Yep. Next month's PPV main event is killed less than 24 hours after being set.

See you in 30 days, Roman!

Edit: Matte beat me by three minutes because I tried in vain to figure out how to link a tweet. Mods feel free to merge and/or delete.

His 30 day suspension would actually be up before Battleground.

Damn. Say what you will about their policies in the past but I guess this proves that WWE no longer fucks around about PEDs. I'm actually impressed.

+1 to RoBoo ReBoo for owning it and not giving the standard excuses.

Technically yeah, but he'd be eligible to return on the Thursday before the show, which means that literally his first appearance back on TV would be at the PPV. And with no opportunity to run any angle to write him out until then, how do you address him just disappearing? Unless Shane shows up and says "yeah, he's been suspended, but it ends right before Battleground, so he's still in the main event, you just won't see him before then," which would be all kinds of lame.

Also worth noting: he definitely will not be there for the draft show. Wonder how that'll be addressed on TV.

The 30 days is up before Battleground but not before all tv has been shot already.....although SD airs on Jul 21. Tonight's SD taping is going to be interesting to see how they play this. Beat down injury angle? They publicly acknowledged the suspension so it would seemingly be difficult to "injure" him when any person could easily find out what's really happening. Does he just disappear then?

I can't see them revisiting the triple threat match based on the suspension. WWE will find a way to make it work.

Dude gets pushed as the new face of the company, and then he pulls the rug out from under them. It will be interesting to see how he gets treated upon his return.

Similar situation happened with RVD after he beat Cena at ONS. RVD & Sabu got pulled over by a cop for a speeding. The copper found marijuana and Vicodin.

Vince approached RVD before ONS and said he was trusting him to carry the ball. RVD said that was the only regret he ever had with the company. That he let Vince down the one time he was finally entrusted with the "brass ring".

My memory starts to get hazy around that time frame. But I always felt like RVD was never at the same spot again. Sure, RVD was on the upper-card but not to be trusted again.

However, in the case of Rome, he is still Vince's pet project or erector set. The jaded sardonic side of me takes great pleasure in this and hopes this tones down the Roman push. But I feel with time and small penance Roman will be back to being one of the faces of the company and resume a strong push.

I said a while back somewhere on here that I thought Reigns was a lot stupider than he looked and this just proves it.

The worst that will happen when he returns will probably see him temporarily downgraded to getting beaten up by Sheamus or ADR for a while, maybe until SummerSlam has passed. Whatever his flaws Reigns doesn't seem as stupid or arrogant as Orton was/is to rack up multiple offenses, and keep getting away with it just because Vince/Hunter were completely in love with him, so hopefully this will be the only time it happens with him. Different times too now anyway and they can't let another repeat offender cycle happen like it did with Orton because their public image as a responsible corporate citizen is more important to them now than it was ten years ago.

You know, everyone says it's not supposed to make sense, like that's the whole point, dude. And I'm just saying, you know, that's like an excuse for lazy storytelling. Just don't sell me shite and tell me it's gold, all right? I might be stoned, but I'm not high. You know what I mean?

Yeah, Rob basically went back to being an upper midcarder after that. Got a bit of a push, occasionally filled a spot in multi-man main events, but was never a true title contender once he lost them. But that was a guy that, as you mentioned, Vince finally begrudgingly gave a shot after years of not wanting/trusting him in that spot.

Contrast that with Randy Orton, seemingly one of Vince's chosen ones since he arrived on the scene. Two strikes on him plus several more incidents that didn't technically count as strikes, and he's consistently remained at main event level. They went so far as to amend the policy to allow him a path to having one of his strikes erased right about the time they were getting ready to give him the belt again.

Anything's possible, but my hunch is Roman will be fine. At worst it'll probably push the Shield triple threat to Summerslam (which is what they really should've done in the first place, imo).

What really sucks about this is that it was the perfect time to go full heel for him and I think he would have been really fucking good at playing it too.

But then again there's silver linings here, now is the time to change his look and give him new music when he returns.

Yeah this could work out really well for him, and give Ambrose and Rollins the chance to tear it up for a while.

However it will be quite interesting to see how its handled. Frankly, unless they are going to announce the suspension on TV, I would rather they "do an Orton" and have him appear long enough to do a beatdown/injury angle rather than just change things for no apparent reason.

The odd thing about the tweet is that it implies this isn't some kind of accidentally taking a newly banned substance thing, but rather that he knew he was doing wrong and got caught. Which begs the question, what the fuck did he think he was doing?

Might not be PEDs. Pot is the more likely culprit.

Yeah, I think we all jump to conclusion of steroids with these suspensions, but it really could be something simple like pain killers, pot, etc.

According to Hornswoggle, he "violated" the wellness policy simply because he couldn't piss in the allotted time and thus, suspended. He asked that they re-word it so that people didn't think he was a drug user upon the news breaking, and they refused.

Although, I assume Roman would be more vocal and defiant if that was the case here, but still...this could be an extremely minor offense.

Or he took a substance and didn't look to make sure all the ingredients in it were legal. Easy mistake to make and it fits with Roman's tweet.

Before we all get too busy reading into things, and coloring it with our own biases I'm more curious about the timeline for all of this. Meltzer said on the Observer podcast that officials were aware of the violation prior to Money In The Bank but didn't say for sure how long before. A lot of folks are speculating that this is why he A)lost clean to Rollins and B)Why Ambrose cashed in. I can see A being legit but not necessarily B since they telegraphed Ambrose's cash-in during that Ambrose Asylum segment they did a week or two back. Is it possible that they knew that far back and held off on taking action? I'm not crying scandal in any way, I'm just curious because I seem to remember there being a precedent for holding off on suspensions so as not to completely derail the onscreen product. Back in the mid-to-late Aughts I feel like maybe it was Orton got suspended but they held off several weeks before the actual punishment was enacted so that they had all of their bases covered storyline-wise. I can't remember if the person in question was performing at lesser pay or what but I'm pretty sure I'm not just making this all up. Anybody recall what I'm talking about?
