OOfficial Discussion Thread for: SmackDown (May 23, 2017)

Tonight on SmackDown: the Jinder Mahal Era is in full swing and never in history has the WWE Universe been as amazed and electrified by a PPV outcome as they were when the Maharajah beat Randy Orton to become the new WWE Champion!!!

Or, you know?, more or less the complete opposite of that... but it's not stopping WWE from promoting Jinder's huge in-ring celebration as the opening segment of tonight's show... I would not expect the segment to stay Orton-free for long....

Much more promisingly, there's no way in hell that AJ Styles and Kevin Owens are done with each other after the unsatisfying count-out conclusion to their match on Sunday... while AJ will no doubt have to jump though some hoops to get a second US Title shot, myriad situations where Owens is not forced to defend his title can take place immediately.... there is talk that for tonight, AJ/Owens will form a Voltron with another Backlash rematch, resulting in a Styles/Nakamura vs. Owens/Ziggler match...

While that's a rumored match, WWE has already confirmed that Charlotte and Becky Lynch will be taking on Natalya and Carmella in a semi-rematch from Sunday... it seemed like all roads were leading to Carmella getting the #1 Contender spot for Naomi's title (she's got a pair of wins over Naomi), but the longer they run with the faction warfare, and the not-so-subtle undertones of Charlotte wanting next shot as soon as they settle business with the Welcoming Committee, the more I think something else might be up...

It'll be a shame if Breezango fade into the background, but it sure as hell feels like it's about time for the New Day to show up and demand that the Usos relinquish the tag titles...

The rest: there's nothing especially pressing left on the undercard, so guys like Zayn, Corbin, Harper, Rowan, Dillenger, and English are all available moving pieces to plug into rematches or add-ons to make a tag match or to try something fresh... Corbin/Harper successfully executed a Hossfest a while back, so trying to do something more with them wouldn't be terrible, I guess (except for the fact that it's another feud that Corbin will win, and somebody I actually like will lose)... and SD sort of dropped the whole Pouting Rusev thing that was supposed to play out last week, but maybe now that we're past the PPV, we'll go about starting the story where he demands star treatment, or else he is walking out...

Lastly, we are promised some sort of "major announcement" from Commish Shane McMahon that pertains to the Money in the Bank PPV in June.... the suspicion is that it could be the introduction of a Women's MitB Match joining the men's (see previous comment about something being up with the Women's Division booking)....

That is all. Yes, ALL. The 205 Live portion of these threads never took off, so I hereby suspend it. I suspect most of us treat it alot like TNA, and when you're all wrestling'd out, it's first on the chopping block. And UK Special + NXT + PPV + RAW + SD = Wrestling'd The Fuck Out, so ain't no way this is the week the 205 discussion hits high gear.

End communication....

The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

I always get a little sad when I'm reminded of how we don't have Eddie anymore. He was so many kinds of awesome. If I had a time machine that would only work on wrestling things, and could use it only twice before it exploded? I'd save Eddie from himself, and Owen from that incident.

1) Whatever the do wrong some times they make up for in entrance themes these days. Some of them are so good they should be in Hollywood scoring movies.

2) Work some more with Corbin and try to keep the fire on Dolph lit and those guys in the ring right now are the basis for one h*ck of a good new Smackdown Six.

I would watch an anime with Nakamura's theme as its opener, and I'm not even that kind of nerd. That song is so frigging awesome.

Holy crap! Nak left his mouthpiece backstage!

Either creative couldn't be bothered to come up with a design for these plates, or someone vetoed the plan to have them simply be a turban.

Pad was typing with Nakamura's mouthpiece in his mouth, maybe..

eta: Heh. I always wondered what they'd do with those sideplates if they ever had somebody without a "logo" win the title. And Now We Know..... THE REST OF THE STORY.

Interesting face tag team juxtaposition. One is the greatest women's wrassler in a generation and Becky is also there as well.

ETA: Lol at Tom Whichever the Fuck saying, "N-n-n-no, C-C-Corbin!" That's hot, hot, HOT!

I thought Harry TomDick went crazy earlier. When they did the commercial break during the wimmins match, he was screaming about how 'THIS MATCH WILL STAY ON YOUR SCREEN DURING THE BREAK' and then we just got full-screen commercials as usual here in Canuckistan.

Thanks to my internet friend in the USA, I discovered he meant they were doing that side-by-side screen commercial thing.

Like when all the white rappers types were going around trying to sound street and saying things like "that was bull-isht!". Like the government or an insurance company's final decision it's not supposed to make any sense.

At this point, it seems like an easy choice to give Nakamura the win in any tag matches he's in for the foreseeable future. Screw everyone else's theme!

You did it, Nibbles. Now chew through my ball sack.

I think Nakamura needs a mouth piece...... I would have paired him with Paul Heyman. Heyman didn't even have to be heel for it, just a advocate and keep him with Brock. Everything could have been the same, Heyman could have talked for him for a year or so, and Heyman could have just said something of the effect that he sees the new next big thing and when your ready Heyman could have to choose between Nakamura and Lesnar.
