TLC Shakeup

https://twitter.com/WWE/status/921461747130740736

Kurt Angle replaces Roman Reigns and AJ vs. Finn because of medical issues. Well this is a big shakeup for the event.

If this happens that is pretty crazy. Putting AJ in there makes a ton of sense, but I'm not sure about wasting Angle's return with no build up. They couldn't find someone else instead? Where is Fozzy touring this weekend?

I hope all the guys that are sick get well soon, but these two changes actually make me more excited for the show. Balor vs Styles?? Heck yeah!

And although, I wish there'd have been a better buildup for Angle's in-ring return, being in a big multi-person tag match is probably the best way to bring him back after a significant time out of the ring.

still wondering if this has anything to do with Kevin Owens leaving the South American tour for "personal reasons".

I am not a doctor, nor an insider, merely an idjit with a question: Maybe it's a minor 'outbreak' of Meningitis? From what I can read on the wiki, there are various possible "vectors" (I don't know if I used that right, but I felt like sounding sciencey) for the disease to use (viral, fungal, etc), so..

However, I only took tenth grade biology, and I'm easily grossed out, so somebody who knows better could possibly address this better than I.

eta: From the story --
Due to medical issues impacting two WWE Superstars scheduled to appear at WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs, streaming live on WWE Network this Sunday, the special event will now feature... So in these specific cases, it seems like basic medical privacy (so & so is sick, that's all we need to know really) is being observed. I would give the other absent performers the benefit of the same, until some people start returning and others don't. I probably could delete my original question, but I'll leave it there for shiggles and gits.

Hopefully Kurt is paying ample compensation to Daniel Bryan and SmackDown for borrowing one of his wrestlers for the night.

take it for what it's worth, Keller's story says Reign's sickness could be different than Bray's. If it is a 60 day sickness, bye bye Roman's push.

uh holy shit. That was my reaction when I saw the news. It is kinda weird that this is how Angle is brought back, but holy shit Kurt Angle is back.

AJ and Finn should be cool but I was wanting the goofball bullshit of Bray vs Finn. Or should I say Sister Abigal vs the Demon

Isn't this about the most "Kurt Angle" way for Angle to return, in a freakin' TLC match? I'll be waiting for him to back-suplex someone off a ladder through a table and finally manage to paralyze himself in the process.

Meningitis is like the anti-Elevated Liver Enzymes, in that it actually made the PPV card better.

The reports state that while it's not known if Roman had the same illness, he was pulled for the same precautionary reasons Bray was.

I would guess it isn't a wellness since they already pulled him and haven't announced a wellness violation. The reason they would delay the announcement(to keep him in the natch and then announce it afterwards) doesn't exist.

EDIT: Thinking it through further, if it was a wellness fail it would be the perfect time to announce it while fans are getting hyped about Kurt and AJ.

AJ vs. Finn is a tad odd but certainly doable. It'll make for a nice match that hopefully they can build something out of even after they go back to their respective brands. If Finn's really gonna tangle with Brock then Vince quick better wire him 100K to get him to show up for five minutes to smack those two around a bit.

The Kurt thing is damn peculiar especially with no build-up. I hoped they would do something more along the lines of what Sami and Kevin did last week taunting Bryan knowing he couldn't hit back. It would have been cool for some Grade A Dickbag like Miz trying the same shit to have Kurt say, "I may be retired but no one said I couldn't physically wrassle anymore, Mike" right before suplexing the life outta him.

As much as I want to see Kurt in-ring it just makes me all kinds of nervous considering it won't just be a straight up one-on-one match. I'm sure he's as in shape as one can expect and has been knocking the ring rust off practicing all the while, but it's Kurt. He tends to do nutty stuff in the ring. Lotta potentially painful moving parts in a TLC match. But, if Kurt was pretty close to coming back anyway...whatevs I guess, glad to have it. If anything it will at least necessarily force an immediate change to his GM status storyline-wise.

I actually wouldn't mind if they were a little bait-and-switchy and Kurt took an early powder and was replaced by someone like Jason Jordan or Joe. Yeah, JJ's not a Shield reunion at a PPV, but Reigns missing this one won't sink people's desire to see it eventually. Joe would probably be a perfect fit as a temporary ally while bringing an intensity JJ doesn't have just yet.

See, this is where me having no context to this stuff makes things odd because I just assumed the announcement meant AJ Styles is Sister Abigail.

No way Angle actually "wrestles" a whole lot... but his issues with Miz make him a halfway decent storyline fit, and it makes Jordan an even better fit to run in for back-up/semi-bait-and-switch/triple-swerve. Joe's still an obvious wild card given the Mystery Man, too, but now what if Jordan makes the "obvious" save of his dad, only to reveal he was Team Miz all along, or something like that? I'm intrigued, to say the least. I get that some paying fans who care a lot about the Shield won't be. But I am.

Styles vs. Balor? Ummmm, all of a sudden TLC actually has an undercard! Now, it's a TWO Trick Pony~!!! Do they get a gimmick, too? Ladders, please!

But as to what's causing all this, man, I dunno, but it's.... damned peculiar. [/admiralkirk]

Kidding aside, I'd like to have seen how that conversation went.

Bryan: Uh, hey guys, it says here on the call sheet that next week I'm supposed to go out and talk about how well A.J. did in his match against Finn at TLC?

Vince: Well yeah, Pal, he's taking over Windham's spot since he got sick.

Bryan: Huh, okay cool I guess, I'll just talk about how proud we are about how he did representing Smackdown. I guess Kurt will do the same over on his end as the RAW GM. Kind of a mutual respect thing between brands?

Vince: Goddamnit, Kurt will be doing what? Why doesn't anybody tell me these things! Dunn, why the fuck is Kurt praising A.J. and Finn when he's supposed to be selling his injuries from his match?

Bryan: I...I'm sorry, did you say "match"?

Vince: What?

Bryan: What?

ETA: Back in Seriousville, I wonder if this was all sort of what they were headed for anyway? Not the illness parts, but in the run up to Survivor Series, this PPV seems like the final warm-up before the team-ups next month. The stacked odds of Miz/Cesaro/Sheamus/Braun/Kane vs. just the Shield lends itself to the latter group conceding that they need more guys. Miz gets lippy with Kurt over their (I'm presuming) win and one thing leads to another oh it's true I'm back at SS or somesuch.

Also, with Bray, if there is an actual Sister Abigail waiting in the wings as a surprise, I wonder if now's when they spring that one on us too. Mayhap Corbin comes out to fuck with A.J. causing a DQ and they head to the back. Finn's still out there lauding him as a competitor when the lights go all wonky and POOF! finally, there she is in the middle of the ring. And if she ends up being someone like Sage Beckett she can Brock toss Finn into the upper rafters. Or, y'know, have Anderson and Gallows crash the party for a quickie Bullet Club reunion.

Dunno, but I'm infinitely more interested in this PPV now than I was a few hours ago.
