprise in the Hatch, so we're at that time of the year where this is a topic. Last year had a lot of
goodness on the roster side of things, to the point where there wasn't a point in getting this as it was so complete until NXT absorbed a lot of
the good parts of TNA, the Dudleys and ADR came back, and the Bullet Club got brought in. So getting 2K17 right is simple: keep last year's
roster the same (minus the guys that aren't in WWE anymore), add everyone listed above, make last year's DLC part of the regular roster,
and go full legend and newer NXT guys on the DLC.
Will 2K get it right? Will WWE let them? Stay tuned!

At least they got Sasha into a game before Vince decides to Daniel Bryan her.
I'm curious to see who they get for DLC this year. I figure Gallows and Anderson are a little late to the show to make the disc, but they got
in around the same timeframe Joe did when he made it. Would also be cool see Aries in the game on the actual disc since he's been on the
official NXT roster since before Mania...same with Nakamura. And there's zero reason AJ Styles shouldn't be on the disc since he's
been with the company since the Rumble.
But, again, copy last year's roster, remove the guys not with the company anymore, add the DLC from last year to the roster, as well as Styles,
the Dudleys, and the new NXT guys, and it's a definitive roster making it a must buy.

I picked up last year's game for Xbone since I didn't get 2K15 the previous year. I managed to avoid all DLC this time and just stuck with
the core game. I like the 'current gen' game play and the roster was pretty good, but I find that I haven't played it as much as
previous games in the series. It really could use a new engine. If they bring back create a story, I'll be much more likely to buy it.

Brock is this year's cover guy. I would imagine this means he's getting the Showcase this year, which would mean a few of the roster
extras would be over the span of Brock's career. But looking back at his career, no one stands out as a "I completely forgot about that guy!"
addition, unless they're going to magically remember Chris Benoit (which would allow for them to remember his Survivor series team with Matt
Morgan and Nathan Jones), but with all the guys from his early career in TNA (the Hardys and Al Snow), or dead (Crash) or still not forgiven for
racism (Hulk), I expect we get Hardcore Holly as the only unexpected roster guy.
Whee?

First DLC pack announced is actually an inclusion with the NXT Special Edition version that WWE is releasing (it has statues and cards and typical
collector's edition stuff). Shinsuke Nakamura, Apollo Crews, and Nia Jax are available to buyers of the Collector's Edition immediately,
while everyone else picks it up later.

Stephanie McMahon

Apparently the weekly reveal chunks begin next week, so I guess we can start the checklist:

First real roster reveal installment is out, and we're already out of date! Los Matadores make the cut, despite having not been on TV in forever
and in fact already having been repackaged in a new gimmick months ago. A lot of tag teams, and a few legends lead this pack. The current roster:

Okay, so there is a decent chance that, at the very least, last year's story mode-added and DLC guys are main roster this year. I'm
holding a little hope out that DDP and Rick Rude make the cut from last year's "last year's DLC to main roster" guys, but there's
also a few of those guys that don't need to make the roster (ie Colonel Mustafa and General Adnan).

These roster reveals are getting more and more disappointing every year. Not that I don't appreciate having a buttload of people available to
play as or against but the choices are so strange. Larry Zybysko? I'm sure he has his fans but unless they have a showcase mode for him that
consists of two things: turning on Bruno and being completely unbearable on commentary on Nitro, I just don't see the point.
Hell, they could announce the roster as being mostly just mid-Aughts washouts like Bam Neely, Mordecai, Hade Vansen, Heidenreich, Chris F'n
Masters, Eric Escobar, Deuce & Domino, And Tyler Reks and I'd be fine with it so long as we were promised a deeper CAW mode and a more engaging
Career Mode. Bring back the branching storylines from yesteryear. Rip off NBA's Spike Lee in-game movie for your CAWs own "WWE Network
Special". SOMETHING. ANYTHING. Because for the last 2-3 years all I've done is bought the game, made an ungodly amount of detailed CAWs who I
then had nothing to do with because the story and online modes sucked.

Zbysko was a hall of famer last year and was a part of their 2015 Hall of Fame DLC pack. That's why he's in it (and why we'll
probably get Arn Anderson, Stevie Ray, the Natural Disasters, and the Bushwhackers).

