Oops, meant to post in this thread last week and then totally forgot. Anyhow, I loved the first Guardians and am sure the sequel will be great, but I
dunno...the newest trailer just isn't quite grabbing me by the balls for whatever reason.
With that said, any movie that features Kurt Russell automatically grows more awesome by 56.3%.

So has anyone seen this yet? I caught it last night and while it doesn't crack my MCU top five, I did enjoy it. I'd probably rank it at
about 7.5/10 territory, though it's one of those movies that I'd like to see a second time before giving my final score. I do have a few
nitpicks though, which are gonna get into SPOILER TERRITORY, so turn back now if you haven't seen the movie yet.
-I'm not totally sure how I feel about the "Peter Quill is the son of Ego the Living Planet" storyline. I kinda wish Peter's dad had
just been some swashbuckling space pirate (which Kurt Russell would have been perfect for), rather than a god-like being who wanted to
destroy/reassemble the entire universe. It just seemed too obvious that Ego wasn't going to be what he seemed, even for those who aren't
familiar with the comics. With that said, they did do a good job of answering all the questions brought up in the first movie about who Peter's
father was and why he was taken from Earth, even if it does make his backstory dark as fuck.
-Where was Thanos? GOTG has probably the strongest ties to him in the MCU thus far, so I was bummed to see that he didn't show up in some
capacity. I have read that Thor: Ragnarok is going to serve as a setup for Infinity War, but just feel like they missed out on an opportunity to show
Thanos doing villain-y shit in preparation for what's going to be the mother of all MCU movies next year (though based on how GOTG 2 ended,
Nebula is probably going to be his first victim, yes?).
-Speaking of Thanos, I kinda feel like Marvel is undermining him a bit with the omnipotent god-like villains that have appeared recently in Doctor
Strange and GOTG 2. I mean hell, Ego really upped the ante by trying to take over the universe, so Thanos won't even have the distinction of
being the first MCU villain to go that big.
-The humor. I know that GOTG is easily the most humorous of all the MCU movies, but it felt like they couldn't go more than five minutes without
a "you're a douchebag" joke. And stuff like Rocket and Yondu teleporting at warp speed and quite literally becoming cartoon characters, Peter
making a giant Pac-Man to combat Ego, and Ego becoming David Hasselhoff just felt a little too over the top for me, even for the MCU's silliest
franchise. Your opinion may vary though.

I really, really liked it. Maybe more then the first one.
I've come to terms with the fact that the stories Marvel Studios tell is going to be quite different then the stories Marvel Comics has told.
The X-Men differences have bugged the shit out of me because they have altered the origin stories so much, but I've had no such problem with the
Marvel/Disney side, because the origin stories have been pretty close to the original source material. This is a reason I kind of liked the Ultimate
universes when it started.
I was never a huge fan of GOTG in the Marvel Comics universe, even though I have the first issue for some blizzare reason. I think that's why
I'm less bothered by the changes they made in the movie version. And, I think James Gunn is brilliant. Super might be my favorite super hero
movie.

Regarding Pac-Man: Peter had made what seemed, at the time, a one-off about creating a huge Pac-Man. I can't remember why he was going to, as it
just seemed like a throwaway bit that didn't matter. Then, when it showed up in the battle, it just fit. And the 5-10 second Hasselhoff piece
was funny enough.

I liked it okay, I liked the first one better, I think this one got a little bogged down with the daddy/family issues, I think it would be in the
bottom half of the MCU movies, not that is necessarily a bad thing.

I think they had to go big after the reveal that his father was something that the Nova Corps have never seen before, I think that negated the whole
space pirate, plus being able to handle the infinity stone meant it would have to be a god-like parentage. The reveal that he gave the mom cancer was
a big shock though.

I was not surprised about the lack of Thanos, Gunn stated up front that this movie would not be connected into the Infinity Wars storyline.

I didn't mind the humor, Drax definitely got the best lines in the movie this time, and Bautista did a great job. If anything I think they
could have scaled back the baby Groot scene time, but again your opinion may vary.

I loved the movie, was entertained end to end, and my only nitpick is that it's over and I have to wait a long time for more.
I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was great in that format. Having only seen the movie once, I can't compare it to normal 3D or just normal movie,
but there was plenty of fun visualization-y stuff to make me have zero regrets about spending a few extra dollars. Plus, and I didn't know
this beforehand, this IMAX theater I went to does reserved seating, so I was able to pick my seats in advance online and not have to worry about
getting there early to get good seats.
In summary, yay movie!

The music video for the movie just dropped and it is great.
