First image of Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Clown released
I sometimes have issues with posting pics here, so if my copy and paste attempt doesn't work, you can find the original image here:
http://411mania.com/movies/check-out-the-first-photo-of-the-new-pennywise-from-the-it-remake/
I gotta say...not bad. It's maybe not quite up there in the creepiness department with the Tim Curry version, but otherwise not bad at all (plus
this is obviously just a small glimpse, so I'll reserve full judgment until we see the whole costume).
EDIT: You know, one of the things I do wish they had included was the fake red clown nose, because I think that added to the creepy look of the Tim
Curry version. With the red just painted on, I think it makes Skargsard look a little more "normal," though on the flipside I do give the creative
team props for going with their own vision.

This role is so appropiate for a guy who has been dubbed the teen magazine version of Steve Buscemi. Dude already tried being a vampire heartthrob,
now he's going to try to use his looks for something creepy.

F9, that was his brother Alexander "Tarzan True Blood" Skarsgrd. This is brother Bill, son of Stellan, a.k.a. Dr. Selvig from 'Thor'
and any number of fucked up Swedish films.
Otherwise, *siiiiigh* We'll see, I guess. I'm looking a bit more forward to this than that other Stevie K adaptation that can jam the Horn
of Eld right up the Crimson King's ass.
As far as I've read, the filmmakers are moving up the timeline of events a bit. The book and the original ABC miniseries took place when the
kids were growing up in the 50's and adults in the 80's. Now they'll be kid's growing up in the 80's and adults in
modern times. I dunno, there were themes integral to a 50's upbringing that King himself went through, plus all the monsters of that era that
Pennywise mimicked that may get lost in translation.
Even though the tv miniseries was only on ABC, it still had a decent aura of menace and dread that was undoubtedly because of Tim Curry's
performance. Hope this Skarsgrd kid's got the stuff. Still don't know why they can't get long form King shit on any of the cable
networks or Netflix where they belong. At least that way they'd have fighting chance of showing a bunch of pre-teens running a train on the only
female member of the group and maybe the hot hot Hockstetter/Bowers action. Lol, j/k, that gross, but don't blame me, Stephen King wrote that
shit, not me.
Yeah, maybe 'IT' wasn't the best choice for the first novel I ever read at age 12. Might explain some things.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about the switch from the 1950's to the 1980's for the childhood portion of the story. Like you said,
the 50's era was a very integral part to It and I feel like it just kind of loses something by fast-forwarding things 30 years.

I was really intrigued when they originally announced Will Poulter had been cast as Pennywise. He was just so goofy in We're The Millers, but
apparently blew Cary Fukunaga away during his audition for It, so I was looking forward to seeing what he was going to do with the role. As for
Skarsgard, I'm not familiar with any of his previous work, but am willing to give the guy a chance and the few quotes I've seen from him
so far about playing Pennywise makes it sound like he gets it (and knows better than to try and just recreate Tim Curry's performance).
Also, I'm still bummed about Fukunaga leaving It, because I loved the first season of True Detective.

Sounds like they are envisioning this as two movies; with this one focusing more on the past/kids part of the story, and another in the present to
round things out with the adults.
While I do think this is a story that's a bit too big to do as one movie, I think one of the strengths of the 1990 mini-series the flashbacking;
which if I remember right the book made use of some as well.
My lone complaint about the new Pennywise look is that he's a bit too menacing looking... Curry nailed it; there should be something almost
hokey looking about IT; to kind of get you to let your guard down.

This is exactly how Stephen King described him in the book. When Pennywise is introduced during George Denbrough's death, he says that George
thought he saw red eyes in the storm drain, but when he looked again, he saw Pennywise, with bright blue eyes, not evil and menacing. He sensed
something was wrong with the fact that a clown was in a storm drain, but Pennywise looked so friendly. Tim Curry captured this innocent looking evil
perfectly. This looks too evil. Hopefully this is just Pennywise when he's trying to scare the kids, not the Pennywise who is trying to lure the
children into trusting him.

Oh. I see. I had to look that up harderer 'cause I though Alexander was the vamp in the family. I didn't know such a thing as Hemlock
Grove existed. It's apparently another fine Eli Roth production? Yeah, no thanks to that shit and apologies to F9 for the non-correction
correction.
I know shared universes are all the rage nowadays, but as a long-time fan of King's early and mid-range works, I'm guessing these
properties, like 'It' and 'Gunslinger' and probably 'The 'Stand' are all in different studios and there
won't be any thematic or character crossovers like in the books. Oh well.

I sticked around till episode 6, Bill was probably the first major actor in forever to play a vampire as unsettling and something alien rather than a
superhero/supervillain like everybody else does and Famke Janssen looked milfstastic. But yeah, the show did suck.