Oh yeah, I remember that. But aside from the fact that they have his character model rarin' to go, I really don't see any reason for
somebody like him to be taking up space on the game when I'm sure there will be at least a handful of glaring omissions from the roster when all
is said and done. Let's face it, Zybysko superfans aren't exactly the target demo for next-gen gamers. Guys who had more prominent roles
in the 80's pro-wrestling zeitgeist would be better candidates for involvement in the roster, and yeah they've been well represented in
prior iterations of the game, but even then I can't help but feel a little irked when you have (PRESUMABLY) Jim Neidhart taking up a spot on the
release date roster, while I'm going to have to cough up a couple extra bucks for a special edition or DLC pack to get a chance to place as or
against Nakamura.
But hey, fingers crossed I can play as General Adnan again.
ETA: Taking into consideration the HoF inclusions, I guess that means we can look forward to...
-Another version of Sting (or based on Flair's induction speech; Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat after a teleporter mishap)
-The Godfather (If that means an alternate Papa Shango attire, Wade Barrett and I will be quite happy)
-The Big Bossman (I feel like he's been included more recently)
-Jacqueline (vs. Eva Marie all of the times)
-Stan Hansen (who I don't believe I've played as in a videogame since, what? Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 for the N64? Fire Pro Wrestling?)
-The Fabulous Freebirds (that'd be fun, especially if P.S. and Jimmy Jam start off every match with depleted stamina al their HoF entrance.)
-Snoop Dogg (why not?)

While the next round of roster reveals are slated for tomorrow it's been revealed today that
continuing his tradition of making money off of othwr
peoples music, Puff Daddy/P. Diddy/Whogives A. Shitty/Sean "Puffy" Combs has been enlisted to curate the in-game soundtrack.
quote:Action Bronson & Joey Bada$$ (feat. Rico Love) What About The Rest Of Us
Anderson .Paak Come Down
Andy Black We Dont Have To Dance
Axwell Λ Ingrosso This Time
Black Sabbath Paranoid
Bring Me The Horizon Run
FIDLAR Drone
French Montana (feat. Kojak Black) Lockjaw
iSHi (feat. French Montana, Wale, & Raekwon) We Run
P. Diddy, Black Rob & Mark Curry Bad Boy For Life
Travis Barker & Yelawolf Out of Control
Twenty One Pilots Ride
Yellow Claw (feat. Lil Eddie) We Made It
Yay? Not to be all stodgy but I plan on immediately shutting off the background music, or just setting it to play entrance themes. It still upsets me
that you can't sync up a Spotify playlist or something for background music, and more importantly for CAW entrance music.
I guess I'll just continue to be salty until we get any word on improvements to career mode or CAW

They also posted a video of what one can only assume is an alternate entrance for Finn Blor in Demon mode from NXT Takeover: Dallas...
That's cool and all, but it remains to be seen how much actual "new" stuff we'll be getting. This video of a side-by-side of Brock
Lesnar's entrance from 2K's 16 and 17 shows that the differences appear to be very minimal...
Only thing I was able to notice is that the Brock's body model is a little more on point, and I don't know if his facemap has been updated
at all or if they're just programming it to do less "acting" but it looks better. Most notable change is the Totino's Pizza Rolls
banners in the arena being swapped out for Snickers.
It's also kind of worth noting, for me at least, how troubling it is to see not only how out-of-date the roster is in some respects (Los
Matadores FFS) but how old the promotional imagery is that they're using to promote it. Take this picture of Heath Slater for instance:

