OOfficial Discussion Thread for: SmackDown (October 10, 2017)

Tonight on SmackDown: it's time to pick up the pieces after Sunday's Hell in a Cell PPV, and that primarily means two things:

(1) A big interview segment in which Kevin Owens gloats about murderizing Shane McMahon and in which Sami Zayn will have to explain his role in all of it; and

(2) AJ Styles is invoking his rematch clause, and will face Baron Corbin for the US Title in tonight's main event.

I guess we could probably also quip that, based on the events of Sunday night, we will also see (3) the mind-bending irrelevance of the WWE Title... it's bad enough that nobody cares about the champion, but this has been going on so long that I now no longer care who they drudge up to be a challenger (and only partly because, if you look up and down the roster, it's entirely possible that Mojo Rawley is next in line for a shot based on the Hype Bros breaking up and the fact that Mojo and Mahal have "history" from earlier this year)..... wheeee????

From the sound of things, the "Why, Sami, Why?" promo will firmly establish this as a heel turn and a full-on partnership with Owens... meantime, the US Title rematch happening so soon suggests they want to get AJ out of the US picture and onto something fresh.... it just so happens that Owens/Zayn vs. Shane/AJ would be all kinds of fascinating, so that's kind of what I'm eyeballing as the overall big picture takeaway for tonight...

I don't see how the Usos and the New Day can top Sunday's ultra-violent Cell Match, but per tradition, the New Day should still get an obligatory rematch with the new champs.... just not for a while, cuz all four of those guys deserve the night off... well, maybe not "off," but at most, the Usos can keep it very low impact for a big celebratory promo...

Natalya is still the Women's Champ, but there's almost certainly gonna be a rematch there, too, against Charlotte.... Nattie got herself intentionally disqualified, and that's how you extend a feud, not finish it... as always, we can't forget about Carmellsworth and MitB, either...

Seems like there will be more between Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler.... while Roode got the victory on Sunday, he did it with a handful of tights, and then suffered a post-match beatdown from Dolph, so.... yeah, not done yet...

Oh, and maybe probably hopefully kind of The Fashion Files actually moves story forward, as Sunday's little teaser indicates that Breezango are taking us on another Themed Story Arc... after successful riffs on "The X-Files" and "Twin Peaks," tonight begins their take on "Pulp Fiction"...

That is all. End communication....

The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

If Usos vs New Day is done I hope the cycle of tv time only going to tag teams in the title chase doesn't fuck New Day. They need to be a weekly fixture.

If they're out of Title hunt, say fuck it and have them feud against Jinder. The possibility of a rift(which I hope never happens) and the sheer bizareness of those 3 around the Main Title could be the only thing that makes a Jinder program tolerable.

Kofi as WWE Champion with New Day on his side and being buffers to the Singh Brothers delights me.

I look forward to Big E throwing the Singhs around like rag dolls.

I'm sorry but the Usos butching it up just reminds me of this:

I too also would delight in New Day kinda becoming SD's version of the Shield with Big E leading the charge as champ.

ETA: Not for nothin' that was a pretty sharp promo by the Usos.

The shot at Mojo got a good laugh out of me, but I fucking hate Mojo.

Yeah that was kind of a nasty zinger. I wish they'd let all the wrasslers, at least the ones that do that kind of stuff well, throw verbal haymakers like that more often.

It's easy not to care about some Michael Rappaport wannabe whose name is, ugh, "Mojo".

In other news, this is still arousing.......

Usos may not be heels, may not be faces, but they do seem to be over.

ETA: Corbin needs to go either the Chavo route, the Christian route, or the cue ball route. That skullet is fucking ridiculous.

It involves a McMahon, so it has to be muted. Can't call him a son of a bitch that doesn't care about anything but himself or try to draw real heat or anything like that.

The McMahons (and HHH as a step-McMahon) continue to be death for the program since 2002.

I'd forgotten that Smackdown was in town, but it explains a lot!

Woke up this morning with pains around the kidney region (turned out to just be strained muscles, thank god!) that lasted most of the day.

Pulled over by the cops on my way to work because the little light on my plate was out and ended up 30mins late to work.

Caught hell from the boss even though i had the Fixit Ticket in my hand!

Then come to find out that Randy Orton is but a mere 2 miles away... Ah well....time to plot some more!

Bludgeon Brothers? Looked like an out-take from Year One with Jack Black.

....So tell us how you REALLY feel?

But, besides THAT, did AJ Styles get 'demoted' from the Main Event picture to... put Boring Carbomb over?

I think it's more like freeing AJ from the midcard to go back up to the main event. Yeah, he lost to Corbin, but it was a pretty decent match and he took some big bumps to make Baron's win believable.

I presume AJ's next agenda will be Jinder, barring him getting tangled up in any potential Team Shane vs. Team Zowens shenanigans.

Yeah, that was really weird. His reaction on the ppv was why I wasn't sold on the heel turn and was more sold on it being a "saving my friend from wayback from dying". Then he's all smiles and comes out mugging for the camera only to say (another thing that I thought he might have done) the "you taught me to take what I wanted" thing. It just seemed off. Very un-heel like until the explanation.

Bludgeon Brothers. Ugh.

I like Rowan, and I really like Harper. I've liked them as a tag team. And I really liked Harper as a singles wrestler, but WWE really dropped the ball on him after his singles push earlier in the year. They've already been a tag team twice, and the last time they broke up, they feuded with each other. I'm guessing they're not going to give us any reason that they got back together and gave themselves a dumb name.

If they really have to put them back together, just be Luke Harper and Erick Rowan like before (although I suppose they were technically "The Wyatt Family"). This just reminds me of repackaging Primo and Epico as "The Shining Stars". Meh.

You know it's bad when even with a dark backdrop you can tell that their mallets were made out of the same foam as Nerf swords.