Hmmm...not totally sure how I feel about that. I don't dislike it, but at the same time it's not really blowing me away with the
creepiness factor. With that said, I recommend reading the full article on EW's website here:
http://www.ew.com/article/2016/08/16/pennywise-costume-stephen-king-it-movie
It gives some nice insight on why they went with that particular look and the idea behind it. Also, it seems like the colors have been muted a bit in
that picture, as the article says there are splashes of color on the outfit.
And I can't tell if it's just the angle his head is tilted and the high hairline or if this version of Pennywise has an abnormally large
head.

I still think I prefer the disarming nature of Curry's Pennywise... something simplistic about that version that draws you in, subverts and
plays with that line between that innocent childhood joy at seeing a clown, the excitement of the circus they represent... and when you grow up a bit
and there's something unsettling about clowns (especially after dark as they say)... For Curry the clown is bait, then turns sinister...
I was a bit put off by this new Saarsgaard Pennywise (looks cool though)... Too sinister... it's all malevolence when it steps out of the
shadows; all boogeyman. I think that EW piece goes a long way towards changing my opinion... My worry is that they were just going for cool,
marketable stock horror villain, but it's clear they are trying to build something... This Pennywise is still trying to bait kids with a
disarming image, but it's something very old so it's concepts are going to be very old and vaguely built upon... it's an old rusty
bear trap that doesn't understand what it's trying to emulate... something very alien about this incarnation (well, that's my take
on what they wrote up)... If that's the case, I dig that... it's a deliberate choice that it sounds like thought about.
... Well, we've got a year to dissect this, and even then it sounds like they are going to do a two-parter, so we'll have even more time
than that before the final verdict comes in. Honestly; it will be hard to improve upon the mini-series... you've almost got two entire sets of
(5-6?)characters to introduce and make the audience care about, so 2 hours would be too time condensed, and horror tends to be a bit more quick and
lean on the run time, so I don't think the studio would want a bloated 3 hour movie that they can run less showings of.
Meh... We've got "Cell" to bide our time with in the mean time.

Speaking of Cell, here's the first trailer for it.

that's like an excuse for lazy storytelling. Just don't sell me shite and tell me it's gold, all right? I might be stoned, but

Agreed. Upon first seeing the image, I was kind of scratching my head a little. But then when I read the EW article, it made it click and I thought
"ah okay, now the way he looks makes a lot more sense." So even if I don't find it as creepy as Curry's incarnation was (at least based
on this one image), I respect that the creative team of the new movie are going with their own concept and backstory for Pennywise.
I particularly like this quote from the article:
"Its all aimed at creating a subliminal suggestion of a creature with long, lanky limbs, a head and neck like a cephalothorax, and a bulbous,
arachnoid abdomen. But this creature is walking upright, and calling to you with a fistful of balloons."

I actually didn't mind Hemlock Grove. I needed to kill some time and the three seasons they produced did that. Besides, if you made it to the
end of season 2, you got to see them go up against the arch-enemy of the vampire race: the ancient order of acid-spitting, immortal, pretty much
responsible for all the bad stuff the Nazis did, not the greatest CGI, flying reptile people.
Though they also did have this weird habit of having a cliffhanger or two that just found itself inexplicably resolved in under a minute the next
season.

A new Spider-Man trailer yesterday and an It trailer today? What's coming tomorrow, The Last Jedi?!
Anyway, I think It is looking pretty good so far. That slideshow part was creepy (even if it wasn't in the book), the kid actors all look like
they'll be solid, and they showed us just the right amount of Pennywise. My only fear from the trailer is that the movie is going to rely too
heavily on jump scares, as lots of modern horror movies do, but hopefully that was more played up for the trailer.
Also, I can't believe it was almost nine months ago that I posted that first image of Pennywise. Time flies.

It looks like they've updated the kids part of the book to either the 70's or 80's, which fits as if they go on to do the adults
half of the book a more modern take would fit... the kids being in the 50's fit in the book as it was written in the 80's.
There's some good stuff in there, but the kid doing the header off the guard rail to start the trailer felt like they might be playing it for
comedy... such a weird thing to focus on but if that's the kind of decisions the director is making it gives me a bit of concern... (talk about
making mountains out of molehills).
Maybe its the way they cut the trailer, but it feels like a very run of the mill horror film... the shots of Pennywise, how he moves... I don't
know, if you took out the Stephen King and It references you could probably slap a Sinister 3 on there and not tell the difference... I know
it's just a teaser, so who knows how this new Pennywise will turn out, but Tim Curry's clown shoes are going to be hard to fill... just
the larger than life personality made the very evil turns that much darker... the hissing and popping out of stuff feels a bit like a stock horror
monster.
I hope I'm wrong... the era setting looks good, and from what I can see the kids all seem to look the part, but this trailer didn't fire
me up as much as I was hoping it would when I saw it had dropped.

Unlike that other misguided major King work adaptation, I am so feelin' this one. Even with the shift up from the 50's to the 80's,
tonally it seems they've got it right. So, so, so glad 'Stranger Things' came out before/right when this started filming and