WWE 2K17s Executive Producer, Mark Little released a blog post this past Friday detailing some of
the major additions (and subtractions) to WWE 2K17 this year.
I suppose the biggest bit of news to come from this is that for the first time in several years there won't be a Showcase mode. I've seen
some folks lamenting this online, but personally I could care less so long as this means there is going to be more attention paid to the Universe and
Career modes. I never got into the Showcase modes as my interest never laid in recreating classic moments as much as it did in going through
Career mode with a CAW. Since the Showcase modes were introduced the Career modes have suffered greatly with each successive year. Here's hoping
that changes this year.
Other big news is the return of several long missing features, such as backstage and crowd brawls, and the Highlight Reel mode where you can create
your own Titan-Trons. Doubtful if we'll be able to do a Red Arrow off the top of the arena or off of an airborne helicopters skids al
Smackdown! Here Comes The Pain...
Focusing on more changes, IGN went a little more in-depth this
morning:WWE 2K17: The 6 Biggest Changes So Far
quote:Ladder Match Overhaul
In real life, a ladder match means high-impact, high-altitude spots that get the crowd out of their seats. In wrestling games, ladder matches mean a
lot of fussing over how to place your ladder properly, and a lot of clunky looking interactions. No more.
In WWE 2K17, the ladder can only be set up in five specific locations: in front of each set of ropes, and in the center of the ring. Just get close to
one, press the right button, and it gets set up properly every time. No more setting it up and climbing to the top, only to find you were an inch too
far to the left.
On top of that, you can set a ladder up as a bridge from the apron to the outside barrier, opening up lots of new opportunities. I personally get arm
dragged from the inside of the ring to the outside through a ladder before I could do anything more creative, but the possibilities are totally
there.
This sounds promising. While I'm sure you'll still be able to prop the ladder in the corner and lay it on the ground for grapples,
I'd like to see them focus more on recreating the exotic ladder setups you see these days.
quote:The Roll-Out
Fussy, awkward ladder interactions aside, ladder matches also suffer the same problem that all multi-person matches do: its a beginning-to-end
free-for-all. Thats finally been fixed with the new Roll-Out system.
When a member of a mutli-person match takes a big burst of damage, they will be forced to roll out to ringside, where theyll rest for a while.
Depending on how badly hurt they are, theyll be stuck there until theyve at least partially recovered. At that point, you have a choice: do I run
back in or do I rest until Im fully recovered? Coming in early might be the choice if a pinfall is about to be scored, or if you see a perfect
opportunity, but coming in fully rested gives you a temporary buff to run wild with.
In practice, this means you wont spend the entirety of a Triple Threat match bumbling around the ring with two combatants to worry about. Much like
in actual Triple Threats, it naturally becomes a sort of round robin, with dramatic moments where a resting wrestler will pop back into the ring at
the last second to prevent a pinfall. Finally, these matches have an ebb and flow that feels like the real thing, and provides a layer of
decision-making that just wasnt there previously.
I know they said they were dropping the Showcase mode this year, but this sounds like a Roman Reigns Showcase mode. In all seriousness though,
this sounds great. Especially for a game that tends to put you in A LOT of Triple Threat and Fatal 4-Way matches. 2K is doing a good job at recreating
the ebb and flow of televised wrestling matches, and features like this can only further enhance the experience.
quote:Backstage Brawls and Fighting In The Crowd
Finally, at long last, you can fight backstage or in the crowd again. You can either play a separate Backstage Brawl match, where you win by KO, or
you can transition from any No DQ style match right into a backstage scrap. There are three separate backstage areas, and a bevy of interactive
props to get nasty with. There are even a handful of backstage-only OMG! Moments to really put the hurt on your opponent with.
I didnt get to try a fight in the crowd myself sadly, but it can happen during any match type, regardless of rule set.
Welcome back completely new and groundbreaking feature!
quote:Taunting Matters
Taunting has mostly been a way to role-play your wrestler of choice more than anything, but now it has an actual gameplay purpose. Some taunts grant
you a temporary damage boost, while others increase the rate at which you gain momentum for a time. Finding chances to taunt is easier than ever too,
since you can now taunt in a much wider variety of locations. Doing the right taunt at the right time can really turn the tides!
This is kind of interesting. I dig the idea of having certain taunts giving you temporary buffers. It never made any sense to me that doing a really
involved taunt only got you a tiny little more of a boost than say doing a crotch chop. I'd love to see a mechanic where certain taunts cause
your opponent to react in certain ways depending on your Momentum Meter. For instance:
A full momentum meter could be used to initiate a taunt that would take away your opponents ability to block and/or make the window for blocking their
attacks much wider. This would work well with a fearful opponent after The Undertaker does his throat slit taunt. It could also be used for confusion
or revulsion after some Fandango gyrating or Goldust just being Goldust.
On the other side of the coin if your momentum is dangerously low, you could implement a Ric Flair or Eddie Guerrero begging off taunt which could
open up a button-tree that could allow you to go for an eye gouge, low blow, a roll-up, or even to pull a referee or valet in the way.
Now I'm getting my hopes up way too high. But while they're up there I might as well just say that while they're incorporating old
features from back in the day and trying to pass them off as new, I'd love to see the return of Create-A-Taunt.
quote:Major Reversals Play a Bigger Role
Major reversals were a new addition last year, but you seldom saw them because of how narrow their timing window was. This year, the timing is a bit
more forgiving, and it does a lot more for you when you land one. In addition to getting as bit of an offensive boost like before, a successful Major
Reversal locks out your opponents ability to perform reversals of their own.
This is a particularly big deal for creating an opportunity to get a clutch finishing move off without fear of having it turned around on you. More
than even last year, I really found myself holding onto a couple of reversals while taking a beating, choosing to wait for a Major Reversal
opportunity to really turn things around.
quote:Chain Wrestling and Submission Changes
Of all the neat new features weve seen from Yukes and Visual Concepts over the last few years, Chain Wrestling and the new submission system have
been the two most contentious. They arent going anywhere this year, but some changes have been made to help address the complaints some of the
fanbase has voiced.
Chain Wrestling is no longer automatically engaged at the start of a match. It will still happen if two characters try to grapple each other
simultaneously, or in other situations based on the wrestlers style and personality, but it is no longer the standard way to start a match. While I
dig the Chain Wrestling system, it being the guaranteed match opener didnt make a lot of sense, so Im glad it plays a smaller role.
As for the submission system, its been tuned so that your rotating pie wedges arent so slippery. It definitely feels like you have more control in
submission situations as a result. That said, some people still just want to mash buttons, and for them, an alternate submission system can be turned
on that lets them go back to the days of controller smashing and mashing. How that will work online with people wanting different styles is up in the
air, but its cool that 2K is giving everyone a chance to play the way they want.
First off, I'm glad that we'll have options now. I'm certainly happy to hear that the "pie wedges" won't be so unwieldy this
year. Try as I might, no matter how good I got at the game I could never consistently operate those wedges in matches and that led to a really uneven
experience where I was tapping dudes out and escaping submissions like a pro in some matches and getting completely school in others. Really, if
they'd just rein in the controls for the person GIVING the submission, I could overlook the panicky aspects of BEING IN the submission, if that
makes any sense.
So far things are looking good. Still waiting with baited breath to hear more about the CAW system (or 95% of what I enjoy about these games) but
it's starting to feel like 2K is getting a handle on the franchise and really seems to be listening to a lot of feedback from the fans.
I'm still pissed about Nakamura being a DLC exclusive on release though. Fuckers.

Thank God, I hated the submission system last year. If they want to keep that "catch me if you can" bit in, so be it, but it was damned near
impossible to get a submission against the AI because they always knew which way you were going and adjusted immediately.

I'll leave the roster additions to Jack because it's his gig and he's good at it (and also it's a lot of work to do to update
a list), but we're now a Bayley away from this roster being exactly what I was hoping it would be: most everyone from last year's roster
plus the DLC guys and a few missing pieces (AJ, the Dudleys, Nakamura, and three-fourths of the Horsewomen). I expect the Natural Disasters and
Stevie Ray are probably next week addition reveals, and probably Lex Luger and Haku, too. I somehow doubt Samoa Joe will be left off, and I'm
curious to see which other NXTer's make the list, too (they're high enough on Mojo that I'd expect him in, but I don't know if
Austin Aries or Bobby Roode are going to make it...probably not Roode, but Aries was in NXT around the supposed cut-off). I doubt The Club makes the
disc roster but DLC is certainly a possibility.
This roster, plus a few needed tweaks, and this is the ideal WWE video game roster.

Well, for what it's worth, Aries debuted in NXT before Nakamura did, and Roode made his first appearance (though I don't believe he was
officially signed until later) on the same night as Nak at Takerover: Dallas. Speaking of Roode, if he's in I am gonna need Gargano and Ciampa
as well. #GloriousBombs everywhere. The odds are slim for those two, though, because they didn't officially sign until, what? April? I guess
that's what CAWs are for. Just for the love of God, 2K, let me use custom theme music from my harddrive, or spotify, or youtube, or wherever for

Aries made his in-ring debut the same night as Nakamura, so he'd have made any time cutoff. Does he make the game? Eh, my hunch is no, unless
he's included in a DLC pack down the line.
New roster update! A lot of names in this one, several debuts, and a bunch of holdovers from last year's HOF DLC pack. The new list:

IGN's posting more videos. Here we have our first look at the backstage brawling feature...
Looks promising. Digging the more naturalistic camera angles. Feels more legit than the standard static wide-shot that was the norm in past games.
Here's a video showing off some of the new functionality in the Ladder Matches...

Along with the roster update we got another new entrance video, this time Goldberg's:
I can't remember but is this the first time they've included the backstage segment with the security guards? Not Earth-shattering by any
means, but a welcome little detail.
I'll continue to keep an eye out for any new videos that pop up and post 'em here. Still waiting with baited breath for information on the
CAW system and what types of changes we should expect from the Career mode. I really hope that with the omission of the Showcase Mode this year that
those functions get the proper attention that they deserve.

Thank God, I hated the submission system last year. If they want to keep that "catch me if you can" bit in, so be it, but it was damned near
impossible to get a submission against the AI because they always knew which way you were going and adjusted immediately.
I just started playing WWE 2k16 the other day and holy fuck, so much yes. I'm not going to lie. The submission system has me thinking about
quitting the game before i've barely played it.
